1.

There is a disagreement with two students on how many planets are in the solar
system. Student A claims there are 8 planets and Student B claims there are 12
planets. What is some evidence to support each claim?
1. Answer: I that student A is thinking of the normal planets, but I don't know
how student be can be thinking of 12 planets.
2. Answer: I now know that student A is thinking they are right because
there are officially 8 planets in the solar system. I can also see how
student B is right because they are including the dwarf planets which is
13.
2. On which planet would you weigh the least? What is your evidence to prove
this?
1. Answer: I know that the planet I would weigh the least on would be the planet
that has the least gravity on it but I’m not sure about which planet that is.
2. Answer: I now know that Mars would be the planet you would weigh the
least on because even though Mercury has the least gravitational force,
Mars the least dense planet.
3. How does the mass of our planet compare to the other inner planets?
1. Answer: I have not learned this yet.
2. Answer: I now know that Earth has the biggest mass of the all the planets
because it is the most massive and the rest of the planets all have a mass
less than one.
4. Dr. Grumbles claims that it is colder during the winter because Earth is farther
from the sun. Provide evidence to prove him right or wrong?
1. Answer: I haven’t learned that yet.
2. Answer: At first, I thought that this statement was partly true because the
Earth does move around the sun. Now I know that distance does not
affect the seasons of Earth. They changed based on the location of the
area and where the sun is facing. Dr. Grumbles is incorrect.
5. How does the path of the sun in the sky change during seasons?
1. Answer: I haven’t learned that yet.
2. Answer: Now I know that in the summer the sun has a longer path so
there are more hours of sunlight. But in winter, the suns path is short so
the amount of daylight is limited.
6. How would seasons on Uranus be different from Earth?
1. Answer: I know that Uranus is farther from the Sun than the Earth but I’m not sure
about why that would be a major difference.
2. Answer: I used to think that Uranus was farther that the Sun. Now I know
that Uranus has an extreme summer for half a year and an extreme
winter for half a year. This happens because Uranus is approximately at a
90-degree angle.
