In 1991, the Philippine Government passed the Campus Journalism Act, one of the strongest laws
which supports the development and promotion of student journalism, rights of youth, and preserving
the integrity of student publications. The law states that anyone who obstructs or coerces any student
publication and a student journalist shall be penalized (youthincmag.com).
Partaking in this activity, our school, BNHS formed its own school paper organization named
“Ang Pintig”. This organization, like any other media, has the following functions.
Aid to students:
h. Provides and outlet for students’ suggestions for the betterment of the school.
With the aim of achieving the goals of the organization, the following activities
were done with the supervision of the coordinators.
I. Organizing of Staff
As early as June, the school paper coordinators are already screening
learners’ journal writing capabilities in order to come up with good line-up of
staff. Students who are interested to join the club are given the task to write an
article related to their area of interest. The teacher assigned to the category then
carefully selected the student journalist best fitted to the category. From there, the
school paper staff was then formulated. See attached sheet.
