2010-11 SENATE/JUDICIAL COUNCIL APPOINTMENT
APPLICATION PACKET

Note: Each candidate applying for an appointment to a Student Government


Association (SGA) Senate/Judicial Council position is required to read the following
Appointment Application Packet and meet all requirements therein. Each candidate
must return a completed Appointment Application Packet to the Dean of Students
Office (301 Student Union) no later than Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 4:00pm.
A candidate may ask for proof of receipt from office personnel who shall note the time
and date of receipt on each packet received. The Student Government Association
President shall collect and review all completed Appointment Application Packets from
the Dean of Students Office on a regular basis throughout the filing period. The Student
Government Association President shall make every attempt to notify a potential
candidate of any discrepancies in his/her application.

Important Dates for SGA Senate/Judicial Council Appointments:

 Appointment Applications Available: Wednesday, November 31 – Wednesday,


December 15 in the Dean of Students Office (301 Student Union), Student
Government Association Office (330 Student Union), or Student Government
Association website: http://sga.nku.edu.

 Appointment Applications Due: Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 4:00pm in the


Dean of Students Office.

Contents of the Appointment Application Packet:

 Article III (Membership & Qualifications): Article in SGA Constitution


pertaining to Senate membership.

 Article IV (Branches of Government): Article in SGA Constitution pertaining to


the procedure of filling vacancies in the Senate.

This information will be distributed to current members of the Student Government
Association for consideration prior to any appointment hearing.

SGA Constitution Article III: Membership and Qualifications

C. Specific qualifications for the Senate and Judicial Council:


1. Must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0
scale at the time of election or forfeit their office. The Dean of Students or his/her
designee shall verify grades.
2. There shall be thirty (30) Senate seats elected by the student body.
3. There shall be five (5) Judicial Council seats elected by the student body.

B. The Student Senate
2. Filling Vacancies
a. Any vacancies occurring on the Senate shall be filled through appointment
by the President with a two-thirds (2/3) concurrence of the Senate. Those
individuals shall assume their respective position until the next regularly
scheduled election. All appointed Senators shall fulfill the same
requirements as those for a candidate of the respective office.
b. The Executive Cabinet shall announce and publicize vacant positions to
the student body and provide a period of no less than ten (10) official
school days for candidates to file for consideration. Candidates must
submit their materials to the office of the Dean of Students.
i. Applications shall be sent to all Senators for review within five (5)
official school days prior to the appointment date and shall have the
opportunity to interview applicants on appointment date.

C. Judicial Council
3. Filling Vacancies
a. Any vacancies occurring on the Judicial Council shall be filled through
appointment by the President with a majority of the Senate. Those
individuals shall assume their respective position until the next regularly
scheduled election.
b. The Executive Cabinet shall announce and publicize vacant positions to
the Student body and provide a period of no less than ten (10) official
school days for candidates to file for consideration. Candidates must
submit their materials to the office of the Dean of Students.
c. Applications shall be sent to all Senators for review within five (5) official
school days prior to the appointment date and shall have the opportunity to
interview applicants on said date.

These rules and guidelines have been set forth by the Dean of Students Office.
