Washington Metropolitan High School

Frequently Asked Questions for Staff

How is DCPS prioritizing the Washington Metropolitan staff during the hiring process for the
upcoming SY2020-2021?
To support and prioritize current Washington Metropolitan High School (Wash Met) staff, all reduced
staff will be automatically placed into the approved pool for their respective positions and will be given
information regarding hiring events during the spring and summer. Additionally, reduced staff will be
informed of their status well before new vacancies for SY20-21 are available at the beginning of April
2020. This will provide them with an advantage over reduced staff from other schools, who will not be
informed of their status until mid-May.

What are the end dates for 10-month, 11-month, and 12-month employees?
The last day to report to work are as follows:
• 10-month employees: June 22, 2020
• 11-month employees: June 29, 2020
• 12-month employees: August 7, 2020

Note: The response to this question has been updated since the November 2019 FAQ.

How long will benefits last?

Benefits will last 31 days from the date of separation. If the individual wishes to elect Total Continuation
of Coverage (TCC), it must be elected within 60 days from the date of separation.

When and where will the resume workshop DCPS committed to be?
The Recruitment and Selection and Staffing teams will attend the Monday, January 27, 2020, resume
workshop in the afternoon at Wash Met.

What are the details on the DCPS hiring fairs?

DCPS will hold three hiring events, with the first event taking place in April. Specific dates, times and
locations will be forthcoming from the Recruitment and Selection team.

I’m interested in teaching at another DCPS Opportunity Academy. Will there be an event for current
Wash Met staff to meet the other Opportunity Academy principals?
School leaders from various DCPS schools will be available for interviews at each of DCPS’ hiring fairs.
Additionally, new vacancies for SY20-21 will be posted on the first week of April. Prospective candidates
are encouraged to review the list of vacancies and may reach out to schools directly.

If I’m interested in applying to another type of job within DCPS, where should I go?
All DCPS applications must be submitted online. The Teacher application for SY20-21 is already available
for submission, and applications for all other positions will be made available in the spring. Applications
for school-based positions can be submitted using the following link: https://dcps.secure.force.com/

How can I learn about vacancies at other DCPS schools?
Once school budgets are finalized in the spring, we will publish an official vacancy list online and share
with Washington Metropolitan High School staff. School-based vacancies are also available year-round
through Canvas.

What does the closure process look like for contracted employees (food service employees and school
security personnel)?
