SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT USING INTERNET OF THINGS

This article mainly spoke about Supply chain management. It is the process of flow of goods
and services and includes the movement of goods, storage of raw materials, work in process
etc. The main aim is to reduce the inventory costs of the organization. The product delivery
will be send to the distributor regarding delivery of the product as acknowledgement from the
distributor to supplier through GSM, this information is collected and shared with customers
as well, through GSM (global system for mobile communication) and information is
automatically updated through the internet, so that supplier and distributor can use the
information at any time for keeping the records. There are three main modules in supply chain
management in IoT. These are supplier, container and distributor. Synchronization between
supplier and distributor is actually performed with the help of internet of things (IoT). During
the process of supply chain, it involves PIC18F4520 Microcontroller, Keypad, LCD, Global
Positioning System (GPS), Motor driver IC, Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM)
and Relay including the Global Positioning System (GPS) which is used for monitoring the
location of container where it is and sending this information to the supplier for updating. An
Order Number will be generated by supplier and forwarded to distributor through IoT. A
Keypad is provided with product container to enter Order Number. After matching the Order
Number, the door of the container will automatically open. The open and close mechanism of
door is controlled by relay. The identification tag i.e. RFID is provided with every product for
identification. The message of product delivery will be send to distributor regarding delivery
of product as acknowledgement from distributor to supplier through GSM. The message
regarding product received by supplier will be forwarded to customer through GSM. Nowadays
everything happens on the internet, and it is faster and secure. A main example for IoT
utilisation is Uber and Ola.

RFID is known for its best technology in supply chain, where most organisations has already
implemented applications and integrated platforms. Automated data capture and tracking in
real-time has been a major bottleneck, affecting the ability of organizations to optimize their
investments in supply chain solutions. This article also mentioned the role of RFID in supply
chain which allows efficient tracking of the product as they move through the supply chain
which effects the quality of supply chain management as cloud based RFID is becoming
popular now-a-days.
The block diagram has 3 types of units.

1. Supplier unit: in this model RFID tag is connected to all products and are identified by
the RFID tag number with the help of RF module and information regarding delivery
to distributor (like timing and date of dispatch and delivery) is stored in database. Like
cloud computing the information here is automatically saved.
2. Container unit: In this model, Keypad is used for entering the password given by
supplier to distributor and only if the correct password is entered the container is opened
Motor driver ID is used for driving the motor in clockwise and anticlockwise direction
to open container door.
3. Distributor unit: In this model Distributor unit consists of Processor, RFID Reader and
Database. The information of product available in container is verified using processor.
This information of product regarding delivery is updated on Google Spreadsheet and
forwarded to supplier.

The challenges that are faced by the suppliers and the continuous improvement in the
technology gives rise to high competition. The contributions will be high in the coming era in
supply chain management.
