 All soil investigation work must be carried as per relevant Indian Standards for subsurface
investigations (IS 1892), classification of soils (IS 1498), determination of bearing pressures
for shallow foundations (IS 6403). Shall conform with IS 2131, SP36, IS 4454, IS 1893 2016
and various other Standards specified for the sampling, tests and recommendations. For
laboratory testing of rock Samples, Methods Suggested by International Society of Rock
Mechanics (ISRM) Shall Be Followed.
 Investigation in Rocks shall comply with IS 8764 , Rock Quality designation (RQD) shall b
reported in the reported along with other properties of rock , UCS ( Uniaxial Compressive
strength as per IS 9143)
 Carrying out laboratory tests on the samples collected to determine Engineering Properties
of Soil as directed by the Consulting Engineers. i.e. Triaxial test, direct Shear test, Plasticity
Index, Grain Size Analysis, Specific Gravity, Atterberg’s Limit Tests, consolidation Test,
Porosity, unconfined compressive strength, Bulk and Dry Density Test, Natural Moisture
Content etc as applicable. All this tests shall be conducted at an interval of 1m and values of
the same shall be tabulated graphically for each bore hole.
 Recording existing ground water table and the extent of fluctuation, if any, in ground water
table level. Suggestion is expected on possibility of Open excavation and depth of unshored
excavation across the site. Also the possibility of corrosive effects of soil and water on
foundation, Liquefaction potential shall be determined if required and shall be reported.
 Compilation of test data and submission of investigation report along with
recommendations on type of foundations, bearing, settlement, etc.
 Collection of Un-Disturbed, and SPT soil samples at suitable regular interval, further,
penetration test is also to be conducted for the samples.
 The Soil Investigation Agency is expected to make recommendation on each type of
Foundation, Depth of Foundation and Net Allowable Pressure based on appropriate method
as per soil type, along with the values of modules of sub-grade at different levels. The
expected short-term and long-term settlements, Cohesion, Angle of friction values, Sub
grade modulus for the recommended bearing pressures shall be clearly spelt out for
different soil type encountered at uniform intervals.
 For soil samples, following laboratory tests will also be performed Sieve Analysis, Specific
Gravity, LL, PL, Bulk Density, Dry Density, Direct Shear, Un-Confined Compression Test, UU,
CU, and Consolidation test.
 For all recommendations, the formulae in Indian Standards shall be used or any established
literature can be consulted. The soil investigation agency shall give complete calculations to
the structural consultants showing the basis of the recommendations on field and
laboratory tests.
  The detailed investigation carried out shall suggest foundation depths, Bearing capacities
and Foundation type for buildings. Suitable depth of investigation shall be worked out as
per guidelines laid by National building code 2016.
Foundation Type shall be as per building configuration given below
1. Hospital Building B+G+4
2. Type 2 residential G+3
3. Type 3 residential G+3/G+2
4. Type 4s G+1
