Installing HP 3PAR Management Console
Lab 2

Objectives
After completing this lab, you should be able to:
 Identify the steps necessary to install the HP 3PAR Management Console (MC)
 Launch the MC GUI on the server
 Navigate the MC
 Create a new user account
 Access the on-line help

Introduction
In this lab, you perform tasks necessary to install the MC on your Microsoft Windows
server.
This lab covers the installation of MC for HP 3PAR storage systems. The first part of
the lab will have you install the MC on one of the Windows servers within your lab
group.

! Important
All labs were written using HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2 GA. Patches and updates are not
applied to the storage system, which is also running HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2 GA.

You will configure the MC for the first time and explore additional options in the GUI.
As you go through the lab:
 Read and perform all of the lab steps that you can in the allowable time.
 Concentrate on those tasks that might help you in diagnosis and troubleshooting
the array.

Note
Every lab configuration may be different. Therefore, keep in mind that the lab
exercises are not written for a specific configuration or for one having a specific
rack infrastructure.

Configuring Storage
Lab 3a

Objectives
After completing this lab, you should be able to:
 Launch the Management Console (MC)
 Review online Help
 Create and manage Common Provisioning Groups (CPGs) and Virtual Volumes
(VVs)

Introduction
This lab steps you through the processes involved in configuring your storage using
the MC. You will become familiar with the user interface, and how to create virtual
logical unit numbers (VLUNs) for application server use.

Host Configuration
Lab 3b

Objectives
After completing this lab, you should be able to:
 Prepare the hosts to receive storage from the storage server
 Discover the World Wide Name (WWN) for each Host Bus Adapter (HBA) that
is part of your storage environment
 Configure hosts for storage presentation within the Management Console (MC)
 Present/un-present virtual logical unit numbers (VLUNs) to a host
 Remove a host from the storage system

Requirements
To complete this lab, you will need:
 Microsoft Windows 2003/2008/2008R2 Server installed on one computer that
will serve as a storage client
 HP-UX host (optional)

Overview
The purpose of the lab is to give you some experience preparing hosts for storage
server VLUN presentation. Certain hosts must have Fibre Channel HBA tools and
drivers loaded to enable the supported configuration.
 You will:
 Locate the necessary tools for the installed HBAs
 Collect Fibre Channel HBA WWN information from each client
 You will log in to the switch and verify HBA connectivity and zoning
 You will configure the hosts within the MC for VLUN presentation:
 Create host profiles and register their WWNs
 Present storage to each host

Rev. 13.31 L3b –1

Managing HP 3PAR Disk Array for Enterprise Services

Exercise 1 — Identifying the HBA type

Preparing the Windows storage client
1. Log in to the Windows server that will serve as your storage client.
2. Determine if the system has QLogic or Emulex adapters by using the Device
Manager in Windows.
3. Locate the correct HBA tool according to the HBA type:
 QLogic: SanSurfer
 Emulex: HBAnywhere

Exercise 2 — Determining the host port WWNs

Preparing the Windows server for storage presentation
Based on the type of Fibre Channel HBAs within the server, start the appropriate FC
tool. (Omit the Emulex section if you have only QLogic HBAs.)
For Emulex: Start the HBAnywhere utility. (Start  All Programs  Emulex folder)
1. Select the Configuration Data from the drop-down context list.
2. From the window on the left-hand side, select an HBA. This causes the
configuration data for the selected HBA to be displayed to the right side of the
configuration data screen. Record the node/port WWN last four digits here
(repeat for each HBA/port):
FC HBA Port World Wide Identifier (WWID):
.................................................................................................................
FC HBA Port WWID:
.................................................................................................................
3. After each HBA has been recorded, exit the program.

L3b –2 Rev. 13.31

Host Configuration

For QLogic: Use the SanSurfer utility.

1. Start the SanSurfer graphical interface.
2. In the Connect to Host pop-up, enter your host name or accept the default
localhost, and then select Connect.
3. If you are prompted to configure an unconfigured HBA, select the Do not display
this message checkbox and click No.
4. Select one of the ports on the FC HBA tab (left side of GUI). The information tab
will appear to the right, and the port names will be displayed. Record the port
name (WWN) here.
.................................................................................................................
5. Repeat this process for each port.

Identifying multiple paths

In previous exercises in this course, you presented storage from the storage server to
your servers. Take a moment to identify the disks that have been presented.

From Windows
1. Open the Server Manager console and select Disk Management. Identify the
disks that have been presented as LUNs. How many LUNs are visible to the
operating system? Why?

Using Virtual Domains
Lab 8

Objectives
After completing the lab, you should be able to:
 Create a domain
 Create a domain user
 Create CPGs for domains
 Create VVs as domain user
 View domain summary and capacity info in the security menu
 Move domain objects

Introduction
The purpose of this lab is to create two new CPGs. These will be the CPGs you will
move into your domain.
You will be assigning your assigned Windows host to your domain. On the
Windows host unmount (remove the drive letter) any VLUNs exported to your host.
Then go into the MC GUI and unexport all VVs/VLUNs exported to your Windows
