Translation Chapter al-Ahqaaf
Chapter al-Ahqaaf (46) (46)
﴾١﴿ ‫“ حم‬The decree is issued for the confused
and anxiously seeking minds
﴾٢﴿ ‫يز ال َح ِك ِيم‬ْ ْ َّ
ِ ‫ب ِمنَ اللـ ِه ال َع ِز‬ ْ
ِ ‫َنزي ُل ال ِكتَا‬ ِ ‫( ت‬Haamma* – ‫)حمم‬ ٰ (1). It is the
revelation (tanzeel – ‫ )تنزیل‬from God,
the Almighty and the Wise, of the
Book/divine writ (al-kitab – ‫)الکتاب‬
(2). We have not created the Cosmic
ِّ ‫ض َو َما بَ ْينَهُ َما إِ ََّّل بِ ْال َح‬
‫ق‬ َ ْ‫ت َو ْاْلَر‬ ِ ‫اوا‬ َ ‫ َما خَ لَ ْقنَا ال َّس َم‬bodies (samawaat – ‫ )سماوات‬and the
earth and all that exists in between
‫َوأَ َج ٍل ُّم َس ًّمى ۚ َوالَّ ِذينَ َكفَرُوا َع َّما أُن ِذرُوا‬
those entities except as the genuine
reality, and the decreed term of which
﴾٣﴿ َ‫ْرضُون‬ ِ ‫ ُمع‬is well-known (ajalim-musamma – ‫اجل‬
‫ ;) ُمس ّمی‬and those who reject the
warnings delivered to them, turn
‫ قُلْ أَ َرأَ ْيتُم َّما تَ ْد ُعونَ ِمن ُدو ِن اللَّـ ِه أَرُونِي َما َذا خَ لَقُوا‬away from this reality. (3) Ask them,
“Have you pondered over those things
‫ت ۚ ا ْئتُونِي‬ ِ ‫اوا‬ َ ‫ك فِي ال َّس َم‬ ٌ ْ‫ض أَ ْم لَهُ ْم ِشر‬ ِ ْ‫ ِمنَ ْاْلَر‬to which you invite people instead of
God? Show me as to what have they
‫ار ٍة ِّم ْن ِع ْل ٍم إِن ُكنتُ ْم‬
َ َ‫ب ِّمن قَب ِْل هَ ٰـ َذا أَوْ أَث‬ ٍ ‫ بِ ِكتَا‬created on Earth; is there any share
for them in the creation of celestial
﴾٤﴿ َ‫صا ِدقِين‬ َ bodies? Can you bring me a Decree
(kitaabin – ‫ )کتاب‬before this, or any
trace or remnant of knowledge
َّ
ُ‫ون اللـ ِه َمن َّل يَ ْست َِجيب‬ َّ ِ ‫ضلُّ ِم َّمن يَ ْد ُعو ِمن ُد‬ َ
َ ‫ َو َم ْن أ‬thereof, if you are truthful (4)? And
who stands in more distracted than
ُ ْ َ َ
﴾٥﴿ َ‫ لهُ إِل ٰى يَوْ ِم القِيَا َم ِة َوهُ ْم عَن ُدعَائِ ِه ْم غَافِلون‬those who invoke other than God who
shall not even respond to them until
the time of “establishment of the
Final Stage” (youmil Qiyamati – ‫یوم‬
‫ )القیامۃ‬of life, and even then, they
َ
‫ُش َر النَّاسُ َكانُوا لَهُ ْم أ ْعدَا ًّء َو َكانُوا بِ ِعبَا َدتِ ِه ْم‬ ِ ‫ َوإِ َذا ح‬would still be unconscious of their
calls (5). And when the humanity will
﴾٦﴿ َ‫ َكافِ ِرين‬be assembled, they would act for them
as adversaries (a’daa’a – ‫ )اعداء‬and
would refuse to acknowledge their

ِّ ‫ال الَّ ِذينَ َكفَرُوا لِ ْل َح‬
‫ق‬ ٍ ‫َوإِ َذا تُ ْتلَ ٰى َعلَ ْي ِه ْم آيَاتُنَا بَيِّنَا‬
َ َ‫ت ق‬ obedience (6)”. But when our clear
messages are read to them these
ٌ ِ‫لَ َّما َجا َءهُ ْم هَ ٰـ َذا ِسحْ ٌر ُّمب‬
﴾٧﴿ ‫ين‬ deniers of truth call the truth as came
to them, an open deception (7). Or
َ‫أَ ْم يَقُولُونَ ا ْفت ََراهُ ۚ قُلْ إِ ِن ا ْفت ََر ْيتُهُ فَ ََل تَ ْملِ ُكونَ لِي ِمن‬ they would say “He has invented it”.
Tell them, “If I have invented it, then
‫اللَّـ ِه َش ْيئًّا ۚ هُ َو أَ ْعلَ ُم بِ َما تُفِيضُونَ فِي ِه ۚ َكفَ ٰى بِ ِه‬ you too possess no authority that
could support me against the
ِ ‫َش ِهيدًّا بَ ْينِي َوبَ ْينَ ُك ْم ۚ َوهُ َو ْال َغفُو ُر الر‬
﴾٨﴿ ‫َّحي ُم‬ authority of God; He is aware of that
which you are overflowing with;
between you and me He stands as a
sufficient witness, and He is the sole
provider of protection and mercy
‫نت بِ ْدعًّا ِّمنَ الرُّ س ُِل َو َما أَ ْد ِري َما يُ ْف َع ُل بِي‬
ُ ‫قُلْ َما ُك‬ (8).” Tell them, :”I am not the first
one of His messengers and I have no
‫ي َو َما أَنَا إِ ََّّل نَ ِذي ٌر‬
َّ َ‫َو ََّل بِ ُك ْم ۚ إِ ْن أَتَّبِ ُع إِ ََّّل َما يُو َح ٰى إِل‬ knowledge of what is going to be done
to me or to you; I do not obey except
ٌ ِ‫ُّمب‬
﴾٩﴿ ‫ين‬ what is revealed to me and I am
nobody except an eloquent
warner”(9). Tell them: “Have you
‫قُلْ أَ َرأَ ْيتُ ْم إِن َكانَ ِم ْن ِعن ِد اللَّـ ِه َو َكفَرْ تُم بِ ِه َو َش ِه َد‬ given it a thought that if it actually
were from God and yet you continued
َ‫يل َعلَ ٰى ِم ْثلِ ِه فَآ َمن‬
َ ِ‫َشا ِه ٌد ِّمن بَنِي إِس َْرائ‬ rejecting it – though a witness from
Israelites have testified over an
‫َوا ْستَ ْكبَرْ تُ ْم ۚ إِ َّن اللَّـهَ ََّل يَ ْه ِدي ْالقَوْ َم‬ identical divine writ and he had
believed in it – and you still have
﴾١٠﴿ َ‫الظَّالِ ِمين‬ behaved insolently, then, indeed God
does not guide the community of
unjust people (10)”. And the deniers
‫ال الَّ ِذينَ َكفَرُوا لِلَّ ِذينَ آ َمنُوا لَوْ َكانَ َخ ْيرًّا َّما َسبَقُونَا‬
َ َ‫َوق‬
of truth said to the people of faith,
“Had it been of any virtue, they
ٌ ‫إِلَ ْي ِه ۚ َوإِ ْذ لَ ْم يَ ْهتَ ُدوا بِ ِه فَ َسيَقُولُونَ هَ ٰـ َذا إِ ْف‬
‫ك‬
would not have taken lead over us
(ma sabaquna – ‫ )ما سبقونا‬in accepting
﴾١١﴿ ‫قَ ِدي ٌم‬
it”; and if they totally refuse to be
guided by it, they would say, “This
ٌ‫َو ِمن قَ ْبلِ ِه ِكتَابُ ُمو َس ٰى إِ َما ًّما َو َرحْ َمةًّ ۚ َوهَ ٰـ َذا ِكتَاب‬ but is an ancient falsehood”(11). And
before this there was the Book of
‫ق لِّ َسانًّا َع َربِيًّا لِّيُن ِذ َر الَّ ِذينَ ظَلَ ُموا َوبُ ْش َر ٰى‬
ٌ ‫ص ِّد‬
َ ‫ُّم‬ Moses, a guide and a mercy; and then
this Book, an attester in an elaborate
language, for warning those who

﴾١٢﴿ َ‫ لِ ْل ُمحْ ِسنِين‬exploited humans and a good tiding
for those doing good to the people
َ ُ َّ ُ َّ
ٌ ْ‫( إِ َّن ال ِذينَ قَالوا َربُّنَا اللـهُ ث َّم ا ْستَقَا ُموا فَ ََل خَ و‬12).
‫ف َعل ْي ِه ْم‬ Of course, those who
acknowledged God as their Sustainer
﴾١٣﴿ َ‫ َو ََّل هُ ْم يَحْ زَ نُون‬and remained steadfast thereafter,
there is no fear for them and nor shall
ْ َ ُ
‫ أولَ ٰـئِكَ أصْ َحابُ ال َجنَّ ِة خَ الِ ِدينَ فِيهَا َجزَ ا ًّء بِ َما َكانُوا‬they grieve(13): such are entitled for
the life of peace and protection, living
ُ
﴾١٤﴿ َ‫ يَ ْع َملون‬therein forever, as reward for their
accomplishments (14).

‫اْلن َسانَ بِ َوالِ َد ْي ِه إِحْ َسانًّا ۚ َح َملَ ْتهُ أُ ُّمهُ ُكرْ هًّا‬ ِ ْ ‫ص ْينَا‬ َّ ‫ َو َو‬And We have advised the human
being to be kind to his parents, as his
ُ
َ‫صالهُ ثَ ََلثون‬ ُ ُ
َ ِ‫ض َع ْتهُ ُكرْ هًّا ۚ َو َح ْملهُ َوف‬ َ ‫ َو َو‬mother bore him in pain and in pain
did she give him birth; and her
ِّ‫ال َرب‬ َ َ
َ َ‫ َش ْهرًّا ۚ َحتَّ ٰى إِ َذا بَلَ َغ أ ُش َّدهُ َوبَلَ َغ أرْ بَ ِعينَ َسنَةًّ ق‬bearing him and his utter dependence
on her lasted for thirty months; and
‫ي َو َعلَ ٰى‬ َّ َ‫ أَوْ ِز ْعنِي أَ ْن أَ ْش ُك َر نِ ْع َمتَكَ الَّتِي أَ ْن َع ْمتَ َعل‬so when he reached his maturity and
reached 40 years of age, he says: “O
‫ضاهُ َوأَصْ لِحْ لِي فِي‬ َ ْ‫صالِحًّا تَر‬ َ ‫ي َوأَ ْن أَ ْع َم َل‬ َّ ‫ َوالِ َد‬Sustainer, inspire me so that I may
thank you for your blessings which
﴾١٥﴿ َ‫ْت إِلَ ْيكَ َوإِنِّي ِمنَ ْال ُم ْسلِ ِمين‬ ُ ‫ ُذرِّ يَّتِي ۚ إِنِّي تُب‬you graced me with and my parents
and so that I work for reform and
progress meeting your acceptance,
and grant righteousness in my
offspring as well. I have turned to
you and I am of those who have
surrendered and submitted to you
ُ‫اوز‬ ُ َ ْ َّ َ
َ ‫( أول ٰـئِكَ ال ِذينَ نَتَقَبَّ ُل َعنهُ ْم أحْ َسنَ َما َع ِملوا َونَت ََج‬15). These are the people amongُ
dwellers of Paradise whose acts of
َّ
‫ق ال ِذي‬ ِ ‫ب ال َجن ِة ۚ َو ْع َد الصِّ ْد‬ َّ ْ َ
ِ ‫ عَن َسيِّئَاتِ ِه ْم فِي أصْ َحا‬goodness we do accept and whose
misdeeds we shall overlook, in
﴾١٦﴿ َ‫ َكانُوا يُو َع ُدون‬fulfillment of the true promise which
they were given (16). And about the
ُ َ
‫ف ل ُك َما أتَ ِعدَانِنِي أ ْن أ ْخ َر َج َوقَ ْد‬ َ َّ ُ َّ
َ َ‫ َوال ِذي ق‬one who expresses disgust upon his
ٍّ ‫ال لِ َوالِ َد ْي ِه أ‬
parents saying, “Do you both promise
‫ان اللـهَ َو ْيلَكَ آ ِم ْن‬ َّ ِ َ‫ُون ِمن قَ ْبلِي َوهُ َما يَ ْستَ ِغيث‬ ُ ‫ت القر‬ ُ ْ ِ َ‫ خَ ل‬me that I will come back while so
many generations have passed before
‫اطي ُر‬ َ
ِ ‫ق فَيَقُو ُل َما هَ ٰـ َذا إِ ََّّل أ َس‬ َّ
ٌّ ‫ إِ َّن َو ْع َد اللـ ِه َح‬me?” And they both pray for God’s
help saying, “Woe be upon you,

