ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research is to determine the level of awareness of the

personnel working at the Port of Lipata in detecting Human trafficking cases. The

Port of Lipata, Surigao City has been identified as one of the human-smuggling

transit points in the Mindanao. The researcher floated a survey type questionnaire

asking the profile of the respondents and to their level of awareness in Detecting

Human Trafficking Cases at the Port of Lipata, Surigao City. It is sought also to

answer the following: 1.) Are the port personnel aware on the existence of RA

9208 Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 as amended by 10364 Expanded Anti-

Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012? 2.) Are the subject personnel aware of the

different forms of trafficking? 3. ) Are the personnel aware on where to report

incidence of Trafficking in Persons? 4. ) Are the personnel aware on what

protection and assistance may be given to trafficked persons?

Based on the results, this paper recommends that concerned government

agencies/NGOs should introduce intervention programs to the personnel working

at the Port of Lipata to help increase their knowledge and level of awareness in

detecting human trafficking cases. Likewise, it is highly recommended also that a

standard monitoring mechanism shall implemented to properly monitor and

document cases at the Port of Lipata.
