Airbus Helicopters supports the work of the International Helicopter Safety Foundation (former IHST). Since its
creation in 2006, the IHSF’s regional partners have analyzed over 1,000 accidents to determine the root causes
and the best means of prevention.

Every year, the IHSF leads a survey to assess the efficiency of its actions and confirm the direction to take. This
survey is the key to provide data-driven recommendations and to match their use with accident counts,
demonstrating their effectiveness.

The IHSF’s key recommendations relate to Safety Management Systems (SMS), training, systems and equipment,
and maintenance practices. Past survey results showed that the operators who have implemented these
recommendations have the best safety records.

If you have not already completed the IHSF’s 2019 global safety survey, please complete the survey. With only 12
questions, this survey won’t take more than a few minutes.

Even if nothing has changed since they completed the survey, we need operators to answer the survey every year,
so that we can have an increasing level of participation and monitor changes in participant use of the IHSF’s key
recommendations.

Thanks to strong promotion by HAI, EHA, Vertical Flight Society (AHS), the major manufacturers and the IOGP,
participation in the 2018 global safety survey was 76% more than previous years. The results showed a very
promising increase in the use of the IHSF’s key recommendations and a strong correlation between low accident
counts and the types of helicopter operations with the highest use of those recommendations.
