Introduction

Our business of choice is a local family-owned food venture named “Sir and Ma’am”. A stable
favorite among the locals, Sir and Ma’am has been around for quite a long time. With its good food
and homey ambiance, it has carved a place for itself in the hearts of the Silay people. But just like all
businesses, the road to the here and now was long and arduous. 5 years ago, due to complications,
they had to close down shop- temporarily though, as the owner wanted to continue the business, so
it was set up again, this time with the new name: “Sir and Ma’am”.

The business was established in 1962 as a simple eatery. Their initial capital was a personal
family loan during a time of hardships. It was originally just called “Sir” in commemoration to the
family member that kick started the venture. Their initial focus was the quality of food. It is owned
by the Torres family, and is now being managed by the three siblings of its founding owner. The
restaurant is located in Silay along the main highway near Silay Institute.

Their menu consists of mainly Filipino dishes. from Caldereta to Kinilaw, Boneless Bangus, and
more. They don’t seem to have any unique selling propositions. They are slightly stagnating in
competition, especially thanks to their location and general management model, which is very
inconsistent, but still works because of how close the rest of the staff is with the managers. We
chose this business because of the ease of access in communication with the owners, and its general
impact on the surrounding society since it is a rather popular and persistent venture.

SWOT Analysis

Strengths

Being located alongside the main highway of Silay is an excellent feat for the business, because
passersby can easily see them and is easily accessible for the customers.

Schools are a potential target market for the restaurant because being near schools can garner
more customers for the business, like students, teachers and parents.

There is camaraderie between management and staff flow of working operations are smooth
having little to no conflicts in the workplace. Conflicts are easily resolved.

Weakness

There’s no proper organizational structure for the restaurant having no people have no exact
positions or titles to the job they are doing.

The business has a lot of potential to be bigger; They could be further from where they are now
if only there was a more stable and focused management of the restaurant.

Opportunity

The business has a wide lot area, room for more cars, having more customers.
Menu is limited to set number of dishes a day, if they are willing to widen the menu, menu
variety could be increased.

If only they would consider hiring a permanent manager, the business could easily branch out
and be more successful than where they are now.

Threats

The restaurant’s main focus is food service, it could lag behind competitors when it comes to
innovation, for example other competitors do catering services, have bands perform at night and
etc.

The restaurant does not put it’s focus on the youth but rather is focused on the more mature
audience.