﴾١٧﴿ َ‫ ْاْلَ َّولِين‬believe that God’s promise is true”;
he then answers, “What is all that
ْ َ ُ
‫ق َعل ْي ِه ُم القَوْ ُل فِي أ َم ٍم قَ ْد خَ لت ِمن‬ ْ َ َّ َ ُ
َّ ‫ أول ٰـئِكَ ال ِذينَ َح‬except fables of the past “(17). These
are the people in the communities
‫نس ۚ إِنهُ ْم َكانُوا‬ َّ ِ ‫اْل‬ ْ ْ
ِ ‫ قَ ْبلِ ِهم ِّمنَ ال ِجنِّ َو‬that have passed before them,
consisting of powerful and common
﴾١٨﴿ َ‫اس ِرين‬ ِ َ‫ خ‬men, upon whom the sentence has
fallen due. Indeed they were the
َ ِّ
‫ات ِّم َّما َع ِملوا ۚ َولِي َُوفيَهُ ْم أ ْع َمالَهُ ْم َوهُ ْم ََّل‬ ُ ٌ ‫ َولِ ُكلٍّ د ََر َج‬losers (18). And there are ranks and
degrees based on how they have
ْ
﴾١٩﴿ َ‫ يُظلَ ُمون‬performed, and He will certainly
repay them in full for their
accomplishments, and their merit will
‫ار أَ ْذهَ ْبتُ ْم طَيِّبَاتِ ُك ْم‬ِ َّ ‫ن‬ ‫ال‬ ‫ى‬ َ ‫ل‬‫ع‬َ ‫ُوا‬ ‫ر‬ َ ‫ف‬ َ
‫ك‬ ‫ذ‬ َّ ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ‫ْر‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ي‬ ‫م‬ ‫ي‬
َ‫ َ َوْ َ ُ َ ضُ ِ ين‬not be ignored (19). And the time‫و‬
when the deniers of truth will be
‫اب‬ َ َ ْ‫ج‬ ُ ْ َ ُ ْ َ َ ْ
َ ‫ فِي َحيَاتِك ُم الدنيَا َواست ْمتعتم بِهَا فاليَوْ َم ت زوْ نَ َعذ‬brought before the fire and told, “You ْ ُّ ُ
have let go of your goodness in your
ِّ‫ض بِ َغي ِْر ْال َحق‬ َ ْ
ِ ْ‫ُون بِ َما كنت ْم ت ْستكبِرُونَ فِي اْلر‬ ْ َ َ ُ ُ ْ
ِ ‫ اله‬worldly life, and you enjoyed it fully,
therefore, today you will be repaid by
ُ ْ ُ ُ
﴾٢٠﴿ َ‫ َوبِ َما كنت ْم تَف ُسقون‬a tortuous punishment on account of
your unjustified haughtiness on the
Earth, and on account of your
criminal conduct (20).”
ِ َ‫اف َوقَ ْد خَ ل‬
‫ت‬ ِ َ‫َو ْاذ ُكرْ أَخَ ا عَا ٍد إِ ْذ أَن َذ َر قَوْ َمهُ بِ ْاْلَحْ ق‬
And do remember the brother from
the tribe of Aad when warned his
‫النُّ ُذ ُر ِمن بَي ِْن يَ َد ْي ِه َو ِم ْن خَ ْلفِ ِه أَ ََّّل تَ ْعبُ ُدوا إِ ََّّل اللَّـهَ إِنِّي‬
people in the long winding sand hills
﴾٢١﴿ ‫َظ ٍيم‬ ِ ‫اب يَوْ ٍم ع‬ َ ‫اف َعلَ ْي ُك ْم َع َذ‬ ُ َ‫( أَخ‬bil-ahqaaf – ‫ – )باالحقاف‬and warner
had come and gone before and after
him – not to obey anyone except God,
and that I am afraid that you may
َ‫ قَالُوا أَ ِج ْئتَنَا لِتَأْفِ َكنَا ع َْن آلِهَتِنَا فَأْتِنَا بِ َما تَ ِع ُدنَا إِن ُكنت‬face the torment of a great coming
time (youmin ‘azeem – ‫( )یوم عظیم‬21).
﴾٢٢﴿ َ‫ ِمنَ الصَّا ِدقِين‬They said: “Have you come to us to
turn us away from our gods? If so,
then bring upon us what you threaten
us with if you are from the truthful
‫ت بِ ِه َولَ ٰـ ِكنِّي‬ ُ ‫ال إِنَّ َما ْال ِع ْل ُم ِعن َد اللَّـ ِه َوأُبَلِّ ُغ ُكم َّما أُرْ ِس ْل‬ َ َ ‫ق‬ ones”(22). He said: “The knowledge
thereof is with God and I convey to
﴾٢٣﴿ َ‫ أَ َرا ُك ْم قَوْ ًّما تَجْ هَلُون‬you what I am sent with, but I have

seen you to be a community of
ِ ‫َارضًّا ُّم ْستَ ْقبِ َل أَوْ ِديَتِ ِه ْم قَالُوا هَ ٰـ َذا ع‬
ٌ‫َارض‬ ِ ‫فَلَ َّما َرأَوْ هُ ع‬ ignorant ones (23). So, when they saw
the fate like an overpowering dense
ٌ‫ْج ْلتُم بِ ِه ۚ ِري ٌح فِيهَا َع َذاب‬
َ ‫ُّم ْم ِط ُرنَا ۚ بَلْ هُ َو َما ا ْستَع‬ cloud coming to their valleys, they
said this is to shower them with
﴾٢٤﴿ ‫أَلِي ٌم‬ provisions. But it actually was what
you were anxious to hasten, a burst of
storm wherein was a painful torment
‫تُ َد ِّم ُر ُك َّل َش ْي ٍء بِأ َ ْم ِر َربِّهَا فَأَصْ بَحُوا ََّل يُ َر ٰى إِ ََّّل‬ (24), destroying everything by order
of its Lord. And they were rendered
﴾٢٥﴿ َ‫َم َسا ِكنُهُ ْم ۚ َك ٰ َذلِكَ نَجْ ِزي ْالقَوْ َم ْال ُمجْ ِر ِمين‬ bereft of everything except their
dwellings. That’s how we pay bck the
‫َولَقَ ْد َم َّكنَّاهُ ْم فِي َما إِن َّم َّكنَّا ُك ْم فِي ِه َو َج َع ْلنَا لَهُ ْم َس ْمعًّا‬ guilty people (25). And we had
established them in a way we have not
َ ‫ْصارًّا َوأَ ْفئِ َدةًّ فَ َما أَ ْغن َٰى َع ْنهُ ْم َس ْم ُعهُ ْم َو ََّل أَب‬
‫ْصا ُرهُ ْم‬ َ ‫َوأَب‬ established you in, and we had
provided them with hearing and
ِ ‫َو ََّل أَ ْفئِ َدتُهُم ِّمن َش ْي ٍء إِ ْذ َكانُوا يَجْ َح ُدونَ بِآيَا‬
‫ت اللَّـ ِه‬ intellect and minds, still their hearing,
their intellect and their minds did not
﴾٢٦﴿ َ‫ق بِ ِهم َّما َكانُوا بِ ِه يَ ْستَه ِْزئُون‬
َ ‫َو َحا‬ benefit them at all since they were in
confrontation with the messages of
God, and what they used to mock at
‫ت‬ َ ‫َولَقَ ْد أَ ْهلَ ْكنَا َما َحوْ لَ ُكم ِّمنَ ْالقُ َر ٰى َو‬
ِ ‫ص َّر ْفنَا ْاْليَا‬ eventually befell them (26). And We
have destroyed towns in your
﴾٢٧﴿ َ‫لَ َعلَّهُ ْم يَرْ ِجعُون‬ surrounding regions and We
explained (sarrafna – ‫ )ص ّرفنا‬the
revelation for them to regain their
‫ون اللَّـ ِه قُرْ بَانًّا‬ former status (yarji’oon – ‫)یرج ُعون‬ ِ
ِ ‫َص َرهُ ُم الَّ ِذينَ اتَّخَ ُذوا ِمن ُد‬
َ ‫فَلَوْ ََّل ن‬
(27). Then why did they not help them
‫ضلُّوا َع ْنهُ ْم ۚ َو ٰ َذلِكَ إِ ْف ُكهُ ْم َو َما َكانُوا‬
َ ْ‫آلِهَةًّ ۚ بَل‬ whom they had chosen to approach as
gods beside the God? They rather
﴾٢٨﴿ َ‫يَ ْفتَرُون‬ made them divert from the right path.
And that was actually their falsehood,
and what they have been inventing
(28).
‫ص َر ْفنَا إِلَ ْيكَ نَفَرًّا ِّمنَ ْال ِجنِّ يَ ْستَ ِمعُونَ ْالقُرْ آنَ فَلَ َّما‬
َ ‫َوإِ ْذ‬
And do remember when We made a
group of highly potent men with
‫ض َي َولَّوْ ا إِلَ ٰى قَوْ ِم ِهم‬ِ ُ‫نصتُوا ۚ فَلَ َّما ق‬ ِ َ‫ضرُوهُ قَالُوا أ‬ َ ‫َح‬
concealed identity (al-Jinn – ّ‫)الجن‬
ِ
approach you and manage to listen to
﴾٢٩﴿ َ‫ُّمن ِذ ِرين‬
the Quran; so when they were in

