In this exercise I’d like you to use the flash cards I’ve made up to create your own induction. You
don’t have to write a detailed script at this stage, just jot down a rough outline.
1 Hypnotic focus: phrases you can use to initiate trance by creating focus.
2 Deepeners: phrases you can be used to deepen the trance.
Each section contains a selection of phrases you can choose from when creating your induction.
They are designed to help you creatively put together your own induction, from initiating the
trance to deepening the experience. A useful strategy is to mix and match the phrases while
adding in your own variations.
EXERCISE
1 Using the ‘hypnotic focus’ flash cards – and your own creativity - jot down a rough script that you
could use for initiating trance; for reducing the client’s attention from the many down to a single
element of focus.
2 Using the deepeners 1 & 2 flashcards – and your own creativity – jot down some rough notes that
you could use to deepen the trance experience. Feel free to use more than one deepener when
you do this.
3 If you like, create another variation of the outline you just created. The more you practice, the
better you get.
4 Test it: Say your combination out loud. If possible practice it on a partner. Get feedback.
