Senior Capstone Final Project

2019-2020

As the culmination of our Senior Capstone unit, you will complete a research supported project
of your choosing or design. You will begin by writing a project proposal that details what your
teacher can expect from the final result, the content of the project, and how you plan to submit
your work. Once your proposal is accepted, you will have some time in class to complete it, but
you may also need to work outside of class. Make sure you choose or design a project that you
can actually complete. If you don’t have video production equipment, don’t choose to make a
video; if you can’t paint, don’t plan to create a painting.

Minimum Requirements:
Research: 2-3 sources; work cited page in proper MLA format
Writing: at least one typed page (in correct MLA format) that explains the connection between
your strengths, values, or goals and the final product.
Product: some kind of tangible or viewable product that demonstrates a skill/talent, value, or
goal.

The following are SUGGESTIONS for products. You can use them, alter them, or combine
them as you choose, just make sure you explain in detail on your project proposal what your
teacher can expect from you.

1. Work of art: create an ORIGINAL work of art- painting, drawing, sculpture, comic strip,
etc.- that demonstrates some aspect of your life. You may choose to focus on a value, a
belief, a goal, a strength, or an area of growth. You may also choose to create multiple
pieces, perhaps a series. You may NOT trace or copy from another artist. If you are not
prepared to create your own work, choose a different project.

2. Video: create a video or compilation of videos that demonstrate some aspect of your
life. You may choose to focus on a value, a belief, a goal, a strength, or an area of
growth. This must be your own work, but may incorporate both new, original video and
editing of other/older pieces.

3. Writing: write a short story, play, or series of poems that demonstrate some aspect of
your life. You may choose to focus on a value, a belief, a goal, a strength, or an area of
growth.

4. Music: create an original song (music and lyrics), score, or soundtrack that
demonstrates some aspect of your life. You may choose to focus on a value, a belief, a
goal, a strength, or an area of growth. You must download the music onto a flash drive
or CD or upload to YouTube. Teachers may or may not have access to SoundCloud,
thus you may not submit a link to this platform.
5. Drama: Write a one-act play that demonstrates some aspect of your life. You may
choose to focus on a value, a belief, a goal, a strength, or an area of growth. This must
be submitted to turnitin.com.

6. Performance: choreograph and record a performance of a dance that demonstrates

some aspect of your life. You may choose to focus on a value, a belief, a goal, a
strength, or an area of growth.

7. TedTalk: create and record a 5-7 minute TedTalk on a topic of your choice. This should
be something you are passionate about and want to share with others. You must have
some kind of visual aids used in the presentation, most likely a Power Point in the
background. You must upload the final product onto YouTube and make sure it is
accessible for anyone with the link.

8. Interviews: Interview at least three different people who have a career you are
interested in, work for a company you want to work for, or focus on a social issue that is
of interest to you (such as someone who works for Path of Life if you are concerned with
homelessness).

9. Vision Board: create a vision board that demonstrates your goals for your future, your
values, and the person you want to be.

10. Digital Newspaper: create a digital newspaper or newsletter about a cause that interests
you. All content must be original or reprinted with permission. You may utilize research
(properly cited), to write original articles. You may include photos, contact information
for organizations that support the same cause, recommended reading to learn more,
interviews with people involved with this cause, editorials, surveys, etc.

11. Website: similar to the digital newspaper, create a website that shares information about
a cause you are interested in. This must be a SEPARATE website from your Capstone
website, but included as a link on your website. Make sure content on your site is either
original, linked, or included with permission. You may include links to other
organizations or digital content if relevant, but these should be links, not embedded
content.

12. Children’s book: create an original children’s book, including pictures/illustrations, that
teaches children about a cause you care about. All content must be original, including
pictures/illustrations. You may use clip art or images from digital commons, but not
anything that is currently under copyright protection.

13. Lesson Plan: create a lesson plan or series of lessons about a topic/cause that is of
interest to you. You can target these toward any age group you like. All content must
be original. You may not use someone else’s work in your lesson.
