Abstract: Existentialist literature appeared in Latin America around the 1940s and its presence,
instead of becoming extinct with the passage of time, continued until the 1960s when it again
gained strength thanks to the particular conditions of the Latin American context that led to the
writers of the region to accept this thought as a way to appropriate expression to narrate the
future of society. This article of reflection analyzes how the existentialist attitude was configured
in the Latin American literature of the sixties, and what are its defining characteristics and its
relations to the social context.
