Activity 2: How Big is your Carbon Footprint?

Objectives
 At the end of the activity, you should be able to:
- calculate your personal carbon emission.
- take an action to lessen the carbon emission in various ways.

Materials
 Carbon Footprint Checklist
 Manila Paper, Marker, Crayons

Procedures

1. Each member will answer the Carbon footprint checklist (see attached checklist) and compute each
carbon emission. Get the total score and see the description of your score.

2. Each group should present a line graph on Manila paper. (Note: Use crayons to represent each
member’s carbon emission. Get the group’s over-all score of carbon emission.

a. Which member has the highest carbon footprint? _______________________________

b. Which member has the lowest carbon footprint? _______________________________

c. What is the average carbon footprint of the group? _____________________________

d. What is the highest source/s of carbon emission of the group? _________________________

e. What is the lowest source/s of carbon emission of the group? __________________________

3. Each group should choose the top 2 highest sources of carbon emission. Then, the groups will provide
ways to lessen the carbon emission.

How Big is your Carbon Footprint?

Carbon Footprint Checklist

Instruction: Evaluate your carbon emission.

I use water wisely.
I eat a mixture of meat and vegetable meals.
We use kerosene lamp or low energy light bulbs at home.
I use basin in washing our dishes.
I eat locally grown food.
I turn off electric appliances or battery-operated gadgets
instead of leaving them on standby.
I eat organic foods.
I use reusable bags when buying things from the market.
I avoid eating ready meals. (e.g. noodles, sardines etc.)
I use recycled notebooks and papers.
I throw my biodegradable wastes into a compost pit.
I replace my toy or gadget when it stops working rather
than just to get the most up-to-date model.
I always know where my food or products are made.
I give the clothes I have outgrown to charity or to my
siblings and friends.
I throw my trash into the garbage bin or bag.
I prefer to walk if the place I want to go is near.
I do recycling at home.
I do recycling in school.
I walk on the way to school.
I share a ride (public transport/private car) on the way to
school.

OVER-ALL SCORE

Interpretation:

20 – 30: Be happy! You are a Climate Hero! Keep up the good work.
31 – 45: It’s Alright! You can still do more to be a Climate Hero.
46 – 60: Don’t be sad. Just start to reduce your carbon footprint. Do it now.
