FOREWORD
It is with great pleasure that we introduce the third edition of the Sweden-
India Business Guide. Since the first guide was published three years ago,
the number of Swedish companies established in India has risen from 56
to 85, an increase of over 50 percent. During the same period, Swedish
companies have made substantial investments in the country. Leading
companies such as ABB, Ericsson, IKEA, SKF, Sandvik, Atlas Copco, Volvo
and AstraZeneca are expanding heavily in India by setting up new
manufacturing plants and global R&D centres, thus reinforcing the
traditional Swedish emphasis on quality and innovation. The healthy
trend of Indian companies establishing themselves in Sweden, either by
way of acquiring existing companies or by setting up branch offices, has
also continued during the past year.
Bilateral trade between Sweden and India reached approximately 1.9

Billion US dollars in 2006. Swedish exports to India grew by an impressive
42 percent, whereas Indian exports to Sweden also have grown at a
lower but steady pace.
Looking ahead, the prospects for 2007 are very encouraging indeed.
Both the Swedish and Indian economies are star performers in their
respective regions and we foresee that many more Swedish companies

will enter the Indian market. Retail, construction & infrastructure and
aerospace are among the high-potential sectors for Swedish
companies. Clean technology and renewable energy are also sectors
where Sweden has an edge.

SWEDEN-INDIA FUTURE BUSINESS EXPECTATIONS
Both Swedish companies in India and Indian companies in Sweden

are reporting on growth in all aspects, such as turnover, volumes
and investments. During the next financial year, the largest Swedish
companies in India (by turnover) estimate that their investments in
India will increase by 16% to approximately US$ 200 million. The
investments among the Swedish companies that primarily are
sourcing in India are estimated to grow by 32% to US$ 20 million
during the next financial year.
