The scientific article is entitled Using Drama and Drama Techniques to Teach English
Conversations to English as A Foreign Language Learners . It is researcher by Saman
Masoumi-Moghaddam. The writer is from Department of English Language Literature,
University of Tehran, Kish International Campus, Kish, Iran. This scientific article was
published in 2018 in International Journal of Applied Linguistics & English Literature.

Two studies were carried out to conduct a reseacrh about examine the ways in which
drama and drama techniques and practices, as implemented in the English language classes and
combined with pedagogical practices to teach and learn English conversation, can create the
appropriate conditions that promote learning environments conducive for learning English
conversations. The researcher uses two classified into two groups including Control and
Experimental groups. This research focuses on two research problems, 1.) In what ways do
drama and drama techniques help create conducive learning environments for the EFL
students? and 2.) How drama and drama techniques can enhance students’ conversation skills?
From that finding, the researcher finds showed that there was no significant improvement in
English competence of the Control group but the Experimental group revealed a tremendous
achievement in their abilities in English conversations through the use of dramatic discourse.
The research believed that teachers can depend a lot on learners’ prior knowledge to help them
achieve their educational goals.

Concerning , Using Drama and Drama Techniques to Teach English more studies like
Rosyada, Yufrizal, & Sudirman (2014), Ery Susilawati (2013) were conducted. According to
Rosyada, Yufrizal, & Sudirman (2014), by using drama, students drop their shyness and other
personality and cultural inhibitions, making them one of the best tools available for teaching.
The result of this research proves that role play is an appropriate way to improve the students'
speaking achievement. Meanwhile, Ery Susilawati (2013) found that the research result shows
that the implementation of drama technique is effective to improve students’ speaking skill. Its
cooperative and systematic learning structures motivate students to learn speaking, promote
students’ self-confidence in speaking practice and maximize students’ interaction during the
learning process. More specifically Ery susilawati proved that there are the implementation of
drama technique is effective to improve students’ speaking skill.
