Subject: Invitation to NTU Bridge Design Competition 2020

Dear Sir/Madam,

We are pleased to invite Civil Engineering Students to participate in NTU Bridge Design
Competition ​2020​. Bridge Design Competition, or in short: BDC, is an annual international
competition organized by Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Club, Nanyang
Technological University (NTU), Singapore. BDC emphasizes on challenging students in
structural design and engineering sense, especially on designing a bridge. For the past few years,
BDC has been attracting many participants, not only from Singapore, but also from Southeast
Asian countries like Malaysia and Indonesia.

NTU Bridge Design Competition 2020 will be held on ​March 7-8, 2020. Each university may
send ​up to 5 teams ​with a first come first serve basis​. There will be two (2) categories in this
competition, namely Polytechnic and University. Participants are required to form ​a team of two
with one of them being the team leader. Each team is expected to design a bridge structure based
on their own creativity following certain guidelines/requirements provided. Every team would
have to construct a 3D-model of the bridge based on their design, using provided materials (balsa
wood, bass wood, and hot glue). The bridge model will then go through a series of assessment,
namely: ​load testing, presentation, aesthetic assessment, time consumption, and economical &
sustainability assessment​. The top 5 teams of each category with the highest overall score will be
taken as the winners.

Date : 7th and 8th March, 2020 (Saturday and Sunday)

★ 1​st​ Prize : SGD 600 + certificates
★ 2​nd​ Prize : SGD 400 + certificates
★ 3​rd​ Prize : SGD 200 + certificates
★ 4​th​ Prize : SGD 150 + certificates
★ 5th Prize : SGD 100 + certificates
★ Most Popular Design : SGD 50 + certificates
★ Best Presentation : SGD 50 + certificates
★ Most Efficient : SGD 50 + certificates

Registration Fee : SGD 35/team [inclusive of T-shirts and meals (lunch for 7 March,
lunch and dinner for 8 March)]
Registration Period :13th January 2020 (Monday), 10:00 SGT to 9th February, 2020
(Sunday), 23:59 SGT

Accommodation in Singapore (for overseas participants)

The organizer does not provide any accommodation for participants, which means that
accommodation will be at your own cost. One option is the hotel inside NTU, Nanyang
