SCADA

Main Components of SCADA system

 Supervisory (Computer ) System : Base system -Servers, software (SCADA ,
operating system)
 HMI – Human Machine Interface : Controller Workstations
 RTUs- Remote Terminal Units
 Communication network between RTUs & Supervisory System

Phase I SCADA
Line 1 – ABB Micro SCADA
Line 2 – Eliop (Spain)
Line 3 – ABB Micro SCADA

 Data Exchange between new SCADA servers at Shastri Park & Metro Bhawan on 100
Mbps link

Features of SCADA
 Communication interface : protocols IEC -870-5-101, 61850, MODBUS for energy
meters
 Communication medium : Fiber optic network
 Event logging 1ms resolution

SCADA SYSTEM OPERATION

 TELESIGNAL – monitor the status of equipments
 TELECOMMAND – control of equipments
 MEASURANDS – measure the field data

FEP: Front End Processor

COMMUNICATION

 Optical fiber network of S&T department is used for communication of RTU with OCC
and back-up control centre.
 Communication Protocol :
Phase-1

Line-1 : RP570
Line-2 : IEC-101
Line-3 : RP570
Phase-2 : IEC-101

Coloration Logic:
Green : Charged
Red : No supply
Yellow : Earthed

DI Card (23 BE 21)

 This card is used to collect the status of the sub-station equipments e.g. close/open
status, SF6 gas status, Local/Remote status, Protection relay status etc.
 The binary input module 23 BE 21 is used to connect binary process signals
 Scanning and processing of all the inputs are done with high time resolution of 1msec.
 23BE21 can process the following type of signals:
 16 single indications with time stamp
 8 double indications with time stamp
 Works at a supply voltage of 48V DC

DO Card (23 BA 20)

 This card is used to execute close/open command to the circuit breakers, isolators etc.
 The binary output module is used for the output of 16 binary signals to the process
 Total 16 Nos. Command can be executed from one card .
 16 output are combined in 2 groups. Each group has got a common return
 Duration of output pulse is software configurable and can vary from 100 msec. to 25.5
sec
 output voltage + 24 ..... + 60 V DC
 The groups are potentially isolated from one another and form the system
 High switching capacity is achieved using interposing relays of suitable rating

A/I card (23 AE 21)

 Eight analog inputs
The eight inputs are scanned and processed in a cycle of 580 msec (main frequency =
50 Hz.)
 Possible input value ranges are
Current
4..20 mA
Voltage
0..+/- 1 V
0..10 V
 A single module supports all the above ranges.
 The module firmware carry out a number of process functions which can be freely
configured for each measured value.
 Each input has got a differential connection.
 The differential inputs are protected against static and dynamic over voltages by a
protection circuit.

CPU CARD 23ZG21

 Central Control Unit

80486 based working Processor (VAP)
 8752 based Peripheral Bus Processor (PBP)
 Reading process events from the input boards.
 Writing commands to the output boards.
 Serial communication with central systems

COM A : OCC
COM B : S/BY CONTROL
CENTRE
NFK : S/BY CONTROL
CENTRE
SCADA Software
1. OCC/SHPK and MB : ABB MicroSCADA Pro 9.3
2. RSS of phase-2 : ABB MicroSCADA Pro 9.2
3. KG/RSS & RI/RSS : ABB MicroSCADA Classic
4. SN/RSS & DW/RSS : ABB MicroSCADA Pro 9.1
5. ND/RSS and KG/FP : ELIOP Sherpa

ALARM MANAGEMENT IN SCADA

Alarm type Color Remarks

Active Red Alarm is still persisting in field and
unacknowledged not acknowledged by TPC

Active acknowledged Blue Alarm is still persisting in field but

acknowledged by TPC
Inactive Green These are fleeting alarms i.e.
unacknowledged becomes normal. Inactive
unacknowledged alarms remain in
black color. After
acknowledgement, these alarms
disappear from the list.
Communication related Yellow Communication alarms
alarms
Audio-Blocked alarms Orange Alarms on which audio is disabled
