OUTCOMES
Unit Unit 10: Outcome: Giving, Opinions, and pricing.
Outcomes At the end of this unit, the students will be able to:
1) Demonstrate the use of role shifting.
2) Perform dialogues about the tendency and personalities of others.
3) Recognize the difference between dollars and cents signs
4) Locate and identify the location by using wh-questions, classifiers, and vocabulary from
unit 10.
Lesson Lesson: Telling the price
Outcomes At the end of this lesson, the students will be able to:
1) Recognize the difference between dollars and cents
2) Demonstrate the use of role shifting while discussing item for prices.
3) Identify different between cents and dollars in handshapes, movement, and palm
orientations.
4) Ask and tell cost of items using wh-questions

LESSON PROCEDURE
Activity Description Length
Roll Call/ In circle, teacher fingerspells the last names, the students should rise their 3 mins
Opening hands. Teacher asks, “what did you learn from other classes?” Like/unlike.
Review Making two students to introduce each other, then exchange and go on. 3 mins
Teacher Display Signing Naturally PPT: 15 mins
Directed 1. Ask the students, do you have money? Students give variety of responses.
2. Teacher will show them signs for: BROKE, NO MONEY, YES HAVE.
3. Teacher asks what is that cent? Dollar? (Students should give responses).
4. The teacher will sign for money on the table: penny, nickel, dime, quarter,
5. $1, $5, $10 and $20 as well as flashcards consisting of dollars and cents.
6. Show signs “MONEY, CENT, DOLLAR”
7. Signing: point penny, nickel, dime, quarter.
8. Teacher tells students to pair up; gives them fake money and students tell
each other how much they have in hand. Teacher observes students signing
skills relating to money signs.
9. Teacher shows PowerPoint with the picture of objects and their prices.
10. Teacher tells students to pair up; students are given flashcards consisting
of objects (candy, gum, shirt, etc...) and telling the price for each
11. Students are directed to ask each other COST HOW MUCH for each
object.
12. Teacher will ask class question: Coach Purse, EXPENSIVE, CHEAP
using an example of “Role Shifting”
Guided Teacher will demonstrate dialogue: 10 mins
Practice paired dialogue for each:
1) CENT (2 minutes practice)
2) DOLLAR (2 minutes practice)
3) Telling the price to objects (2 minutes practice)
4) Asking COST HOW MUCH (2 minutes practice)
5) WH- Questions (2minutes practice)
Lesson Plan
Students practice describing what happened to each other.
Teacher moves among students and assesses student work. When done,
teacher reviews the CENT and DOLLAR procedure, points out common
errors seen during guided practice and explains how to do them correctly.
Independent Students will get in groups of 3. Teacher give student handouts. Students 10 mins
Practice take turns asking each other.
Telling: price to objects.
Asking: COST HOW MUCH to objects.
Cultural Return to classroom. Watch the video about the story of the stores, and 5 mins
Application analyze for money, grammar, role shifting and objects. Pause video
frequently and ask class questions about the story.
Closure Quickly ask students to share what they’ve learned during class. Explain 4 mins
upcoming assignment. Answer questions. Dismiss class.
Assessment Informal: During paired and group activities, use informal assessment N/A
techniques such as asking to repeat, observe, show puzzled-face, washback,
etc.
Formal: Submit 30 seconds – 1-minute video via Go React discussing their
telling and asking with the prices to objects. Must include topicalization wh-
word question, role shifting, evaluate using a rubric (attached).
Accommodations Work with Office of Students with Disabilities. PowerPoint should include N/A
white or yellow background and also large fonts for the students with low
vision.
