ACKNOWLEDGMENT

With boundless love and appreciation, we, the researchers would like to extend

our heartfelt gratitude to the people who helped us bring this study into reality. It is a

genuine pleasure to express our deep sense of thanks to the following:

First of all, this research would not have been possible without the hands of our

parents. We offer our huge thanks to them for both financial and moral support.

Second, we would like to thank our beloved teacher/research adviser Mr. Melbin

Ducusin for the constant guidance and undying support, for he was the only one who

molded us to become an excellent researchers’. He was on our side from the very

beginning until we reached the finish line doing this friendly research.

Third, we can’t be able to complete the data that we are needed without the

presence of Mr. Patrick Salinas for allowing us to gather the grades of the Grade 11

STEM students for us to reflect their academic performance by which correlates to our

study.

Fourth, a great honor to the Grade 11 STEM students from N1 to N6 for their

special participation as we conducted this research. Also to our classmates and friends

who were always there to provide and share their good insights about our study.

Lastly, we would like to thank Our Almighty Father for giving us the courage and

enough knowledge to finish this study. He was so awesome for He never forsook us in

every part of our journey.

ABSTRACT

It has been observed that some students had difficulty in the math subject.

According to some mathematics teachers and students; the said problem still exists

now. This study aimed to determine relationship between Math Anxiety and Lack of

Problem-Solving Skills to Grade 11 STEM Senior High School Student’s Performance in

Mathematics. This study used research questionnaires that are used to measure math

anxiety and problem solving skills of the respondents. This study used the descriptive

survey method. The collected data was tabulated, analyzed and subjected to

appropriate statistical tools. The following conclusions were drawn based on the

findings of the study. There is a significant correlation between math anxiety and lack of

problem solving skills. Thus it can be concluded that math anxiety and lack of problem

solving skills affects the math performance of students. The following recommendations

are proposed: teachers should continue to strengthen their stress coping style through

varied activities that will help students improve their mathematical performance. It is

recommended for other researchers that conduct similar studies to verify the result of

the study or to find other variables that may affect student mathematical performance.
