Materials

COTTON THREAD FABRIC SILK THREAD

Cotton thread is compatible
with fabric made from yarn of
plant origin, such as cotton
and linen, and for rayon (made
from a plant substance),
because it has similar
shrinkage characteristics.
Fabric is cloth or other
material produced by weaving
together cotton, nylon, wool,
silk, or other threads. This
serves as canvas for
embroidery
Silk Thread has great elasticity
and strength combined with
fine diameter: the two types
are filament and spun silk

TOOLS
SMALL EMROIDERY Embroidery scissors are a special type of scissors used to cut sewing thread or
multiply embroidery thread.
SCISSORS

NEEDLE

Embroidery needles are chosen first by the weight or size of the thread being used,
not the type of fabric. An embroidery needle (also called a “crewel” needle) has a long
eye and a very sharp tip.

PINCUSHION

A pincushion (or pin cushion) is a small, stuffed cushion, typically 3–5 cm (1.2–

heads protruding to take hold of them easily, collect them, and keep them
organized

THIMBLE

A thimble is a small hard pitted cup worn for protection on the finger that pushes the
needle in sewing. Usually, thimbles with a closed top are used by dressmakers

Machine embroidery is an embroidery process whereby a sewing

machine or embroidery machine is used to create patterns on
textiles. It is used commercially in product branding, corporate
advertising, and uniform adornment. Hobbyists also machine
embroider for personal sewing and craft projects.