attendance, they said: “Listen
quietly”. Thereafter when the session
ُ concluded, they returned to their
ِ ‫قَالُوا يَا قَوْ َمنَا إِنَّا َس ِم ْعنَا ِكتَابًّا أ‬
‫نز َل ِمن بَ ْع ِد ُمو َس ٰى‬ people as warner (29). They said: “O
our people, It is a fact that we have
‫ق‬ ِّ ‫ص ِّدقًّا لِّ َما بَ ْينَ يَ َد ْي ِه يَ ْه ِدي إِلَى ْال َح‬
ٍ ‫ق َوإِلَ ٰى طَ ِري‬ َ ‫ُم‬ listened to a scripture that comes
after Moses, attesting that which
﴾٣٠﴿ ‫ُّم ْستَقِ ٍيم‬ consisted therein, guiding towards the
truth and towards a path of
‫يَا قَوْ َمنَا أَ ِجيبُوا دَا ِع َي اللَّـ ِه َوآ ِمنُوا بِ ِه يَ ْغفِرْ لَ ُكم ِّمن‬ steadfastness (30); O our people!
Respond to God’s caller and believe
﴾٣١﴿ ‫ب أَلِ ٍيم‬
ٍ ‫ُذنُوبِ ُك ْم َوي ُِجرْ ُكم ِّم ْن َع َذا‬ in him, He would forgive your
faults/misdeeds and guard you
ِ ْ‫ْج ٍز فِي ْاْلَر‬
‫ض‬ َ ‫َو َمن ََّّل ي ُِجبْ دَا ِع َي اللَّـ ِه فَلَي‬
ِ ‫ْس بِ ُمع‬ against a painful torment (31). And
who doesn’t respond to the caller of
َ ‫ْس لَهُ ِمن ُدونِ ِه أَوْ لِيَا ُء ۚ أُولَ ٰـئِكَ فِي‬
‫ض ََل ٍل‬ َ ‫َولَي‬ God, there’s no chance for him to
escape on the earth and none is there
﴾٣٢﴿ ‫ُّمبِي ٍن‬ to protect him other than Him. Such
are in a manifest error (32)”. Do they
َ ْ‫ت َو ْاْلَر‬
‫ض َولَ ْم‬ ِ ‫اوا‬ َ َ‫أَ َولَ ْم يَ َروْ ا أَ َّن اللَّـهَ الَّ ِذي خَ ل‬
َ ‫ق ال َّس َم‬ not see that it is God who has created
the cosmic bodies and the Planet
ُ‫خَلقِ ِه َّن بِقَا ِد ٍر َعلَ ٰى أَن يُحْ يِ َي ْال َموْ تَىٰ ۚ بَلَ ٰى إِنَّه‬
ْ ِ‫ْي ب‬
َ ‫يَع‬ Earth and was not tired by that act of
creation, is able to give life to the
﴾٣٣﴿ ‫َعلَ ٰى ُكلِّ َش ْي ٍء قَ ِدي ٌر‬ dead. Yes, indeed He has set laws and
values for everything (33). And the
َ ‫ار أَلَي‬
‫ْس هَ ٰـ َذا‬ ِ َّ‫َويَوْ َم يُع َْرضُ الَّ ِذينَ َكفَرُوا َعلَى الن‬ time when the deniers of truth would
be exposed to the fire and asked:
َ ‫ال فَ ُذوقُوا ْال َع َذ‬
‫اب بِ َما‬ ِّ ‫بِ ْال َح‬
َ َ‫ق ۚ قَالُوا بَلَ ٰى َو َربِّنَا ۚ ق‬ “Isn’t this true/real?” They would
say: “Yes, by our Lord, it is”. He
﴾٣٤﴿ َ‫ُكنتُ ْم تَ ْكفُرُون‬ would say: “So, taste the torment in
return of what you have been
ِ ‫صبَ َر أُولُو ْال َع ْز ِم ِمنَ الرُّ س ُِل َو ََّل تَ ْستَع‬
‫ْجل‬ َ ‫فَاصْ بِرْ َك َما‬ denying”(34). Therefore, be
steadfast, as have been the other
ًّ‫لَّهُ ْم ۚ َكأَنَّهُ ْم يَوْ َم يَ َروْ نَ َما يُو َع ُدونَ لَ ْم يَ ْلبَثُوا إِ ََّّل َسا َعة‬
Messengers, having determination.
And do not be hasty with these
‫ك إِ ََّّل ْالقَوْ ُم‬ ٌ ‫ار ۚ بَ ََل‬
ُ َ‫غ ۚ فَهَلْ يُ ْهل‬ ٍ َ‫ِّمن نَّه‬ people. On the day they see what they
were promised, it will be as if they
ِ َ‫ْالف‬
﴾٣٥﴿ َ‫اسقُون‬ had lived in the daylight for only an
hour. A clear message: “Would
anyone be perished except those with

evil designs against common folks (al-
faasiqoon – ‫”?)الفاسقون‬

minal laahil-'Azeezil Hakeem (2) Maa
khalaqnas samaawaati wal arda wa maa
bainahumaaa illaa bilhaqqi wa ajalim
musammaa; wallazeena kafaroo
'ammaaa unziroo mu'ridoon (3) Qul
ara'aytum maa tad'oona min doonil laahi
aroonee maazaa khalaqoo minal ardi am
lahum shirkun fis samaawaati eetoonee
bi kitaabim min qabli haazaaa aw
asaaratim min 'ilmin in kuntum
saadiqeen(4) Wa man adallu mimmany
yad'oo min doonil laahi mallaa
yastajeebu lahooo ilaa Yawmil
Qiyaamati wa hum'an du'aaa'ihim
ghaafiloon (5) Wa izaa hushiran naasu
kaanoo lahum a'daaa'anw wa kaanoo
bi'ibaadatihim kaafireen (6) Wa izaa
tutlaa 'alaihim Aayaatunaa baiyinaatin
qaalal lazeena kafaroo lilhaqqi lammaa
jaaa'ahum haazaa sihrum Mubeen (7)
Am yaqooloonaf taraahu qul inif
taraituhoo falaa tamlikoona lee minal
laahi shai'an Huwa a'lamu bimaa
tufeedoona feehi kafaa bihee shaheedam
bainee wa bainakum wa Huwal
Ghafoorur Raheem (8) Qul maa kuntu
bid'am minal Rusuli wa maaa adreee ma
yuf'alu bee wa laa bikum in attabi'u illaa
maa yoohaaa ilaiya ya maaa ana illaa

taqaamoo falaa khawfun 'alaihim wa
laahum yahzanoon (13) Ulaaa'ika
Ashabul Jannati khaalideena feehaa
jazaaa'am bimaa kaano ya'maloon (14)
Wa wassainal insaana biwaalidaihi
ihsaana; hamalat hu ummuhoo
kurhanw-wa wada'at hu kurhanw wa
hamluhoo wa fisaaluhoo salaasoona
shahraa; hattaaa izaa balagha
ashuddahoo wa balagha arba'eena
sanatan qaala Rabbi awzi' neee an
ashkura ni'matakal lateee an'amta 'alaiya
wa 'alaa waalidaiya wa an a'mala
saalihan tardaahu wa aslih lee fee
zurriyyatee; innee tubtu ilaika wa innee
minal muslimeen (15) Ulaaa'ikal
lazeena nata qabbalu 'anhum ahsana
maa 'amiloo wa natajaawazu 'an
saiyiaatihim feee Ashaabil jannati
Wa'das sidqil lazee kaanoo yoo'adoon
(16) Wallazee qaala liwaali daihi uffil
lakumaaa ata'idanineee an ukhraja wa
qad khalatil quroonu min qablee wa
humaa yastagheesaanil laaha wailaka
aamin inna wa'dal laahi haqq, fa
yaqoolu maa haazaaa illaaa asaateerul
awwaleen (17) Ulaaa'ikal lazeena haqqa
'alaihimul qawlu feee umamin qad
khalat min qablihim minal jinni wal insi
innahum kaanoo khaasireen(18) Wa
likullin darajaatum mimmaa 'amiloo wa

litaa fikanaa 'an aalihatinaa faatinaa

saadiqeen (22) Qaala innamal 'ilmu
indal laahi wa uballighukum maaa uriltu
bihee wa laakinneee araakum qawman
tajhaloon (23) Falammaa ra awhu
'aaridam mustaqbila awdiyatihim qaaloo
haazaa 'aaridum mumtirunaa; bal huwa
masta'jaltum bihee reehun feehaa
'azaabun aleem (24) Tudammiru kulla
shai'im bi-amri Rabbihaa fa asbahoo laa
yuraaa illaa masaakinuhum; kazaalika
najzil qawmal mujrimeen (25) Wa laqad
makkannaahum feemaaa im
makkannaakum feehi waj'alnaa lahum
sam'anw wa absaaranw wa af'idatan
famaaa aghnaa 'anhum samu'uhum wa
laaa absaaruhum wa laaa af'idatuhum
min shai'in iz kaanoo yajhadoona bi
Aayaatil laahi wa haaqa bihim maa
kaanoo bihee yastahzi'oon (section 3)
(26) Wa laqad ahlaknaa ma hawlakum
minal quraa wa sarrafnal Aayaati
la'allahum yarji'oon (27) Falaw laa
nasarahumul lazeenat takhazoo min
doonil laahi qurbaanan aalihatam bal

lahoo min dooniheee awliyaaa'; ulaaa
ika fee dalaalim Mubeen (32) Awalam
yaraw annal laahal lazee khalaqas
samaawaati wal larda wa lam ya'ya
bikhal qihinna biqaadirin 'alaaa
aiyuhyiyal mawtaa; balaaa innahoo 'alaa
kulli shai'in Qadeer (33) Wa Yawma
yu'radul lazeena kafaroo 'alan naari
alaisa haaza bil haqq; qaaloo balaa wa
Rabbinaa; qaala fazooqul 'azaaba bimaa
kuntum takfuroon (34) Fasbir kamaa
sabara ulul 'azmi minar Rusuli wa laa
tasta'jil lahum; ka annahum Yawma
yarawna maa yoo'adoona lam yalbasooo
illaa saa'atam min nahaar; balaagh; fahal
yuhlaku illal qawmul faasiqoon (section

Chapter Mohammad (47)
(47)
َ َ‫یل اللَّـ ِه أ‬
‫ض َّل‬ ِ ِ ‫سب‬ َ ‫ الَّ ِذینَ َكفَ ُروا َو‬Those who have deliberately denied
َ ‫صدُّوا عَن‬
﴾١﴿ ‫ أَ ْع َمالَ ُه ْم‬the truth and hindered the way of
God, the God has let all of their

