My name is Gina Keleher. I am a sophomore at Saint Xavier University. I plan on majoring in nursing and minor-
ing in psychology. I came into the school as an undecided major, but after thinking about it I finally decided that
I wanted to become a nurse to be able to help patients. I try my best at everything I do and I don’t give up, no
matter how hard something might be. I am a hard worker and try my best to get the best grades I can get in each
class. That’s about it!

Concept: This picture sends various messages to the viewer. One message is the sun is beginning to set
perfectly on the horizon of the lakes edge. It is revealing how calm and beautiful nature really is. This picture is also
showing that there are many different aspects to nature as well. As you can see there are rocks right before the lake
as well and then you see water and then the sun. All of them seem to run perfectly together and they create this
beautiful nature scene that I happened to catch with my camera. This picture can also send a mysterious message
in a way as well. The viewer may wonder what will happen once the sun actually sets or will the colors in the sky
change when the sun sets more. there are numerous messages that this picture may send to the viewer and that is
what makes this picture interesting. By changing the colors throughout the picture, I can make the picture change
completely. For example, I can make the dusk turn into a night sky. Or I can make it seem like a stormy day or a
storm is approaching. And if i change the colors even more, I can even change this from a sunset to a sunrise. Us-
ing different colors can also change the focal point on multiple objects. I can make the sun the focal point and then I
can change things up and make the rocks the focal point if I wanted to. Colors can make the picture more interesting
and they can change the whole meaning of the original picture as well.
Composition: My eyes saw many different things throughout this photograph. They first are focused on the
setting sun and how it's rays reflect off of the water. The rocks in the front of the picture, make the picture more inter-
esting as well because they are not really the main focus but it is the this or forth thing that the viewer focuses on. I
also saw a sunset at first, but as mentioned above, I can change the whole picture just by adjusting colors on many
objects. All viewers will have any different opinions on the picture, so they may all see different things when looking
at the picture I chose.

To create this picture, I first took my final draft of the re-created picture that I had before. Then I chose the sky layer
first and changed the color completely from the original color. After I decided on the color that I wanted, I chose every
other separate object and made them all different hues and saturations from the color of the sky that I changed. This
is what created the monochromatic color throughout the entire picture. i made each different hue, either a brighter
shade or a darker shade depending on the objects that were lighter and darker in the original picture. After I finalized
the different hues, then i went back and made the clouds and the waves rounded to make them appear more realistic
in my re-created picture.

Concept
The concept for this image was simple yet bright. I wanted to change the whole focus from the sky to the air-

I began playing with the color library for this image. I took the realistic replica I had done of the image and added more
color and contrast in this image. There 5 different hues in the sky oppose to three in the original one. I figured that the

My name is Leah Murphy. I am a new transfer student at St. Xavier University. My major is Art Education.

I graduated from Carl Sandburg High School in 2006. I attended Columbia College in Chicago, majoring in Film
& Video, for one year. I then attended Moraine Valley Community College for three years. I graduated from
MVCC in May 2010 with an Associate in Arts. I worked as a lab aide in the Black & White Photography Lab for
two years and enjoyed every minute of it.

I am now continuing my education at SXU and so far am very pleased. I have found that everyone is very
friendly and helpful. SXU also offers many great resources for both students and artists alike, which has been a
wonderful discovery. I am very eager to learn and expand my mind here at SXU.
