Modern Confectionery is a New Zealand owned and operated company based in


Auckland since 1946. Modern confectionery is well known manufacturer of boiled
candies, confectionery bars, marshmallow confectionery and various well
known chocolate products. Modern’s Confectionery is serving communities with
traditional and unique New Zealand flavours. These are prepared using special recipes
and ingredients to provide exclusive taste and appearance.

Aims and Objectives:

We aim to produce high quality products at the most competitive prices and serve you
with excellence. To ensure we meet your needs we provide our products in various
packaging and sizes.

Business priorities:

This company gives better image to their customers and gets good name and fame.
Following are the main aims of the company in which they put efforts.

Health and safety plan and processes

H and S is an Act of parliament that defines that fundamental structure and authority
for the encourage, regulation and enforcement of workplace health, safety and
welfare. This act defines the duties of all facilities like employees ,employer, persons
in control of work premises those who manage, maintain them and persons in general.

Health and safety plans and procedures are design for the safety of employees health
and his or her working ability.

Merits of health and safety plans


1.Maintain the health, safety and welfare of person at work

2.Protect the persons at work. against risks to health and safety arising out of or in
connection with the activities of persons at work.

3.Safety clothes for the workers and safety equipments to avoid accidents.

their employees at work their organizations and arrangements for putting the
policy into practice. The policy must be brought into the notice of all
employees and be revised whenever necessary.

Main points of Health and Safety under legal requirements are :

Legislation: Action with respect to act, bills and resolution or similar items by
congress, a state legislature, local governing body, public referendum or
constitutional amendment. Legislation does not include acts or rulings of executive,
judicial or administrative bodies.

Objectives of legislation:

• To prevent employee’s harm, impose specific duties.


• A better state of health and safety.
• Provide approval of codes of practice and make regulations relating to
hazards.

Codes of Practice: IN codes of practice there are responsibilities are set for the
employees in the regulation of worker. So there are the main points of codes of practice:

• Availability of safety equipments, garments and protective devices and supervise


their use.
• Give training and instructions to enable employees to use the facilities safely and
efficiently.
• Maintain health and safety conditions, with the legal requirements defining the
minimum.
• To impress a duty of care on all members.
• Accident Prevention and Safe Working Practices.
• To maintain a constant and continuing interest in H&S matters .
• Obey the rules and regulations of the organization.

Duties of employers: following are the duties of an employer under health and safety act

• Tp provide good environment and safe working conditions


• Proper use, handling, storage, and transport of substances
• Give instructions and training to ensure that the employees carry out their job
safely
• Give opportunities to employees to be involved in the development of procedures
for managing safety hazards and dealing with emergency.
• Hazard management eliminate ,isolate or minimize the hazard from the working
place.
• Ensure that all safety clothing are used properly by the employee.

Duties of employee:

• the employee’s duty is to protect himself and others around him from the
hazards.
• They should give co operation to their seniors and subordinates.
• They can suggest ways to eliminate ,isolate or minimize the hazards from
workplace.
• They should join risk identification and risk management process.

Duties of other persons:

• The don’t cost harm to themselves and others.


• They should follow the sign board and some other specific directions while
entering in place of work.
• Don’t enter in premises where heavy machinery is working without the
permission of an authorized staff member.
• Role of central and local government agencies: other legislation that applies to
the workplace are either Acts passes by the parliament or by local government
bodies like: smoke free environment Act 1990, noise control regulation, fire
safety regulation .the basic purpose of this organization is to improve its image
and helpful for nation also. .local government regulations are looking for the
good running of the company as they are considering and obey the health and
safety rules.

Legal liability: if any company disobey the rules of health and safety then the
government can cancel their license or they will have to pay the fine as a legal penalty. so
for the punishment a company have to pay the $50000.

Recent example of company who has pay the fine for legal penalty For example, the
DOJ has made public its intention to conduct a criminal .... In April 2007, Baker Hughes agreed

Isolate and remove hazards:

Isolation of the hazards means to reduce the risks and try to remove them by the
following ways:
• Warning signs must be drawn near the dangerous areas.
• Safety alarms are placed at all work places.
• Machines give beep sound when creates any problem.
• Removal of hazardous chemical and toxic substances from public contact.
• Safety wears like shoes, clothes and gloves should be provided to reduce the
accidents.

Safety and protection equipment and processes: Protective equipment refers to


protective clothing, like jackets, helmets, goggles and other garments designed to protect
the wearer’s body from injury by blunt impacts ,electrical hazards ,heat, chemicals ,and
infection ,for job-related occupational safety and health purposes and in sports ,martial
arts, combat ,etc.

employees used the fire extinguisher to control the fire .Moreover ,in case of Injuries
report supervisors and use first aid and call 111 for emergency etc.

Prevention and precautions: The main stress in H&S is given on prevention and
precautions of accidents to provide safer environment to the employees .The company
provides the following procedures to inform the employees about safety preventions as;
• Follow the safety rules and the signs.
• Wear safety garments
• .Important information about the natural hazards should be displayed at all the
important places in the company.
• Have effective hazards management techniques.

First Aid: Modern’s confectionary provides the initial care to its employees in case of
any sickness and injury. First Aid training is given to all the workers at all levels .A
periodic check of medicine contained in the first aid kit is done frequently.

Promotion of Health and Safety: This company has well defined policies regarding
H&S, hazard management procedures and issues safety equipments to employees .It also
arrange some programmes for the promotion of H&S policies.