accomplishments (a’maala-hum –
‫ت َوآ َمنُوا بِ َما نُ ِّز َل‬ َّ ‫َوالَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا َو َع ِملُوا ال‬
ِ ‫صالِ َحا‬ ‫ )اعمالهم‬go waste (1). And those who
had faith and then worked hard for
‫ق ِمن َّربِّ ِه ْم ۙ َكفَّ َر َع ْن ُه ْم‬
ُّ ‫َعلَ ٰى ُم َح َّم ٍد َوه َُو ا ْل َح‬ reform and welfare (‘amilu as-
saalihaat – ‫الصالحات‬ّ ‫)عملوا‬, and believed
ْ َ‫سیِّئَاتِ ِه ْم َوأ‬
﴾٢﴿ ‫صلَ َح بَالَ ُه ْم‬ َ in what was revealed to Mohammad,
which was the veritable truth from
their Sustainer, their misdeeds have
ٰ been ignored and the effects thereof
‫اط َل َوأَنَّ الَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا‬
ِ َ‫َذلِكَ بِأَنَّ الَّ ِذینَ َكفَ ُروا اتَّبَ ُعوا ا ْلب‬ removed from them (2). That is
ٰ because those who had hidden the
ِ ‫ب اللَّـهُ لِلنَّا‬
‫س‬ ْ َ‫ق ِمن َّربِّ ِه ْم ۙ َك َذلِكَ ی‬
ُ ‫ض ِر‬ َّ ‫اتَّبَ ُعوا ا ْل َح‬ truth had followed the way of evil and
that those who had attained to faith
﴾٣﴿ ‫أَ ْمثَالَ ُه ْم‬ had followed the truth coming from
their Sustainer. This is how the God
presents examples for the benefit of
the common people (3). So, whenever
‫ب َحتَّ ٰى إِ َذا‬
ِ ‫الرقَا‬
ِّ ‫ب‬ َ َ‫فَإ ِ َذا لَقِیتُ ُم الَّ ِذینَ َكفَ ُروا ف‬
َ ‫ض ْر‬ you happen to confront those who
have denied the truth, set forth watch
‫ق فَإ ِ َّما َمنًّّا بَ ْع ُد َوإِ َّما فِدَا ًّء َحت َّ ٰى‬ ُ َ‫أَ ْث َخنتُ ُمو ُه ْم ف‬
َ ‫شدُّوا ا ْل َوثَا‬
and safeguards (dharb ar-riqaab –
ٰ ‫ )ضرب الرقاب‬so long as you thoroughly
‫َص َر‬ َ ‫ب أَ ْو‬
َ ‫زَارهَا ۙ َذلِكَ َولَ ْو یَشَا ُء اللَّـهُ َالنت‬ ُ ‫َض َع ا ْل َح ْر‬
َ ‫ت‬ subdue them (athkhantumu-hum –
‫ ;)اثخنتُ ُموهُم‬then tighten the bonds
‫ض ۙ َوالَّ ِذینَ قُتِلُوا فِي‬ َ ‫ِم ْن ُه ْم َولَ ٰـ ِكن لِّیَ ْبلُ َو بَ ْع‬
ٍ ‫ض ُكم بِبَ ْع‬ (shuddu al-wathaaq – ‫)شُدواالوثاق‬
around them, but thereafter, exercise
﴾٤﴿ ‫ض َّل أَ ْع َمالَ ُه ْم‬
ِ ُ‫یل اللَّـ ِه فَلَن ی‬
ِ ِ ‫سب‬
َ either an act of grace (mannan
ba’adu – ‫ )منّا بع ُد‬or get a ransom so
that the war lifts its burdens
(auzaara-ha – ‫ )اوزارها‬or comes to its
end. So it is; and had the God so
desired, He would certainly have
taken revenge on them but He rather
passes you all through trials by means
of one another. And those who are
slain in the way of God, He does not
let their accomplishments go waste
﴾٥﴿ ‫صلِ ُح بَالَ ُه ْم‬
ْ ُ‫سیَ ْه ِدی ِه ْم َوی‬
َ (4). He would certainly put them on
the righteous path and reform
whatever their shortcomings may be
﴾٦﴿ ‫َویُد ِْخلُ ُه ُم ا ْل َجنَّةَ َع َّرفَ َها لَ ُه ْم‬ (5) and would admit them into the life

of peace and protection (al-Jannata –
‫ )الجنّۃ‬which He has made known to
them (6).
ْ‫ص ْر ُك ْم َویُثَبِّت‬ ُ ‫یَا أَیُّ َها الَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا إِن تَن‬
ُ ‫ص ُروا اللَّـهَ یَن‬ O people of faith, if you help God in
His plans, He will also help you and
﴾٧﴿ ‫أَ ْقدَا َم ُك ْم‬
stabilize your steps (7). And those
who deny the truth, destruction
﴾٨﴿ ‫ض َّل أَ ْع َمالَ ُه ْم‬
َ َ‫سا لَّ ُه ْم َوأ‬
ًّ ‫َوالَّ ِذینَ َكفَ ُروا فَتَ ْع‬ awaits them and their
﴾٩﴿ ‫ٰ َذلِكَ بِأَنَّ ُه ْم َك ِرهُوا َما أَنزَ َل اللَّـهُ فَأ َ ْحبَطَ أَ ْع َمالَ ُه ْم‬
accomplishments go waste (8): it is so
because they have despised what the
God has revealed, therefore, He has
ِ ‫سی ُروا فِي ْاْلَ ْر‬
ُ‫ض فَیَنظُ ُروا َكیْفَ َكانَ عَاقِبَة‬ ِ َ‫أَفَلَ ْم ی‬ caused their deeds to go waste (9).
Then, do they not travel in the land so
َ‫الَّ ِذینَ ِمن قَ ْبلِ ِه ْم ۙ َد َّم َر اللَّـهُ َعلَ ْی ِه ْم ۙ َولِ ْل َكافِ ِرین‬ that they could observe the remains of
those before them? God has crushed
﴾١٠﴿ ‫أَ ْمثَالُ َها‬ them and left their examples for the
deniers of truth (10). It is so because
‫ٰ َذلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّـهَ َم ْولَى الَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا َوأَنَّ ا ْل َكافِ ِرینَ َال‬ the God is Guardian of the faithful,
﴾١١﴿ ‫َم ْولَ ٰى لَ ُه ْم‬ whereas the deniers of truth have no
protector for them (11). God is going
ٍ ‫ت َجنَّا‬
‫ت‬ َّ ‫إِنَّ اللَّـهَ یُد ِْخ ُل الَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا َو َع ِملُوا ال‬
ِ ‫صالِ َحا‬ to admit the faithful who have
performed welfare and reformative
َ‫ت َْج ِري ِمن ت َْحتِ َها ْاْلَ ْن َها ُر ۙ َوالَّ ِذینَ َكفَ ُروا یَتَ َمتَّ ُعون‬ deeds into lives of peace and
protection under which flows
﴾١٢﴿ ‫َویَأْ ُكلُونَ َك َما تَأْ ُك ُل ْاْلَ ْن َعا ُم َوالنَّا ُر َم ْث ًّوى لَّ ُه ْم‬ abundance of everything. And the
deniers of truth are just taking
benefit presently and eating just like
the cattle eat, while the fire of
remorse is going to be their
َ َ‫َو َكأَیِّن ِّمن قَ ْریَ ٍة ِه َي أ‬
‫ش ُّد قُ َّوةًّ ِّمن قَ ْریَتِكَ الَّتِي‬ permanent abode (12). And how
many were the communities much
ِ َ‫أَ ْخ َر َج ْتكَ أَ ْهلَ ْكنَا ُه ْم فَ ََل ن‬
﴾١٣﴿ ‫اص َر لَ ُه ْم‬ more powerful than your community
which has driven you out, have we
destroyed, with none to support them
ُ ُ‫أَفَ َمن َكانَ َعلَ ٰى بَیِّنَ ٍة ِّمن َّربِّ ِه َك َمن ُزیِّنَ لَه‬
‫سو ُء‬ (13). Therefore, can the one who
stands on clear evidence from His
﴾١٤﴿ ‫َع َملِ ِه َواتَّبَعُوا أَه َْوا َءهُم‬ Sustainer, be like the one whose evil
deeds seem beautiful to him, and such
ones would follow but their own

lusts?(14).

‫َّمثَ ُل ا ْل َجنَّ ِة الَّتِي ُو ِع َد ا ْل ُمتَّقُونَ ۙ فِی َها أَ ْن َها ٌر ِّمن َّما ٍء‬ The life of peace and protection which
has been promised to the God
ْ‫آس ٍن َوأَ ْن َها ٌر ِّمن لَّبَ ٍن لَّ ْم یَتَ َغیَّ ْر طَ ْع ُمهُ َوأَ ْن َها ٌر ِّمن‬
ِ ‫َغ ْی ِر‬ conscious ones is exemplified in terms
of having abundant flow (anhaar –
‫صفًّّى ۙ َولَ ُه ْم‬ َ ‫َخ ْم ٍر لَّ َّذ ٍة لِّلشَّا ِربِینَ َوأَ ْن َها ٌر ِّمنْ َع‬
َ ‫س ٍل ُّم‬ ‫ )انہار‬of pure water, abundance
(anhaarun – ‫ )انہا ُر‬of milk the taste
ِ ‫فِی َها ِمن ُك ِّل الثَّ َم َرا‬
‫ت َو َم ْغفِ َرةٌ ِّمن َّربِّ ِه ْم ۙ َك َمنْ ه َُو‬ whereof never alters, abundance of
wine having delightful taste for those
‫سقُوا َما ًّء َح ِمی ًّما فَقَطَّ َع‬
ُ ‫َخالِ ٌد فِي النَّا ِر َو‬ who drink it, and abundance of
purified honey. And for them therein
﴾١٥﴿ ‫أَ ْم َعا َء ُه ْم‬ are all kinds of fruit and means of
protection from their Sustainer; can
this be likened or compared with one
who languishes eternally in the fire of
remorse and given to drink water of
burning despair (maa’un hamiman –
َ‫ستَ ِم ُع إِلَ ْیكَ َحت َّ ٰى إِ َذا َخ َر ُجوا ِمنْ ِعن ِدك‬
ْ َ‫َو ِم ْن ُهم َّمن ی‬ ‫)ماء حمیما‬, subsequently tearing his
bowels apart?(15) And among them
َ‫قَالُوا لِلَّ ِذینَ أُوتُوا ا ْل ِع ْل َم َما َذا قَا َل آنِفًّا ۙ أُولَ ٰـئِكَ الَّ ِذین‬ are those who manage to listen to you
until they make their exit from your
‫طَبَ َع اللَّـهُ َعلَ ٰى قُلُوبِ ِه ْم َواتَّبَ ُعوا‬ audience, and then ask those
bestowed with knowledge as to “what
﴾١٦﴿ ‫أَه َْوا َء ُه ْم‬ was he saying just now?” They are
those whose minds have been sealed
by God as they had been following
﴾١٧﴿ ‫َوالَّ ِذینَ ا ْهتَد َْوا زَا َد ُه ْم ُهدًّى َوآتَا ُه ْم تَ ْق َوا ُه ْم‬ their own lusts (16). And those who
manage to be guided, He enhances
their guidance and bestows them with
‫سا َعةَ أَن تَأْتِیَ ُهم بَ ْغتَةًّ ۙ فَقَ ْد َجا َء‬
َّ ‫فَ َه ْل یَنظُ ُرونَ إِ َّال ال‬ God-consciousness (17). Therefore,
what are they looking up to except the
﴾١٨﴿ ‫أَش َْراطُ َها ۙ فَأَنَّ ٰى لَ ُه ْم إِ َذا َجا َء ْت ُه ْم ِذ ْك َرا ُه ْم‬ hour of judgement to come upon
them suddenly; however, its
indicators have already come, hence,
what are they going to avail when
their accounts are opened to them?
ْ ‫فَا ْعلَ ْم أَنَّهُ َال إِلَ ٰـهَ إِ َّال اللَّـهُ َوا‬
َ‫ستَ ْغفِ ْر لِ َذنبِكَ َولِ ْل ُم ْؤ ِمنِین‬ (18) So, let it be known that there’s no
authority except the God, so seek
﴾١٩﴿ ‫ت ۙ َواللَّـهُ یَ ْعلَ ُم ُمتَقَلَّبَ ُك ْم َو َم ْث َوا ُك ْم‬
ِ ‫َوا ْل ُم ْؤ ِمنَا‬ forgiveness for your transgressions

