These devices collect and share data on how they are used and the environment in
which they are operated. Everything is done using sensors, the sensors are
integrated into each physical device. It can be your mobile phone, appliances,
traffic lights, Pecos barcode sensors and almost everything in everyday life.
These sensors continuously emit data on the operating status of the devices, but the
important question is how they share this large amount of data, and how we put
this data to our benefit. Iot provides a common platform for all these devices to
download their data. And a common language for all devices to communicate with
each other. The data is emitted from several sensors and sent to the IoT security
platform. The IoT platform integrates data collected from various sources.
Additional analyzes are performed on the data and valuable information is
extracted according to the requirements.
The result is shared with other devices for a better user experience. Automation
and efficiency improvement. Let's look at a scenario where IoT platforms is doing
wonders. In an AC manufacturing industry, both the manufacturing machine and
the belt have sensors connected, continuously sending data on the condition of the
machine and the production specifications to the manufacturer to identify problems
beforehand. A barcode is appended to every item before leaving the belt.
It contains the item code, producer subtleties, uncommon directions, and so on.
The manufacturer uses this data to identify where the product was distributed and
to track the retailer's inventory, therefore, the manufacturer can make the product
run out of stock. To different retailers.
Each retailer has a barcode reader to track products that come from different
manufacturers, manage inventory and consult special instructions and many more.
The air conditioning compressor has a built-in sensor that emits data on your health
and temperature. This data is not continuously allied, which allows customer
service to contact you to perform the repair work on time. This is just one of the
millions of scenarios.
We have smart appliances, smart cars, smart homes and smart cities where IoT
platforms is redefining our lifestyle and transforming the way we interact with
technologies. The future of the IoT industry is huge. Business Insider Intelligence
estimates that 24 billion IoT devices will be installed by 2020 and ITC predicts that
IoT revenues will reach around three hundred fifty-seven billion in 2019, which
will generate many job opportunities in the IT industry.
The following is that of cars, how can cars be improved with IoT? When IoT is
combined with cars, the car manufacturer can improve its customer service simply
by placing the device in the car that is connected to the Internet and collecting all
the information about the state of the car, such as pressure, or if your car needs any
type of maintenance and report. So, you don't have to be aware of the condition of
your car. And you can also track your car with that device. Very cool.
The growth and convergence of data, processes and things on the Internet would
make such connections more relevant and important, creating more opportunities
for people, businesses and industries.
More than half of the world's population now lives in urban areas - from just 34%
in the 1960s. By the middle of the century, this figure could reach 66%, according
to the UN. Cities are major contributors to climate change, and some are already
feeling its effects due to rising sea levels and increasingly harsh weather
conditions.
But cities are also big incubators of Internet-based systems that make city life more
attractive, such as fast, convenient transportation, secure street lighting, and
energy-efficient buildings.
Las Vegas uses the Internet of Things to improve traffic flow, but in South Korea,
the entire smart city of Songdo is built around the Internet of Things. Songdo's
networks are designed to ensure that its buildings, transportation system and
infrastructure are as efficient as possible.
The Internet of Things can help cities improve public health. According to a recent
study, dirty air and water killed an incredible 10 million people in 2016 alone.
Cities with chronic pollution, such as Delhi and Beijing, have begun implementing
sensor networks to alert residents when levels are dangerously high.
Smarter agriculture
From massive farmers like Cargill to small organic farmers, farmers around the
world are using the Internet of Things to reduce water and fertilizer consumption,
reduce waste, and improve the quality or yield of their produce. Examples range
from monitoring the microclimate across farmland to closely monitoring
temperature changes and humidity levels when perishable goods move from field
to warehouse to extend their shelf life and eliminate waste.
Connecting patients
The iot platforms can change the healthcare landscape by helping doctors access
patients' data more quickly. In iot security the Portable internet-connected sensor
devices that monitor a patient's heart rate, pulse, or even blood pressure are
becoming more affordable, compact and accurate. While the safe collection,
transmission and use of this data is still under discussion, wearables are one of the
most promising applications of the Internet of Things in healthcare.
