1 L CONTAINER FOR STORING DRINKING WATER TO CLIMB A

MOUNTAIN

Description of container:

Container that can use for storing fluids (drinking water). This container is specifically used for
climbing a mountain activity. While climbing a mountain, the low temperature of mountain often
make the climber’s drinking water freeze. So it is needed to make a right container for the case.

Control variable:

1. Sun light
The sun light is able to damage the drinking water quality. The drinking water should be
placed on the indirect sun light place.
2. Air temperature
The low temperature in mountain can make the drinking water freeze. So it is needed for
making the container that isolated from the environment temperature.

Constraint:

1. Choosing a material for the right container to make the light, economize, and isolated
container.

Objective function:

For storing the drinking water and keep it for constant in the ideal temperature.
Base configuration:

The container shape is like a bottle.

Volume of container is 1 L.

Material: from the isolator that keep the water in ideal temperature.

Thermal analysis:

Assumption:

Thermal distribution on 2-D view (side view)

Environment temperature (TL) = 50 C

System temperature (Ts) = 1000 C

TL = 50 C
The thermal distribution of isolated system in 2D view is:

Fig. 3. Temperature distribution of inside the container. Blue-green color shows a low temperature of the
drinking water inside container, because of effect from environment temperature in mountain. Yellow-red
color shows a high temperature from the drinking water, because system temperature (1000C) is constant
as an isolated system.

Conclusion:

The isolated system made from glass- vacuum- stainless steel can keep the temperature of
drinking water on system temperature. It is shown by MATLAB Simulation and calculation.
