A. Course Description
This course provides prospective teachers with approaches, strategies and materials applicable to
general music instruction from Kinder to Grade 6. It utilizes Kodaly, Dalcroze, and Orff
methodologies in developing a repertoire of instructional strategies and techniques in the elementary
level. Students will strengthen musicianship skills, proficiency in instructional planning, and creativity
in preparing teaching aids. Teaching of musical concepts will be learned through a variety of musical
behaviors with regard to specific areas of child development. Individual classroom teaching
demonstrations are expected.
B. Course Outcomes
Apply appropriate music teaching methodologies and materials for K-6
Show advance musicianship in sight singing, playing an instrument, accompanying
songs, and improvisation
Identify the implications of current research and studies in general music as well as in
Kodaly, Dalcroze, and Orff methodologies.
Design creative techniques and innovative materials for teaching music in k-6 based on
conceptual, thematic, or integrated approaches of teaching.
Collect and utilize Philippine folksongs, other Filipino compositions and multicultural
songs applicable to K-6
Participate in professional development activities such as seminar-workshops,
concerts, master class, and outreach programs inside and outside the university.
Promote appreciation of aesthetic and spiritual values of music through self-reflection
and meditation.
E. Course Requirements
Weekly Assignments. Folk song analysis and lesson plans
Online and written course works. Exercises in writing learning outcomes, lesson plans, and
outside readings will be submitted.
Original Video for pre-school music. A 20-minute video presentation employing preparatory
concepts and original music
Teaching Aids. Students will construct five (5) instructional teaching aids.
Teaching Observation. Students will observe at least two off-campus field experiences.
Individual teaching demonstration

G. University Policies
Attendance
Students are expected to come on time regularly to class. Attendance will be checked before
the class begins. Students who are more than 15 minutes late will be marked absent for the
duration of the meeting. In case of absence, whether excused or unexcused, students are
responsible for submitting class requirements when they are due and for updating themselves
regarding missed lectures or announcements of activities made in class. Make-up for missed
tests will be given only upon presentation of a medical certificate or excuse letter signed by the
Office of the Dean. Students are allowed maximum absences of only 20% of the total number
of calendar meetings. Inability to comply with the attendance requirement will result in failure
to absences (FA).
Academic Integrity
It is expected that students will observe academic integrity at all times and in all that they do.
Cheating, plagiarism, misrepresentation, duplicity, and other acts of academic dishonesty will
be penalized according to the guidelines stated in the Student Handbook.
