WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS USED
IN MAKING SHOES?
Nike's main components of production are polyester, rubber, Eva foam,
cotton, synthetic leather, and leather. 19% of the polyester Nike uses is
recycled. Nike helped recycle 82 million water bottles to make polyester out
of.

2.) Where does each materials came from?

Polyester - Asia (China, India, and Southeast Asia), where the fast-growing
textile industry has been consuming increasing amounts of polyester fibers in
a chain of textile weaving, dyeing, and apparel making industries.
Rubber - As its name suggests, the rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis originally
came from Brazil, from where it was introduced to such countries of the Far
East as Malaysia, Indonesia, Burma, Cambodia, China, and Vietnam.

Eva foam – China. Cotton – India.

Synthetic Leather – Germany. Leather – China, Italy, Brazil, Korea


and Russia.

3.) Identify the countries involved in the manufacturing of the chosen


prouduct. Indicate the corresponding service service the country does for
the product.

- Almost all Nike shoes are manufactured outside of the United States.
The leading manufacturer of Nike shoes is China and Vietnam each
accounting for 36% of the total manufactured worldwide. Indonesia
accounts for 22% and Thailand for 6% of the Nike shoes that are being
produced worldwide. There are 785 contract factories with more than
1 million workers manufacturing more than 500,000 different
products. To make the shoe the worker first cuts all the material in the
shapes and forms they need to be in, they then sew the pieces together
on the upper section above the sole. The workers then prepare the sole
also called stock fitting, followed by preparing the attachment of upper
to the sole also known as lasting. Then the worker attaches and shapes
the bottom heel to its final form this process is called heeling. The
finishing touches are made and any necessary accessories are then
attached in the process called treeing
