BUSI 2208C Introduction to Marketing

Fall 2019

Formatting Information for

Group Assignment #2

1. Cover page. At a minimum, this page should include a title for your report, all group
members’ full names (spelled correctly; you don’t need to include student numbers), the
course name and code, and the date of submission. Your cover page should be designed
to make your report look inviting to read.
2. Table of contents. Major sections of your marketing plan, including major subheadings
should appear in the table of contents. Use the ‘Table of Contents’ function in MS Word
(under the ‘References’ tab). This will provide hot links to section headings and also
allow you to update your table of contents as you edit your work.
3. Body of the report. Sequence the sections of your marketing plan to follow the grading
rubric for the full marketing plan.
4. List of references. All sources discussed and/or cited in your marketing plan should appear
in your references list. References should be listed in alphabetical order, by the first
author’s surname. Please use Chicago author/date style inline references (see link to the
Chicago Manual of Style on the course cuLearn site). The references page should appear
before any appendices.
5. Appendices: Appendices should be given a number/letter and a title, e.g., Appendix A:
SWOT Analysis. They should appear in the same order as they are discussed in the body
of the report. Typically, each appendix will appear on a new page. The exception would
be if you have tables where it would be useful for comparison purposes to put two
appendices on the same page. Tables and Forms to be included in Appendices:
a. Internal & External Environmental Analyses (SWOT)
b. Segmentation Grid (include justification for numbers) and Perceptual Map
c. Strategic Alternatives, including projections of costs and revenues
d. Recommendation Decision Grid and mini-SWOT table
e. Implementation Timeline
f. Group Contract
g. Declaration of Academic Integrity
6. Include page numbers. The cover page should not have a page number displayed. All
pages appearing before the first page of the body of the report (e.g., table of contents) are
numbered in lower case, roman numerals. The first page of the body of the report
(typically, starting with the Executive Summary) is page one. If you need help with
formatting page numbers in MS Word, watch this video:

7. Headings and Subheadings. Use headings and subheadings to allow the reader to skim
quickly through the document. Standardize how you format your headings and

1
subheadings. A heading/subheading should NEVER be the last line on any page (try
using the ‘widows/orphans’ feature of MS Word to prevent this, or insert a page break).
o The various sections of the marketing plan discussed in the grading rubric should
be indicated by major headings.
8. Paragraph Formatting. Either indent the first line of all new paragraphs, or leave a blank
line in between paragraphs. Whatever you decide, keep the same formatting throughout
the report.
9. Font & Spacing. Use Times New Roman, 12 point font for body text, and double-space.
Please print on one side of the page only.
10. Numbers. Numbers under 10 are spelled out except in certain usages:
o Use numerals with percent signs (5%), units of measurement (5 cm. long), money
($5), and in mathematical contexts (e.g., when reporting a formula).
o Always spell out numbers that begin a sentence, e.g., Sixteen students were
interviewed.
11. Peer Evaluations. If your group is using peer evaluations, you may hand these in
separately (e.g., they don’t need to stapled to your assignment or included within the
same document folder).
12. Remember to proof read and spell check your report!
