A Memorable Short glimpse of Visiting the Senate of the Philippines

It is an honor to be part of the Humanities and Social Sciences strand as I experienced to visit the
Senate of the Philippines last October 1, 2019 at Pasay City. My classmates and I started to enter
into the senate museum, there is a woman that guide and provide us worthwhile information
about the history of the upper house in the legislative branch of our country. I cherished
everything I knew. What I learned more about the history of the Senate of the Philippines is that
the official logo or seal and the mace indicates the authority of the senate and the authority of the
Sergeant-at-Arms when enforcing order. I found out that there is an important symbol of the
official seal of the senate, the 24 stars encircled around the seal symbolize the 24 elected senators
we have in our country.

This year was the 103rd year of the senate of the Philippines. I discover that the previous seal of
the senate of the Philippines has an eagle and lion however it was removed because it symbolizes
colonialism. A latin "Leges Servatae Pax Fiat" that can be seen below the coat of arms of the
Philippines is the motto of the senate of the Philippines means Law Serves Peace, Let It Be
Done.” The tour guide discuss the walls of the museum bears the portraits of all the Senate
Presidents of the Philippines from the very start up to now.

We also had a chance to enter the session hall, and witness a discussion of the senators. I am glad
that I had the chance to know the history and how the politics run inside the senate. I am truly
delighted in the visit and we truly found out about legislative issues and we cherished this in
light of the fact that not every person has the chance to visit the senate that is the reason I am
grateful to the each and every one behind this movement for making this possible. Obviously to
my school, San Beda University-Manila for having an essential action like this, that is selective
for HUMSS students. I can say that this action would truly support us and gave some inspiration
to the individuals who need to be a piece of the senate sometime in the not so distant future.

The experience was a short period but memorable. When I was there, I appreciate all the things
I’ve seen and it made me realized that I want to be part of the senators someday.