and for those of the other faithful
ones (lil-momineen – ‫ )للمومنین‬and the
faithful groups/communities (lil-
mominaat – ‫ ;)للمومنات‬for God knows
all about the time and place of your
movements (mutaqallaba-kum –
‫ ) ُمتقلّب ُکم‬and your resting places/targets
(mathwaa-kum – ‫( )مثوا ُکم‬19).
ْ‫ورةٌ ۙ فَإ ِ َذا أُن ِزلَت‬
َ ‫س‬ُ ْ‫َویَقُو ُل الَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا لَ ْو َال نُ ِّزلَت‬
Those who believe say, "Why has a
َ
‫ورةٌ ُّم ْح َك َمة َوذ ِك َر فِی َها ا ْلقِتَا ُل ۙ َرأیْتَ الَّ ِذینَ فِي‬ ُ ٌ َ ‫س‬ ُ surah not been sent down?” But when
a precise surah is revealed and
َ‫ش ِّي َعلَ ْی ِه ِمن‬ ِ ‫ض یَنظُ ُرونَ إِلَ ْیكَ نَظَ َر ا ْل َم ْغ‬ ٌ ‫ قُلُوبِ ِهم َّم َر‬fighting is ordained therein, you see
those with sick minds looking at you
﴾٢٠﴿ ‫ت ۙ فَأ ْولَ ٰى لَ ُه ْم‬ َ ِ ‫ ا ْل َم ْو‬with a look of one overcome by death.
But more preferable on their part
‫ص َدقُوا‬ َ ‫ طَا َعةٌ َوقَ ْو ٌل َّم ْع ُروفٌ ۙ فَإ ِ َذا َعزَ َم ْاْلَ ْم ُر فَلَ ْو‬would be (20) to show obedience and
utter befitting words. And when the
﴾٢١﴿ ‫ اللَّـهَ لَ َكانَ َخ ْی ًّرا لَّ ُه ْم‬matter was resolved, if they had
shown to be true to God’s verdict, it
ِ ‫سدُوا فِي ْاْلَ ْر‬
‫ض‬ ِ ‫س ْیتُ ْم إِن ت ََولَّ ْیتُ ْم أَن تُ ْف‬ َ ‫ فَ َه ْل َع‬would have been better for them (21).
So, had you not wished, if you had the
﴾٢٢﴿ ‫ َوتُقَطِّ ُعوا أَ ْر َحا َم ُك ْم‬authority, that you may cause
corruption and chaos in the land and
may cut off your relations of kinship
ٰ‫ص َّم ُه ْم َوأَ ْع َمى‬ َ َ ‫( أُولَ ٰـئِكَ الَّ ِذینَ لَ َعنَ ُه ُم اللَّـهُ فَأ‬22)? Then you are those whom the
﴾٢٣﴿ ‫ار ُه ْم‬ َ ‫ص‬َ ‫ أَ ْب‬God has condemned and then made
deaf and turned their visions blind
﴾٢٤﴿ ‫ب أقفال َها‬ُ َ ْ َ ُ ُ َ َ ُ ْ
ٍ ‫( أفَل یَت َدبَّ ُرونَ الق ْرآنَ أ ْم َعل ٰى قلو‬23). َ َ َ َ Do they, therefore, not
deliberate over this Quran? Or are
their own locks are applied to their
َ
‫ارتَدُّوا َعل ٰى أ ْدبَا ِر ِهم ِّمن بَ ْع ِد َما تَبَیَّنَ ل ُه ُم‬ َ َ َّ
ْ َ‫ إِنَّ ال ِذین‬minds? (24) Indeed those who have
َ َ
﴾٢٥﴿ ‫س َّو َل ل ُه ْم َوأ ْمل ٰى ل ُه ْم‬َ َ َ ُ‫ش ْیطان‬ َ َّ ‫ ا ْل ُهدَى ۙ ال‬turned their backs after the guidance
has been elaborated for them, their
rebellious instincts (ash-Shayitan –
‫ )الشّیطان‬have enticed them and filled
ُ
‫سن ِطی ُع ُك ْم‬ َّ َ َّ ُ َ َّ َ َ ٰ
َ ُ‫ ذلِكَ بِأن ُه ْم قالوا لِل ِذینَ َك ِرهُوا َما ن َّز َل اللـه‬them with satisfaction.(25) That is so
because they used to say to those who
﴾٢٦﴿ ‫ار ُه ْم‬ َ ‫س َر‬ َ َّ
ْ ِ‫ض ْاْل ْم ِر ۙ َواللـهُ یَ ْعل ُم إ‬ َ ِ ‫ فِي بَ ْع‬abhor all that God has revealed, “We
shall obey you in some of the issues”.

But the God knows their secret
‫ض ِربُونَ ُو ُجو َه ُه ْم‬ ُ ْ َّ َ َ
ْ َ‫ ف َكیْفَ إِذا تَ َوف ْت ُه ُم ال َم ََلئِ َكة ی‬conspiracies.(26) Therefore, how
would it be when the forces of nature
﴾٢٧﴿ ‫ار ُه ْم‬ َ
َ َ‫ َوأ ْدب‬give them death striking their faces
and their backs? (27) It is so because
َ َ َ َ ٰ
ُ‫ض َوانَه‬ ْ ‫س َخط اللَّـهَ َو َك ِرهُوا ِر‬ ْ ‫ ذلِكَ بِأنَّ ُه ُم اتَّبَ ُعوا َما أ‬they had pursued what angered God
and were not keen to seek His
َ َ َ َ
﴾٢٨﴿ ‫ فأ ْحبَط أ ْع َمالَ ُه ْم‬approval, so, He caused their
accomplishments go waste (28). Did
ُ‫ض أن لَّن یُ ْخ ِر َج اللَّـه‬ َ ٌ ‫ب الَّ ِذینَ فِي قُلُوبِ ِهم َّم َر‬ َ ‫س‬ َ
ِ ‫ أ ْم َح‬those with sick minds think that God
would not expose their malice?(29)
﴾٢٩﴿ ‫ض َغانَ ُه ْم‬ َ
ْ ‫ أ‬Had We so willed, We would expose
them to you so you could know them
‫سی َما ُه ْم ۙ َولَتَ ْع ِرفَنَّ ُه ْم‬ َ
ِ ِ‫ َولَ ْو نَشَا ُء َْل َر ْینَا َك ُه ْم فَلَ َع َر ْفتَهُم ب‬by their outer features; and you can
certainly know them by the tone of
﴾٣٠﴿ ‫ فِي لَ ْح ِن ا ْلقَ ْو ِل ۙ َواللَّـهُ یَ ْعلَ ُم أَ ْع َمالَ ُك ْم‬their speech. However, God knows
your accomplishments (30).

َّ ‫َولَنَ ْبلُ َونَّ ُك ْم َحتَّ ٰى نَ ْعلَ َم ا ْل ُم َجا ِه ِدینَ ِمن ُك ْم َوال‬


َ‫صابِ ِرین‬ And We would certainly pass you
through trials so that We may know
َ َ‫َونَ ْبلُ َو أَ ْخب‬
﴾٣١﴿ ‫ار ُك ْم‬ those of you striving hard and having
steadfastness, and we can then test
your knowledge and awareness (31).
‫یل اللَّـ ِه َوشَاقُّوا‬
ِ ِ ‫سب‬ َ ‫إِنَّ الَّ ِذینَ َكفَ ُروا َو‬
َ ‫صدُّوا عَن‬ Indeed those who denied the truth
and created obstacles in Allah’s way
ُ َ‫سو َل ِمن بَ ْع ِد َما تَبَیَّنَ لَ ُه ُم ا ْل ُهد َٰى لَن ی‬
َ‫ض ُّروا اللَّـه‬ ُ ‫ال َّر‬ and made the Messenger to face
hardship after the Guidance had been
﴾٣٢﴿ ‫سیُ ْحبِطُ أَ ْع َمالَ ُه ْم‬
َ ‫ش ْیئًّا َو‬
َ explained to them, will not be able to
harm God in any form and He is
going to reject their accomplishments
ُ ‫یَا أَیُّ َها الَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا أَ ِطی ُعوا اللَّـهَ َوأَ ِطی ُعوا ال َّر‬
‫سو َل‬ (32). O people of faith obey God and
obey the Messenger and do not spoil
﴾٣٣﴿ ‫َو َال تُ ْب ِطلُوا أَ ْع َمالَ ُك ْم‬ your accomplishments (33). Of
course, those who have denied the
‫یل اللَّـ ِه ثُ َّم َماتُوا‬
ِ ِ ‫سب‬
َ ‫صدُّوا عَن‬ َ ‫إِنَّ الَّ ِذینَ َكفَ ُروا َو‬ truth and have created barriers in the
﴾٣٤﴿ ‫َو ُه ْم ُكفَّا ٌر فَلَن یَ ْغفِ َر اللَّـهُ لَ ُه ْم‬ way of God, and then have died when
they were still disbelievers, God is
ُ‫س ْل ِم َوأَنتُ ُم ْاْلَ ْعلَ ْونَ َواللَّـه‬
َّ ‫فَ ََل تَ ِهنُوا َوتَ ْدعُوا إِلَى ال‬ never going to pardon them (34).
Therefore, do not feel weak and keep
﴾٣٥﴿ ‫َم َع ُك ْم َولَن یَتِ َر ُك ْم أَ ْع َمالَ ُك ْم‬ calling towards submission to God

because you are the one superior than
others, as God is with you and is
never going to waste your
performance (35).

ٌ ‫إِنَّ َما ا ْل َحیَاةُ ال ُّد ْنیَا لَ ِع‬


‫ب َولَ ْه ٌو ۙ َوإِن ت ُْؤ ِمنُوا َوتَتَّقُوا‬ As a matter of fact, the life of this
world is that of playing an act (la’ab –
﴾٣٦﴿ ‫سأ َ ْل ُك ْم أَ ْم َوالَ ُك ْم‬ َ ‫یُ ْؤتِ ُك ْم أُ ُج‬
ْ َ‫ور ُك ْم َو َال ی‬ ‫ )لعب‬and an unmindful diversion
(lahw – ‫)لهو‬. And if you have faith and
become God-conscious, He would
grant you your rewards and He is not
going to demand your possessions
‫سأ َ ْل ُك ُموهَا فَیُ ْحفِ ُك ْم تَ ْب َخلُوا َویُ ْخ ِر ْج‬
ْ َ‫إِن ی‬ (36). Were He to demand those from
you, then pressurize you, you would
ْ َ‫أ‬
﴾٣٧﴿ ‫ض َغانَ ُك ْم‬ behave miserly (tabkhilu – ‫ )تبخلوا‬and
He would have to expose your
‫یل اللَّـ ِه فَ ِمن ُكم‬ َ ‫هَا أَنتُ ْم َه ٰـؤ َُال ِء تُ ْدع َْونَ لِتُنفِقُوا فِي‬
ِ ِ‫سب‬ unwillingness (37). Behold, it is you
who are invited to spend voluntarily
‫َّمن یَ ْب َخ ُل ۙ َو َمن یَ ْب َخ ْل فَإِن َّ َما یَ ْب َخ ُل عَن‬ in the way of God; but then there are
some of you who exercise misery; and
‫س ِه ۙ َواللَّـهُ ا ْل َغنِ ُّي َوأَنتُ ُم ا ْلفُقَ َرا ُء ۙ َوإِن تَت ََولَّ ْوا‬
ِ ‫نَّ ْف‬ those who become miserly, they
actually become miserly for
﴾٣٨﴿ ‫ستَ ْب ِد ْل قَ ْو ًّما َغ ْی َر ُك ْم ثُ َّم َال یَ ُكونُوا أَ ْمثَالَ ُكم‬
ْ َ‫ی‬ themselves; whereas God is free from
want and you are the ones who stand
in need. And if you turn away, He
would substitute you with other
people who would not be the likes of
you!(38)
Transliteration:
Allazeena kafaroo wa saddoo'an sabeelil Authorized meanings of some
laahi adalla a'maalahum(1) Wallazeena important words:
aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati wa
aamanoo bimaa nuzzila 'alaa Ra-Qaf-Ba: ‫ = ر ق ب‬to guard, observe, watch,
Muhammadinw-wa huwal haqqu mir respect, regard, wait for, tie by the neck, warn,
fear, control. raqib - guard, observer, watcher.
Rabbihim kaffara 'anhum saiyiaatihim
yataraqqab - observing, awaiting, looking
wa aslaha baalahum (2) about, watching. riqab - neck, slave, captive of
Zaalika bi annal lazeena kafarut taba'ul war, captive who has contracted with his
baatila wa annal lazeena aamanut taba'ul master or custodian for his freedom thus the
haqqa mir Rabbihim; kazaalika yadribul expression firriqab would mean in the
laahu linnaasi amsaalahum (3) Fa-izaa ransoming of slaves or captives, its sing. is

