FIRST SPEAKER (OPPOSITION)

Thank you Mr,Madam speaker,

A Very good morning to the honourable adjudicators, my worthy opponents and members of
the house. We are here today to debate the motion this house believes ‘this house agrees that
kids mental disorder are caused only by wrong models in family’. Before we proceed with our
arguments, I would like to first redefine the topic of today’s debate.

We define
Kids are children under 13 years old. Or synonym as child, youngster, little one, young one,
baby, toddler, infant, boy/girl, and young person.

MENTAL DISORDER are mentality problems such as Anxiety & panic attacks, Bipolar disorder,
Depression, Eating disorders, Obsessive-compulsive disorder. Personality disorder, Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Psychosis.

Model is a person looked to by others as an example to be imitated.

Family is a group consisting of two parents and their children living together as a unit or those
who are blood related or not or a group consist of people living together and share emotional
support.

While mental disorder, that is also called as mental illness or psychiatric disorder, is a
behavioral or mental pattern that causes significant distress or impairment of personal
functioning. Such features may be persistent, relapsing and remitting, or occur as a single
episode. Many disorders have been described, with signs and symptoms that vary widely
between specific disorders. Such disorders may be diagnosed by a mental health professional.
The causes of mental disorders are often unclear.

And we do strongly agree that wrong model in family can lead to mental disorder. But that is
only one of the reasons which means there are so many things other than that which could lead
to mental disorder.

THUS, we refute/agree the definition given by the government and we strongly believe that
Mental disorders are usually defined by a combination of how a person behaves, feels,
perceives, or thinks. This may be associated with particular regions or functions of the brain,
often in a social context. A mental disorder is one aspect of mental health. Cultural and
religious beliefs, as well as social norms, should be taken into account when making a
diagnosis.”

In order to present our case, I, Nur Arfah Amani as the Leader of the opposition, will rebut the
argument given by the Prime Minister. Then, I will introduce our first argument. My second
speaker, sir Muhammad Afiq Aiman will rebut the arguments put forward by the First Minister
of the Government. Then, he will present TWO more arguments in our effort to refute today’s
topic. Following that, my 3rd speaker, miss Nurul Syakirah will rebut ALL the arguments made by
the Government and reaffirm our stand on this motion. Finally, my Second speaker would sum
up our case by delivering the Reply Speech.

Firstly, let me rebut the first argument by the government.

(REBUT- listen to him/her point and write down what you don’t agree)

The Prime minister mentioned that – _______________________________________________

____________________________________________________________________.

We disagree with him/her. We think ________________________________________________

______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________.

Ladies and gentlemen,

To our first point is kids mental disorder are caused not only by the wrong model in the family
but also by their environment factors. Environment here means their social intercourse,
friends, teachers, neighbours, the society and so on.

As for friends, we all know, bully cases are now increasing day by day even though various
campaigns have been conducted to prevent bullying. And this is one of the causes of mental
disorders. The bully victim will definitely feel depressed and dissatisfied. They will look for
solutions so they can face this thing. But not all bully victims are doing the right solution. For
example, they will hurt themselves and maybe crying all night at the room corner. This is what
will lead to mental disorder. They think by doing so, they will be able to calm themselves, but
they did beyond that.

Ladies and gentlemen,

We do not want our kids mental disorder cause them to the next level which is mental illness.
Thus, mental illness can also cause by the society as in the caretaker. Nowadays, we see there
are so many child abuses from caretaker, and tons of news that caretakers are abusing child to
the death. They might hit the kids, smack the kids to the wall and bounce the kid.

In November 11, 2018, an 11-month-old baby died due to sexual and physical abuse at the
hands of her caretaker’s husband in Seksyen 16, Bandar Baru Bangi. Other than that, KUALA
LUMPUR: Two caretakers of a childcare centre in Rawang have been arrested over the alleged
abuse of a 12-year-old boy. The case came to light when the boy's cousin, 21, lodged a police
report on the matter on Tuesday.According to her report, the boy was allegedly chained up and
punched on the mouth and right eye by the caretakers in the Bandar Country Homes
centre. The boy also had bruises and cuts on his hand, feet, and head

Well, ladies and gentlemen, so it is very clear that kids mental disorder are caused not only by
the wrong model in the family but also by their environment factors. And, before I take my
seat, let me reaffirm our stand that “This House Agree That Kids Mental Disorder NOT Only
Caused by Wrong Model in Family”. But let me remind you, our fight does not end here. My
colleagues will continue fight for this motion and you will see how true we are.

With that, I thank you.

SECOND SPEAKER (OPPOSITION)

Thank you, Mr./ Madam speaker,

Very good morning to the honourable adjudicators, my worthy opponents and members of the
house. Before I proceed with my arguments, I would like to first rebut the arguments put
forward by the first Minister of the government team.

(REBUT - Listen to his/her point and write down what you don't agree)

The First Minister mentioned that

______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________.

We disagree with him/her. We think -

______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________

Then, the second speaker mentioned that -

______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________.

We disagree with him/her. We think -

______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________

Ladies and gentlemen

Mental disorder can also come from the kids themselves.

