I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to;

1) Determine the center and radius of an equation of a circle in center-radius form; and
2) graph the equation of a circle in center-radius form.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic : Equation of a Circle in Center-Radius Form
B. Reference : Mathematics Learner’s Module Grade 10
C. Materials : Laptop and Projector
D. Values Integration : Importance of Education

III. Instructional Procedure

A. Routine Activities
1) Checking of the cleanliness of the classroom
2) Checking of Attendance
B. Drill
Multiplication of Integers

C. Review
- Review of Functions and Non Functions
D. Motivation
Activity: Math Hugot
- The teacher will show different Hugot Lines related to Math and
the students will determine what concept is related to it.

1) Aasa pa ba magtatagpo tayo? Answer: Parallel Lines

2) Ang love story ninyo ay parang ________. Answer: Asymptotic

Naging sobrang close kayo pero never Lines
na magiging kayo.

3) Para kang ________, dumating pero hinde Answer: Tangent Line

nagtagal.

D. Lesson Proper

1) Preparatory Activity:

The graph of the equation of (x – 4)2 + (y – 7)2 = 32

a) What is the radius of the equation of the circle?
b) What is the center of the equation of the circle?
c) Observe the equation of the circle. What is the relationship between the equation
and the graph?
d) How do we graph the equation of the circle?

E. Instructional Procedure

1) Presentation of the equation of the circle in center-radius form.

2) Graphing the equation of the circle in center-radius form.

Example 1. Determine the center and radius of the equation of the

circle (x – 2)2 + (y – 1)2 = 16. Then graph it on the
Cartesian Plane.

Example 2. Determine the center and radius of the equation of

the circle (x + 4)2 + y2 = 9. Then graph it on the Cartesian Plane.
Example 3. Determine the center and radius of the equation of
the circle (x + 3)2 + (y + 2)2 = 4. Then graph it on the Cartesian
Plane (Student’s Activity).

3) Finding the equation of the circle given its graph.

Example 4. Determine the equation of the circle below.

Example 5. Determine the equation of the circle below.

Example 6. Determine the equation of the circle below.

(Student’s Activity)
F. Generalization
The equation of a circle in center-radius form is represented as (x – h)2 + (y – k)2 = r2
where (h, k) is the center of the circle and r is its radius

IV. Evaluation
A. Graph the equation below:
1) (x – 4)2 + (y – 3)2 = 4
2) x2 + y2 = 9
3) (x + 3)2 = (y + 4)2 = 16

B. Determine the equation of the graph.

4) 5)