laqeetumul lazeena kafaroo fadarbar raqabah. murtaqib - one who guards etc.
riqaab, hattaaa izaa askhan tumoohum
Tha-Kh-Nun : ‫ =ث خ ن‬to be thick, become
fashuddul wasaaq, fa immaa mannnam
coarse, stiff, subdue thoroughly, have a regular
ba'du wa immaa fidaaa'an hattaa tada'al fighting, cause much slaughter, have a
harbu awzaarahaa; zaalika wa law triumphant war, to render/inflict, to be made
yashaaa'ul laahu lantasara minhum wa heavy with something or prone. athkhana - to
laakil laiyabluwa ba'dakum biba'd; do something great, make much slaughter,
wallazeena qutiloo fee sabeelil laahi overcome, battle strenuously.
falany yudilla a'maalahum (4) Sa-
Shiin-Dal-Dal: ‫ = ش د د‬to bind tightly, strap,
yahdeehim wa yusihu baalahum (5) Wa strengthen firmly, run, establish, make firm,
yudkhiluhumul jannata 'arrafahaa lahum hard, strong, be advanced (day), be intense.
(6) Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanooo in ushdud - harden, strengthen. shadiid (pl.
tansurul laaha yansurkum wa yusabbit shidaad & ashidda'u - great, firm, strict,
aqdaamakum (7) Wallazeena kafaroo vehement, strong, violent, severe, mighty,
terrible, stern, grievous, miserly, niggardly.
fata' sal lahum wa adalla a'maalahum (8)
(adj. of the forms fa'iil and fiaal are used
Zaalika bi annahum karihoo maaa indifferently for both m. and f.): ashuddun: age
anzalal laahu faahbata a'maalahum (9) of full strength, maturity. ishtadda (vb. 8) - to
Afalam yaseeroo fil ardi fayanzuroo act with violence, become hard.
kaifa kaana 'aaqibatul lazeena min
qablihim; dammaral laahu 'alaihim wa Waw-Tha-Qaf : ‫ = و ث ق‬to place trust in any
one, rely upon, bind.
lilkaafireena amsaaluhaa (10) Zaalika bi
annal laaha mawlal lazeena aamanoo wa Uthiqu (impf. 3rd. p. m. sing. vb. IV): Shall
annal kaafireena laa mawlaa bind, binds.
lahum (section 1)(11) Innal-laaha Wathaaq: bond, fetter.
yudkhilul lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus Mauthiqan: (v. acc.): compact bond, solemn
saalihaati Jannaatin tajree min tahtihal pledge, undertaking of solemn oath.
Mithaaq (n. ints.): bond, treaty, covenant.
anhaaru wallazeena kafaroo
Wuthqaa (ints. f.): firm, strong.
yatamatta'oona wa yaakuloona kamaa Waathaqa (prf. 3rd. p. m. sing. vb. III): he
taakuluian'aamu wan Naaru entered into a compact/treaty. He has bound.
maswallahum (12) Wa ka ayyim min
qaryatin hiya ashaddu quwwatam min
qaryatikal lateee akhrajatka
ahlaknaahum falaa naasira lahum (13)
Afaman kaana 'alaa baiyinatim mir
Rabbihee kaman zuyyina lahoo sooo'u
'amalihee wattaba'ooo ahwaaa'ahum
(14) Masalul jannatil latee wu'idal
muttaqoona feehaaa anhaarum mim
maaa'in ghayri aasininw wa anhaarum
mil labanil lam yataghaiyar ta'muhoo wa

anhaarum min khamril lazzatil
lishshaaribeena wa anhaarum min
'asalim musaffanw wa lahum feeha min
kullis samaraati wa maghfiratum mir
Rabbihim kaman huwa khaalidun fin
naari wa suqoo maaa'an hameeman
faqatta'a am'aaa'ahum (15) Wa minhum
mai yastami' ilaika hattaaa izaa kharajoo
min 'indika qaaloo lillazeena ootul 'ilma
maazaa qaala aanifaa; ulaaa'ikal lazeena
taba'al laahu 'alaa quloobihim
wattaba'ooo ahwaaa'ahum (16)
Wallazeenah tadaw zaadahum hudanw
wa aataahum taqwaahum (17) Fahal
yanzuroona illas Saa'ata an taatiyahum
baghtatan faqad jaaa'a ashraatuhaa; fa-
annnaa lahum izaa jaaa'at hum
zikraahum (18) Fa'lam annahoo laaa
ilaaha illal laahu wastaghfir lizambika
wa lilmu'mineena walmu'minaat;
wallaahu ya'lamu mutaqallabakum wa
maswaakum (section 2)(19) Wa
yaqoolul lazeena aamanoo law laa
nuzzilat Sooratun fa izaaa unzilat
Sooratum Muhkamatunw wa zukira
feehal qitaalu ra aytal lazeena fee
quloobihim maraduny yanzuroona ilaika
nazaral maghshiyyi 'alaihi minal mawti
fa'awlaa lahum (20) Taa'atunw wa
qawlum ma'roof; fa izaa 'azamal amru
falaw sadaqul laaha lakaana khairal
lahum (21) Fahal 'asaitum in
tawallaitum an tufsidoo fil ardi wa
tuqatti'ooo arhaamakum (22) Ulaaa'ikal
lazeena la'anahumul laahu fa
asammahum wa a'maaa absaarahum
(23) Afalaa yatadabbaroonal Qur-aana
am 'alaa quloobin aqfaaluhaa (24) Innal
lazeenar taddoo 'alaaa adbaarihim mim
ba'di maa tabaiyana lahumul hudash

Shaitaanu sawwala lahum wa amlaa
lahum (25) Zaalika bi annahum qaaloo
lillazeena karihoo maa nazzalal laahu
sanutee'ukum fee ba'dil amri wallaahu
ya'lamu israarahum (26) Fakaifa izaa
tawaffat humul malaaa'ikatu yadriboona
wujoohahum wa adbaa rahum (27)
Zaalika bi annahumut taba'oo maaa
askhatal laaha wa karihoo ridwaanahoo
fa ahbata a'maalahum (section 3)(28)
Am hasibal lazeena fee quloobihim
maradun al lan yukhrijal laahu
adghaanahum (29) Wa law nashaaa'u la-
arainaakahum fala 'araftahum bi
seemaahum; wa lata'rifan nahum fee
lahnil qawl; wallaahu ya'lamu
a'maalakum (30) Wa lanabluwannakum
hattaa na'lamal mujaahideena minkum
wassaabireena wa nabluwa
akhbaarakum (31) Innnal lazeena
kafaroo wa saddoo 'an sabeelil laahi wa
shaaaqqur Rasoola mim ba'di maa
tabaiyana lahumul hudaa lany yadurrul
laaha shai'anw wa sa yuhbitu
a'maalahum (32) Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena
aamanoo atee'ul laaha wa atee'ur
Rasoola wa laa tubtilooo a'maalakum
(33) Innal lazeena kafaroo wa saddoo
'an sabeelil laahi summa maatoo wa
hum kuffaarun falany yaghfirallaahu
lahum (34) Falaa tahinoo wa tad'ooo ilas
salmi wa antumul a'lawna wallaahu
ma'akum wa lany yatirakum
a'maalakum (35) Innamal hayaatud
dunyaa la'ibunw wa lahw; wa in
tu'minoo wa tattaqoo yu'tikum
ujoorakum wa laa yas'alkum
amwaalakum (36) Iny yas'alkumoohaa
fa yuhfikum tabkhaloo wa yukhrij
adghaanakum (37) Haaa antum

haaa'ulaaa'i tud'awna litunfiqoo fee
sabeelillaahi faminkum many yabkhalu
wa many yabkhal fa innamaa yabkhalu
'an nafsih; wallaahu Ghaniyyu wa
antumul fuqaraaa'; wa in tatwal law
yastabdil qawman ghairakum summa
laa yakoonooo amsaalakum (section
4)(38).

Translation Chapter Al-Fath


Chapter Al-Fath (48) (48)
﴾١﴿ ‫ إِنَّا فَتَحْ نَا لَكَ فَ ْتحًّا ُّمبِينًّا‬It is a fact that We have opened for you
the way to a manifest victory (1) so that
ُ‫ لِّيَ ْغفِ َر لَكَ اللَّـهُ َما تَقَ َّد َم ِمن َذنبِكَ َو َما تَأ َ َّخ َر َويُتِ َّم نِ ْع َمتَه‬the God may provide protection for you
in the face of that which has already
﴾٢﴿ ‫ص َراطًّا ُّم ْستَقِي ًّما‬ ِ َ‫ َعلَ ْيكَ َويَ ْه ِديَك‬come up (ma taqaddama – ‫ )ما تقدم‬in the
course of your close pursuit (min
dhambik – ‫ ) ِمن ذنبِک‬and for that which
has yet to follow (ma ta’akhkhara – ‫ما‬
‫)تاخر‬, and that he may accomplish fully
His blessings upon you and guide you to
the straight path of righteousness
(siraatan mustaqeema – ‫)صراط ُمستقيما‬
﴾٣﴿ ‫َزي ًّزا‬ ِ ‫ع‬ ‫ًّا‬
‫ر‬ ْ‫َص‬ ‫ن‬ ُ ‫ه‬ ‫ـ‬َّ ‫ل‬‫ال‬ َ‫ك‬ ‫ُر‬
َ ‫ص‬ ‫ن‬َ ‫ي‬ ‫و‬
َ (2); and may also help you with a
dominant/mighty helping hand (3). It is
‫ب ْال ُم ْؤ ِمنِينَ لِيَ ْزدَا ُدوا‬ ِ ‫ هُ َو الَّ ِذي أَنزَ َل ال َّس ِكينَةَ فِي قُلُو‬He Who has bestowed peace upon the
minds of the believers in order that they
‫ت‬
ِ ‫اوا‬ َ َ‫م‬ ‫س‬
َّ ‫ال‬ ُ
‫د‬ ‫و‬ ُ ‫ن‬ ‫ج‬ُ ‫ه‬
ِ ‫ـ‬َّ ‫ل‬ِ ‫ل‬‫و‬َ ۚ ‫م‬ْ ‫ه‬ ِ
ِ َ ِ ‫ن‬ ‫ا‬ ‫م‬ ‫ي‬ ‫إ‬ ‫ع‬
َ ‫م‬
َّ ‫ا‬ ًّ ‫ن‬ ‫ا‬ ‫م‬ ‫ي‬ ‫إ‬
َ ِ might grow yet more in faith with
respect to their belief. And all forces of
﴾٤﴿ ‫ض ۚ َو َكانَ اللَّـهُ َعلِي ًّما َح ِكي ًّما‬ ِ ْ‫ر‬ َ ‫اْل‬ْ ‫و‬
َ the Cosmos and the Planet Earth are at
God’s disposal, and God keeps abreast
of everything with His wisdom (4) so
‫ت تَجْ ِري ِمن تَحْ تِهَا‬ ٍ ‫ت َجنَّا‬ ِ ‫ لِّيُ ْد ِخ َل ْال ُم ْؤ ِمنِينَ َو ْال ُم ْؤ ِمنَا‬that He may admit the believers and
their communities in a life of peace and
َ‫ ْاْلَ ْنهَا ُر خَ الِ ِدينَ فِيهَا َويُ َكفِّ َر َع ْنهُ ْم َسيِّئَاتِ ِه ْم ۚ َو َكانَ ٰ َذلِك‬protection under which abundance of
everything flows; they will live in it
﴾٥﴿ ‫َظي ًّما‬ ِ ‫ ِعن َد اللَّـ ِه فَوْ ًّزا ع‬forever and He would cover up their
errors/shortcomings (sayyi’aatihum –
‫ )سيئآتِ ِهم‬from their accounts (‘anhum –