Kid these days seems busier than us. They are so busy with their schedules that caused the kids
spent less their free time which make their brain cannot stop from working. For example, a
student has a school activity in the day and coming home late bcs they have personal work to
do, night later, the student have to go to tuition and they back home at 10PM, it is not including
their homework. Does it make sense? Cause they are still kid.

Moreover, it is also caused from overthinking. Let’s say that a boy likes someone and being
addicted to them. The kid keeps thinking that girl will like him. Later on, he confessed to that
girl and got rejected. I want to put an incident that happened lately in our city. On Tuesday, 12
March, a form one male student climbed the roof of a double-storey school building and
threatened to commit suicide because a female student rejected him. It is not about age we are
arguing about. It is because of mental illness. What more they can do? It’s up to you think
deeper.

Lastly, i want talk about Social anxiety, Caregivers can instill social anxiety in their children by
negatively framing social opportunities as “dangerous” rather than positively framing them as
“challenging,” according to psychologist Helen Odesskly. If they don’t stress what their children
can gain from social interaction, their children are likely to only perceive it as a source of
anxiety.

Ladies and gentlemen,

To my last point is,

Models are not ONLY based on family

WE can see nowadays, not all children choose their parent as their role model, NOT for those
who are age 10 until 12. They are more likely to choose other people that are socially more
popular or famous in social media like Instagram, Youtube, or twitter. For Example, the singers,
actors, models and other public figures.

Let me give you a statistic, in South Korea, there is a kid age among 10 to 12 who is an
obsessive-fan of a group of artists. She confessed her feeling by cutting her arm and use her
blood as an ink to write a confession letter and later she uploads it on the twitter. There is also
another case that involving an obsessive fan which age among 10 to 12 and other teenage fans
which is a Twitter user also known as the Bieber fans have been posting a graphic image,
including ones of themselves with slashed wrists, surrounded by blades and blood and trending
it with a hashtag ‘#cut for bieber’ stating that they were self-mutilating themselves.
We can obviously see here that the kids’ mental disorder not only caused by the wrong model
in family but also caused by the role model of social media or other public figure SO, if they are
too addicted to their artist, it can lead them to become psychosis and later become a
depression another root of mental illness.

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. We have put forward two more arguments on why we
consider (topic title). Before I rest my case, let me reaffirm our stand that
‘_____________________________________’.

With that, I thank you.

THIRD SPEAKER -(OPPONENT)
Thank you, Mr./Madam speaker,

Very good morning to the honourable adjudicators, my worthy opponents and members of the
house.

Alas, it's my turn. As the last speaker, I would like to rebut ALL the arguments put forward by
the government.

(REBUT- listen to second and first speakers points and write down what you don't agree)

The First Minister mentioned that –_________________________________________________

Next, The Second speaker also said that, - ___________________________________________

We disagree with him/ her. We think – ______________________________________________

this motion and you will see how true we are.

With that, I thank you.

REPLY SPEECH (OPPOSITION)

Thank you, Mr./Madam,

A very good morning to the honourable adjudicators, my worthy opponents and members of
the house.
Before I deliver our Reply Speech, let me rebut the points made by the Government once and
for all.

(Use third speaker’s note) -- 2 min ONLY!! I would like to rebut the opposition’s case.

Now let me sum up what we have presented in a nutshell. First, I, the leader of the Opposition
has defined the topic as ‘_______________________________________’.

Then, (I/he/she) also went to present our first argument, that is - kids mental disorder is caused
not only by the wrong model in the family but also by their environment factors. Environment
here means their social intercourse, friends, teachers, neighbours, the society and so on.
Then, (I as / The second speaker of the Opposition) presented two more arguments.

One-
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
________________________________.

Two-
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
___________________________________.

As a word of advice, let us not be deceived by the definition and arguments given by the
government. The topic is and remains ‘__________________________________________’.

With that, I thank you.

More points

● Trauma: Sexual, physical, and emotional abuse during childhood all lead to an increase
in the likelihood of developing a mental disorder. Highly stressful home environments,
loss of a loved one, and natural disasters are also major contributors.
● Emotional harm: Negative school experiences and bullying can also result in severe
long-term emotional damage. The realization of these issues has led to anti-bullying
campaigns nationwide, and the implementation of these campaigns has placed a larger
importance on the overall mental health of school-aged children and teens.
● Substance Abuse: Exposure tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs either prenatally or in
childhood has been associated with the development of mental disorders beyond just
substance use disorders or addiction.

If they point out points about genetic - this may help

● Epigenetic regulation: Epigenetics affect how a person reacts to environmental factors

and may affect whether that person develops a mental disorder as a result. Epigenetics
is not constant over time. This means a gene is not always "on" or "off." There must be
the right combination of environmental factors and epigenetic regulation for a mental
disorder to develop.
● Genetic polymorphisms: These changes in our DNA make us unique as individuals. A
polymorphism alone will not lead to the development of a mental disorder. However,
the combination of one or more specific polymorphisms and certain environmental
factors may lead to the development of a mental disorder.
● Single gene changes: Rare.

Definition

Mental disorders are the result of both genetic and environmental factors. There is no single
genetic switch that when flipped causes a mental disorder. Consequently, it is difficult for
doctors to determine a person's risk of inheriting a mental disorder or passing on the disorder
to their children. The causes of mental disorders are complex, requiring many interacting genes
and environmental factors.
