I believe that every person is different but special in their own way.
This is true also to our students; they should be instilled with good values
so that they can grow up to be good valuable person. They deserve to be
educated in a positive environment where they feel safe, comfortable,
motivated and engages in their learning. As an educator, this is what I’ve
learned in the Guro 21 or Gearing up Responsible and Outstanding
Teachers in Southeast Asia for the 21st Century which aims to address the
teachers needs in relation to technological advances and changing education
trends of the 21st century. Throughout the modules it has been good that as
a teacher I enhance my knowledge, skills, attitudes and values on teaching
and learning in the new century.I know our traditional way of teaching, we
just require students to sit attentively, read and write, we even encourage
our students to ask questions, join discussion and do the chalk and talk
lesson but with a lot of learning’s in this course as a teacher,I am tasked to
help provide my students with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values
they need to succeed in their studies, work, and life face changes in the 21st
century. To do this, it is necessary that as a teacher I will then be more than
ready to become an important agent towards preparing my students to
become productive members of 21st century societies.

In Guro 21 modules gives me a lot of significant insights about the


changes and challenges of 21st education, particularly in the Southeast
Asian context. In course 1 module 1 we studied the critical attributes of
21stcentury education, I became familiar with the new parameters in the
teaching and learning process and the four pillars of learning as a
framework on which 21st century education is anchored. And also
introduced me to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) literacy
in the 21st century.Guro 21 helps me develop my professional and personal
readiness as a 21st century teacher. In Guro 21, I learned to cope with the
society’s fast growing technology to be able to face challenges and demands
of the 21st century education. Honestly, to be part of this course is really a
tough job for me but I consider this as a challenge and I know I will gain
more knowledge and skills to become an effective 21st century teacher.

As a teacher, I must ensure to provide effective instruction using a


variety of instructional methods and following different pedagogical
approaches aided with technology. I should be active, participate on
different online community and seek out professional development to
improve or better the learning of our students.As far as the classroom, I will
do my best to make sure it is organized so that everything flows smoothly.
Some strategies that I will implement in my class are the use of visuals and
many other hands on activities. Since students learn differently they need to
be provided with a variety of ways to learn. I will do my best to make my
lessons interesting because this helps motivate students and engage them
more in the learning process. Different types of technology will be used to
help aid in the learning process.What I hope to accomplish by using these
strategies is that each student will be able to successfully learn to the best
of their ability.

In connection with the activities we had on synchronous online chat


session since it is online activities we experience difficulty and challenging
issues wherein the reliability of the internet connection wasn’t that good and
with that there are postponement of our chat session and the most difficult
encounter we had is when our flexible learning tutor Dr.
EmmalindaDuhaylungsodneeds to be substituted because of very sensible
reason and with that our chat sessions need to extended and wait for
replacement. Even if something happen still if there’s a will there’s a way
then we are privilegedand lucky enough as the seameo staff consigned Dr.
Becky Postrano as our Flexible learning tutor.Working with others and with
our FLT during the inputs has enabled me to further develop my
communication skills as well as skills such as listening and empathy.
Furthermore, working on some of the tasks has made the experience more
enjoyable. The motivation & encouragement we provided to each other was
invaluable. I feel I have learn a lot from them as professionals, sharing ideas
and thoughts about many different issues seeing different perspectives and
encouraging me to develop my own thinking.

On the other hand, I have to admit that completing all the


requirements has been quite a challenge and I have taken a lot of time &
effort to make it the best it could be. I do feel a sense of pride and
achievement after completing this module and portfolio. The skills that I
acquired and developed from this Guro 21 are also going to assist me in my
future career & professional development.

Overall, I have experience so much opportunities and great learning


from this course. To be part of the Gearing Up Responsible and Outstanding
Teachers in Southeast Asia for the 21st Century or Guro 21 Course 1 is
indeed and a memorable occasion. I am glad that I made this decision as I
now feel more confident in delivering lessons in specific areas which I
previously was slightly daunted by. Thank you for this opportunity to the
staff of SEAMEO, our FLT Dr. Becky Postrano and to our School Principal.
May our Almighty God bless us all!