‫)عنهُم‬. And that is, in the eyes of God, a
ِ ‫ت َو ْال ُم ْش ِر ِكينَ َو ْال ُم ْش ِر َكا‬
‫ت‬ ِ ‫ب ْال ُمنَافِقِينَ َو ْال ُمنَافِقَا‬
َ ‫َويُ َع ِّذ‬ great achievement (5). Likewise He will
punish the hypocrites and their
ُ‫الظَّانِّينَ بِاللَّـ ِه ظَ َّن السَّوْ ِء ۚ َعلَ ْي ِه ْم دَائِ َرة‬ communities, and the polytheists and
their groups who were apt to speculate
‫ب اللَّـهُ َعلَ ْي ِه ْم َولَ َعنَهُ ْم َوأَ َع َّد لَهُ ْم‬
َ ‫َض‬
ِ ‫السَّوْ ِء ۚ َوغ‬ about God in an evil way. Around them
stretches a circle of evil and God’s
﴾٦﴿ ‫صيرًّا‬ ْ ‫َجهَنَّ َم ۚ َو َسا َء‬
ِ ‫ت َم‬ wrath overwhelms them, and He has
cast them away and has prepared Hell
for them which is a condemned
‫َزي ًّزا‬ ِ ْ‫ت َو ْاْلَر‬
ِ ‫ض ۚ َو َكانَ اللَّـهُ ع‬ َ ‫َولِلَّـ ِه ُجنُو ُد ال َّس َم‬
ِ ‫اوا‬ destination (6). All forces of the Cosmos
and the Planet Earth are at God’s
﴾٧﴿ ‫َح ِكي ًّما‬ disposal, hence the God is mighty and
wise (7). We have appointed you as a
witness, a bearer of glad tidings and as a
﴾٨﴿ ‫إِنَّا أَرْ َس ْلنَاكَ َشا ِهدًّا َو ُمبَ ِّشرًّا َونَ ِذيرًّا‬
fore-warner (8) so that you all become
faithful to God and His Messenger, and
ُ‫لِّتُ ْؤ ِمنُوا بِاللَّـ ِه َو َرسُولِ ِه َوتُ َع ِّزرُوهُ َوتُ َوقِّرُوهُ َوتُ َسبِّحُوه‬ you may honor him, and hold him in
high esteem, and work hard for him
ِ َ‫بُ ْك َرةًّ َوأ‬
ًّ ‫ص‬
﴾٩﴿ ‫يَل‬
َ ‫ ) َو ُت‬collectively
(tusabbihu-hu - ُ‫س ِّبحُوُه‬
and on firm foundations (bukratan wa
َ ْ‫إِ َّن الَّ ِذينَ يُبَايِعُونَكَ إِنَّ َما يُبَايِعُونَ اللَّـهَ يَ ُد اللَّـ ِه فَو‬
‫ق‬ aseelan – ‫( )بُکرة و اصيَل‬9).
Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to
‫ث َعلَ ٰى نَ ْف ِس ِه ۚ َو َم ْن‬ َ ‫أَ ْي ِدي ِه ْم ۚ فَ َمن نَّ َك‬
ُ ‫ث فَإِنَّ َما يَن ُك‬ you they actually pledge alliance to
God; God’s hand is over their hands;
‫أَوْ فَ ٰى بِ َما عَاهَ َد َعلَ ْيهُ اللَّـهَ فَ َسي ُْؤتِي ِه أَجْ رًّا‬ therefore, those who break the oath, it is
actually breaking of oath to themselves;
﴾١٠﴿ ‫َظي ًّما‬
ِ ‫ع‬ and those who fulfill their obligations to
God, God would bestow upon them a
ِ ‫َسيَقُو ُل لَكَ ْال ُمخَ لَّفُونَ ِمنَ ْاْلَ ْع َرا‬
‫ب َش َغلَ ْتنَا أَ ْم َوالُنَا‬ great reward (10). The Arabs staying
behind would say to you that they have
َ ‫َوأَ ْهلُونَا فَا ْستَ ْغفِرْ لَنَا ۚ يَقُولُونَ بِأ َ ْل ِسنَتِ ِهم َّما لَي‬
‫ْس فِي‬ been kept busy by their responsibilities
pertaining to their cattle and their
‫ك لَ ُكم ِّمنَ اللَّـ ِه َش ْيئًّا إِ ْن أَ َرا َد بِ ُك ْم‬
ُ ِ‫قُلُوبِ ِه ْم ۚ قُلْ فَ َمن يَ ْمل‬ families, so you must ask for
forgiveness for them from God. They
َ‫ض ًّرا أَوْ أَ َرا َد بِ ُك ْم نَ ْفعًّا ۚ بَلْ َكانَ اللَّـهُ بِ َما تَ ْع َملُون‬
َ utter by their tongues what is actually
not in their hearts. Ask them as to who
﴾١١﴿ ‫خَ بِيرًّا‬ is there who commands for them such
powers from God that he can harm you
or can confer benefits on you? No, it is

only the God who knows all about your
‫ب ال َّرسُو ُل َو ْال ُم ْؤ ِمنُونَ إِلَ ٰى أَ ْهلِي ِه ْم‬ َ ِ‫ بَلْ ظَنَنتُ ْم أَن لَّن يَنقَل‬conduct (11). It is you who rather
imagined that the Messenger and the
‫ أَبَدًّا َو ُزيِّنَ ٰ َذلِكَ فِي قُلُوبِ ُك ْم َوظَنَنتُ ْم ظَ َّن السَّوْ ِء َو ُكنتُ ْم‬believers are never going to return to
their families, and it pleased your hearts
﴾١٢﴿ ‫ قَوْ ًّما بُورًّا‬to think so, and you thought of an evil
supposition because you have been a
corrupt and stagnant people (booran –
َ‫( )بورا َو َمن لَّ ْم ي ُْؤ ِمن بِاللَّـ ِه َو َرسُولِ ِه فَإِنَّا أَ ْعتَ ْدنَا لِ ْل َكافِ ِرين‬12). And bear in mind that those
who would not believe in God and His
﴾١٣﴿ ‫ َس ِعيرًّا‬Messenger, We have prepared a blazing
fire for such disbelievers (13). And do
‫ض ۚ يَ ْغفِ ُر لِ َمن يَ َشا ُء‬ ِ ْ‫ر‬َ ْ
‫اْل‬‫و‬َ ‫ت‬
ِ ‫ا‬‫او‬
َ ‫م‬
َ ‫س‬
َّ ‫ال‬ ‫ك‬ُ ْ
‫ل‬ ‫م‬
ُ ‫ه‬
ِ ‫ـ‬َّ ‫ل‬ ِ ‫ل‬‫و‬َ remember that the dominion of the
Cosmic bodies and the Planet Earth is
‫ َويُ َع ِّذبُ َمن يَ َشا ُء ۚ َو َكانَ اللَّـهُ َغفُورًّا‬reserved for God; He may forgive those
who deserve that through their deeds
﴾١٤﴿ ‫َّحي ًّما‬ ِ ‫ ر‬and may impose suffering on those who
deserve that through their deeds; and the
God is forgiving and merciful (14). But
‫ َسيَقُو ُل ْال ُمخَ لَّفُونَ إِ َذا انطَلَ ْقتُ ْم إِلَ ٰى َمغَانِ َم لِتَأْ ُخ ُذوهَا‬if you happen to set out towards some
easier acquisitions of the spoils of war
‫( َذرُونَا نَتَّبِ ْع ُك ْم ۚ ي ُِري ُدونَ أَن يُبَ ِّدلُوا َك ََل َم اللَّـ ِه ۚ قُل لَّن‬maghaanim – ‫)مغانِم‬, those staying
behind would certainly ask you to let
ْ‫ال اللَّـهُ ِمن قَ ْب ُل ۚ فَ َسيَقُولُونَ بَل‬ َ َ‫ تَتَّبِعُونَا َك ٰ َذلِ ُك ْم ق‬them accompany you. Thus they would
intend to change the God’s verdict about
﴾١٥﴿ ‫يَل‬ ًّ ِ‫تَحْ ُس ُدونَنَا ۚ بَلْ َكانُوا ََّل يَ ْفقَهُونَ إِ ََّّل قَل‬
them. Tell them, you may not
accompany us according to what the
God has already decreed about you.
Thereupon, they would say that you
begrudge them. But the fact is that they
have too little understanding of the truth
ْ ُ
ٍ ‫ب َستُ ْدعَوْ نَ إِلَ ٰى قَوْ ٍم أولِي بَأ‬
‫س‬ ِ ‫( قُل لِّ ْل ُمخَ لَّفِينَ ِمنَ ْاْلَ ْع َرا‬15). Tell these Arabs who stayed
behind: you would be invited to
ُ‫ َش ِدي ٍد تُقَاتِلُونَهُ ْم أَوْ يُ ْسلِ ُمونَ ۚ فَإِن تُ ِطيعُوا ي ُْؤتِ ُك ُم اللَّـه‬accompany us to a people who are
extremely powerful. You will have to
‫ أَجْ رًّا َح َسنًّا ۚ َوإِن تَت ََولَّوْ ا َك َما ت ََولَّ ْيتُم ِّمن قَ ْب ُل يُ َع ِّذ ْب ُك ْم‬fight against them until you subdue
them. Then if you obey the command,
﴾١٦﴿ ‫ َع َذابًّا أَلِي ًّما‬God will grace you with a beautiful
reward; but if you would turn back, as
you have done in the past, He is going

