assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil
conscience,
and our bodies washed with pure water.
Jeremiah
17:5 Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that
trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart
departeth
from the Lord.
6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see
when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the
wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
Romans 4:4 What then shall we say that Abraham our father
found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified
has
by
works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and
it was accounted to him for righteousness.” 4 Now to him who
works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,

to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:

“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
And whose sins are covered;

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.”

4:13 For the promise that he would be the heir of the
world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but
through
the righteousness of faith. 14 For if those who are of the
law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no
effect, 15 because the law brings about wrath; for where there is
no law there is no transgression.
16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed,

The Spirit Filled Life Bible Commentary: Faith occurs when we
cease trying to do something by our own efforts, and trust
someone else to do it for us. Faith is the one attitude that is
exactly opposite of trusting ourselves. Apparently this is why God decided that faith would be the attitude of heart by which we could obtain salvation, that it might be according to grace, that is, that it might be an entirely free gift of God, not dependent on any merit of our own.

made void and the promise made of no effect…
Andrew Wommack Ministries Bible Commentary:
Note 2 at Ro 4:14: We are either justified by faith in our
works without faith in Christ or we are justified by faith in Christ without faith in our works, but not a combination of the two (Ro 11:6). Trusting in our own goodness as the reason that God would grant us salvation neutralizes faith and renders God's promise to Abraham useless…
Andrew Wommack Ministries Bible Commentary:
There
are Christians who have put their faith in Christ for their
eternal salvation, but then they fall back into the deception that
God is going to bless them and use them based on their
performance. This is what happened to the Galatians. Paul told
them that Christ had become of no benefit to them if they were trusting in what they did in order to be justified with God (Ga 5:4). Likewise today, many Christians do not experience the full effect of their salvation because they are making faith void by trusting in their own goodness.
Galatians 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever
of
you
are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by
faith.
6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor
uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
Ephesians 3:14 14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father
of
our
Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven
and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the
riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His
Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts
through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may
be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:20 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly
abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power
that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus
to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

The promises of God are not based on your performance, they are
based on Jesus’ performance.
The more righteous-conscious you are, the more the blessings of God freely flow in your life.
