General Instructions:
1. All questions are compulsory. There are 37 questions in all.
2. This question paper has four sections: Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D.
3. Section A contains twenty questions of one mark each, Section B contains seven
questions of two marks each, Section C contains seven questions of three marks each,
and Section D contains three questions of five marks each.
4. There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in two questions
of one mark each, two questions of two marks, one question of three marks and three
questions of five marks weightage. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such
questions.

21. A long straight wire of finite cross-section carrying steady current ‘I’. The current ‘I’ is
uniformly distributed across this cross-section of radius ‘a’. Calculate the magnetic field in
the region r < a and r > a.

22. Draw a circuit diagram used to compare the emfs of two primary cells . Write the formula
used. How can the sensitivity of a potentiometer be increased.
OR
Draw the circuit diagram which can be used to determine the resistance of a given wire by
Meter Bridge. Write the principle of Meter Bridge.

23. In the figure given below, light rays of blue, green, red wavelengths are incident on an
isosceles right angled prism. Explain with reason, which ray of light will be transmitted
through the face AC. The refractive index of the prism for red, green, blue light is 1.39,
1.424, and 1.476 respectively.

24. What is the electric field due infinite line of charge? What is the effect on electric field,
when charge density gets double and distance between point and line of charge is half.

25. Plot a graph between mass number and average binding energy per nucleon and write two
features of binding Energy curve.

28. The magnetic flux through a coil perpendicular to its plane is varying according to the
relation Φ = (5 t3 + 4 t2 + 2t -5) weber. Calculate the induced current through the coil at t = 2
s of the resistance of the coil is 5Ω.

29. In the figure, a long uniform potentiometer wire AB is having a constant potential
gradient along its length. The null points for the two primary cells of emf 𝜀1 and 𝜀2 connected
in the manner shown are obtained at a distance of 120 cm and 300cm from the end A. Find (i)
𝜀1 ⁄𝜀2 and (ii) position of null point for the cell 𝜀1 .

30. State Huygens’ principle. Prove the laws of reflection on the basis of wave theory.

31. Write the principle of transformer. Draw a labelled diagram and establish the following
relation for an ideal transformer.

32. Two Polaroid are placed at 900 to each other and the intensity of transmitted light is zero.
What will be the intensity of transmitted light when one more Polaroid is placed between the
two bisecting the angle between them? Take intensity of unpolarised light as I0.

33. With the help of circuit diagram, explain the working of half wave rectifier. Draw its
input and output wave forms.

OR

Draw energy band diagrams of N type and P type semiconductor indicating the Fermi levels.
Explain why N type or P type semiconductors are neutral?

34. If the frequency of incident radiation on a photocell is doubled for the same intensity,
what changes will you observe in (i) kinetic energy of photo electrons emitted (ii)
photoelectric current (iii) stopping potential? Justify your answer in each case.

SECTION-D
35. a). Derive the expression of electrostatic energy stored in the parallel plate capacitor?

b). A 4µF capacitor is charged by a 200V supply. The supply is then disconnected and
the charged capacitor is connected to another uncharged 2µF capacitor. How much
electrostatic energy of the first capacitor is lost in the process of attaining the steady
situation?

OR

a) State Gauss law. Using this law, obtain the expression for the electric field due to an
infinitely long straight conductor of linear charge density λ.
b) Two point charges 4 µC and +1 µC are separated by a distance of 2 m in air. Find the
point on the line-joining charges at which the net electric field of the system is zero.

36. a) Using Biot-Savart’s law, derive an expression for the magnetic field at the centre of a
circular coil of radius R, number of turns N, carrying current I.
b) As shown in figure, a cell is connected across two points A and B of a uniform circular
conductor. Prove that the magnetic field at its centre O will be zero.

a) Two straight long parallel conductors carry currents I 1 and I 2 in the same direction.
Deduce the expression for the force per unit length between them. Depict the pattern of
magnetic field lines around them.
b) Two long parallel wires carrying currents 8 A and 5 A in the same direction are separated
by a distance of 4 cm. Estimate the force on 10 cm length of one wire due to the other wire.

37. (a) Explain with reason, how the power of a diverging lens changes when (i) it is kept in a
medium of refractive index greater than that of the lens. (ii) incident red light is replaced by
violet light.
(b) Three lenses L1, L2, L3 each of focal length 30 cm are placed co-axially as shown in the
figure. An object is held at 60 cm from the optic centre of lens L1. The final real image is
formed at the focus of L3. Calculate the separation between (i) (L1 and L2) and (ii) (L2 and
L3).

OR
a) Deduce the expression, by drawing a suitable ray diagram, for the refractive index of a
triangular glass prism in terms of the angle of minimum deviation (D) and the angle of prism
b). Draw a plot showing the variation of the angle of deviation with the angle of incidence.
c) Calculate the value of the angle of incidence when a ray of light incident on one face of an
equilateral glass prism produces the emergent ray, which just grazes along the adjacent face.
Refractive index of the prism is √2.