to inflict painful suffering upon you
ِ ‫ْس َعلَى ْاْلَ ْع َم ٰى َح َر ٌج َو ََّل َعلَى ْاْلَ ْع َر‬
‫ج َح َر ٌج َو ََّل‬ َ ‫لَّي‬ (16). There’s no compulsion in it for the
blind, nor for the lame, nor for the sick.
ُ‫يض َح َر ٌج ۚ َو َمن ي ُِط ِع اللَّـهَ َو َرسُولَهُ يُ ْد ِخ ْله‬
ِ ‫َعلَى ْال َم ِر‬ And those who would obey God and His
Apostle, He will admit those into a life
ُ‫ت تَجْ ِري ِمن تَحْ تِهَا ْاْلَ ْنهَا ُر ۚ َو َمن يَت ََو َّل يُ َع ِّذ ْبه‬
ٍ ‫َجنَّا‬ of peace and protection under which
rivers of abundance flow. And those
﴾١٧﴿ ‫َع َذابًّا أَلِي ًّما‬ who would turn away, He will inflict
upon them painful suffering (17). The
َ‫ض َي اللَّـهُ ع َِن ْال ُم ْؤ ِمنِينَ إِ ْذ يُبَايِعُونَكَ تَحْ ت‬
ِ ‫لَّقَ ْد َر‬ God has been pleased with the believers
when they pledge allegiance to you
‫ال َّش َج َر ِة فَ َعلِ َم َما فِي قُلُوبِ ِه ْم فَأَنزَ َل ال َّس ِكينَةَ َعلَ ْي ِه ْم‬ under a particular state of differences
and disagreement (taht ash-shajarati –
﴾١٨﴿ ‫َوأَثَابَهُ ْم فَ ْتحًّا قَ ِريبًّا‬ ‫)تحت الشجرة‬, having known what was in
their hearts; hence He bestowed inner
peace upon them and rewarded them
ْ َ ِ‫َو َمغَانِ َم َكث‬ with a forthcoming victory (18) and
ِ ‫يرةًّ يَأ ُخ ُذونَهَا ۚ َو َكانَ اللَّـهُ ع‬
‫َزي ًّزا‬
plenty of easy acquisitions
(maghaanima – ‫ )مغانِم‬which they would
﴾١٩﴿ ‫َح ِكي ًّما‬
gain and thus God’s dominance and
wisdom was established (19). And the
‫يرةًّ تَأْ ُخ ُذونَهَا فَ َعج ََّل لَ ُك ْم هَ ٰـ ِذ ِه‬
َ ِ‫َو َع َد ُك ُم اللَّـهُ َمغَانِ َم َكث‬ God has promised you plenty of war
gains which you are going to acquire,
‫اس عَن ُك ْم َولِتَ ُكونَ آيَةًّ لِّ ْل ُم ْؤ ِمنِينَ َويَ ْه ِديَ ُك ْم‬ َ ‫ف أَ ْي ِد‬
ِ َّ‫ي الن‬ َّ ‫َو َك‬
and He was prompt in disclosing this to
you, and He has withheld the people’s
﴾٢٠﴿ ‫ص َراطًّا ُّم ْستَقِي ًّما‬
ِ hands from reaching you so that it may
become a sign for the believers, and He
guides you towards a straight path (20).
َ‫َوأُ ْخ َر ٰى لَ ْم تَ ْق ِدرُوا َعلَ ْيهَا قَ ْد أَ َحاطَ اللَّـهُ بِهَا ۚ َو َكان‬ And there are other things over which
you have no access yet, of which the
﴾٢١﴿ ‫اللَّـهُ َعلَ ٰى ُكلِّ َش ْي ٍء قَ ِديرًّا‬ God has attained comprehensive
knowledge because God has power over
َ َ‫َولَوْ قَاتَلَ ُك ُم الَّ ِذينَ َكفَرُوا لَ َولَّ ُوا ْاْلَ ْدب‬
َ‫ار ثُ َّم ََّل يَ ِج ُدون‬ everything (21). And if the deniers of
truth wage war against you, they would
ِ ‫َولِيًّا َو ََّل ن‬
﴾٢٢﴿ ‫َصيرًّا‬ certainly turn their backs and will
eventually find no friend and no helper
‫ت ِمن قَ ْب ُل ۚ َولَن ت َِج َد لِ ُسن َّ ِة اللَّـ ِه‬
ْ َ‫ُسنَّةَ اللَّـ ِه الَّتِي قَ ْد خَ ل‬ (22), such being God’s established law
(sunnatullah – ‫ )سُنۃ ہللا‬which has always
ًّ ‫تَ ْب ِد‬
﴾٢٣﴿ ‫يَل‬ remained intact in the past. And never
will you find a change in God’s

established laws (23).
ََّ‫ط ِن َمكة‬ ْ َ‫ف أَ ْي ِديَهُ ْم عَن ُك ْم َوأَ ْي ِديَ ُك ْم َع ْنهُم بِب‬ َّ
َّ ‫ َوهُ َو ال ِذي َك‬And it is He who had withheld their
hands from you and your hands from
ُ َّ ُ ْ َ َ
َ‫ ِمن بَ ْع ِد أ ْن أظفَ َرك ْم َعلَ ْي ِه ْم ۚ َو َكانَ اللـهُ بِ َما تَ ْع َملون‬them in the interior of Makkah after you
had won over them because the God had
﴾٢٤﴿ ‫صيرًّا‬ ِ َ‫ ب‬been monitoring your entire operation
(24). Those were the people who had
ْ
َ ‫ْج ِد ال َح َر ِام َوالهَ ْد‬
‫ي‬ ْ ْ
ِ ‫ص ُّدو ُك ْم ع َِن ال َمس‬ َّ
َ ‫ هُ ُم ال ِذينَ َكفَرُوا َو‬chosen the way of denial, hindered your
way (saddu-kum – ‫ )صدو ُکم‬towards the
َّ
‫ َم ْع ُكوفًّا أن يَ ْبل َغ َم ِحلهُ ۚ َولَوْ ََّل ِر َجا ٌل ُّم ْؤ ِمنُونَ َونِ َسا ٌء‬pursuit ُ َ of Inviolable Divine
Commandments (al-Masjid al-Haraam -
ٌ‫صيبَ ُكم ِّم ْنهُم َّم َع َّرة‬ َ
ِ ُ‫َات ل ْم تَ ْعلَ ُموهُ ْم أن تَطَئُوهُ ْم فَت‬ َّ ٌ ‫ )مسجد الحرام ُّم ْؤ ِمن‬and prevented/detained
(ma’kufan – ‫ )معکوفا‬the character
َّ
ْ‫ بِ َغي ِْر ِعل ٍم ۚ لِّيُ ْد ِخ َل اللـهُ فِي َرحْ َمتِ ِه َمن يَ َشا ُء ۚ لَو‬building values (al-hadya – ‫ )الهدی‬toْ
spread and reach their right place
َ َّ َّ
﴾٢٥﴿ ‫( تَزَ يَّلُوا لَ َعذ ْبنَا ال ِذينَ َكفَرُوا ِم ْنهُ ْم َع َذابًّا ألِي ًّما‬yablugha mahilla-hu – ‫)يبلُغ محلہ‬. And
because there were, among them, such
faithful men and women whom you
could not know about, so it was feared
they may sustain harm by your hands
making you guilty, while the God did
want to admit in His fold of mercy
everyone who was entitled to that.
Therefore, had you been able to
distinguish and separate (tazayyalu –
‫ )تزيلُوا‬them, we would certainly have
inflicted upon the unbelievers a painful
‫ إِ ْذ َج َع َل الَّ ِذينَ َكفَرُوا فِي قُلُوبِ ِه ُم ْال َح ِميَّةَ َح ِميَّةَ ْال َجا ِهلِيَّ ِة‬punishment (25). While the disbelievers
do harbor anger and disdain in their
ْ ْ َ َ َ َ
َ‫ فأ َل اللـهُ َس ِكينتهُ َعل ٰى َرسُولِ ِه َو َعلى ال ُمؤ ِمنِين‬hearts – the anger and disdain of َّ َ‫نز‬ َ َ
ignorance – God has also bestowed
َ َ ْ َ َّ َ ُ َ ٰ ْ َّ
َ‫ َوأل َمهُ ْم كلِ َمة التق َوى َوكانوا أ َحق بِهَا َوأهلهَا ۚ َوكان‬inner peace upon His Messenger and َ َ َ‫ز‬ ْ َ
upon the believers and bound them with
ُ
﴾٢٦﴿ ‫ اللـهُ بِكلِّ َش ْي ٍء َعلِي ًّما‬God-consciousness because they were َّ
most worthy of it, and deserved it, and
because the God was aware of all the
happenings (26).
‫ق ۚ لَتَ ْد ُخلُ َّن‬ ِّ ‫ق اللَّـهُ َرسُولَهُ الرُّ ْؤيَا بِ ْال َح‬ َ ‫ص َد‬ َ ‫ لَّقَ ْد‬God has attested the truth of his
Messenger’s vision. God willing, you
‫ْج َد ْال َح َرا َم إِن َشا َء اللَّـهُ آ ِمنِينَ ُم َحلِّقِينَ ُر ُءو َس ُك ْم‬ ِ ‫ ْال َمس‬will most certainly enter the phase of

complete submission to inviolable
َ َ
‫صِّرينَ ََّل تَخَ افونَ ۚ فَ َعلِ َم َما ل ْم تَ ْعل ُموا فَ َج َع َل ِمن‬ ُ ِ َ‫ َو ُمق‬divine commands (almasjid alhraam –
‫ )المسجد الحرام‬in full security (aamineen –
﴾٢٧﴿ ‫ون َذلِكَ فَتحًّا قَ ِريبًّا‬ ْ ٰ
ِ ‫)آ ِمنين ُد‬, taking your commanders in your
circles (mohalliqeena ru’oosakum –
‫ ) ُمحلقين رُءوس ُکم‬and holding yourself
firmly together (muqassireena – ‫) ُمقصرين‬
without fearing; for He has known what
you do not know, therefore, without
your knowledge (dooni dhaalika – ‫ون‬ ِ ‫ُد‬
ٰ
‫)ذلک‬, He has ordained a victory near at
‫ُظ ِه َر ُه‬ ْ ‫ق لِي‬ ِّ ‫ين ْال َح‬ ِ َِ‫د‬ ‫و‬ ٰ
‫َى‬‫د‬ ُ ‫ه‬ ْ
‫ال‬ ِ ‫ب‬ ُ ‫ه‬ َ ‫ل‬ ‫ُو‬ ‫س‬ ‫ر‬
َ َ َ ‫ل‬ ‫س‬ ْ‫ر‬ َ ‫أ‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ذ‬ِ َ َّ ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ‫و‬ ُ ‫ه‬ hand (27). He it is Who has deputed His
Messenger with divine guidance and a
َ َّ
﴾٢٨﴿ ‫ِّين كل ِه ۚ َوكف ٰى بِاللـ ِه ش ِهيدًّا‬ َ َ ِّ ُ َ
ِ ‫ َعلى الد‬discipline of truthful conduct (deenil
haqq – ‫)دين الحق‬ ِ in order that it may
prevail over all other disciplines; and the
God is sufficient as a witness to that
(28).
‫ار‬ َّ ُ ْ َ َّ َ َّ
ِ ‫ ُّم َح َّمد َّرسُو ُل اللـ ِه ۚ َوال ِذينَ َم َعهُ أ ِشدا ُء َعلى الكف‬Mohammad is God’s Messenger; and َّ ٌ
those with him are firmly stern towards
ًّ َ ُ
َ‫ُح َما ُء بَ ْينَهُ ْم ۚ ت ََراهُ ْم ُركعًّا ُس َّجدًّا يَ ْبتَغونَ فضْ َل ِّمن‬ َّ َ ‫ ر‬disbelievers, merciful towards one
another. You can see them bowing and
َ‫ اللَّـ ِه َو ِرضْ َوانًّا ۚ ِسي َماهُ ْم فِي ُوجُو ِه ِهم ِّم ْن أَث ِر‬submitting in obedience, seeking favor
from God and approval; there are signs
ُ َ َّ ُ َ
‫ ال ُّسجُو ِد ۚ ذلِكَ َمثلهُ ْم فِي التوْ َرا ِة ۚ َو َمثلهُ ْم فِي‬on their faces reflecting the effects of a َ ٰ
total submission to God (athar as-sujood
َ َ ْ
‫ع أخ َر َج َشطأهُ فَآزَ َرهُ فَا ْستَغلظ فَا ْستَ َو ٰى‬ َ ْ ْ َ ٍ ْ‫يل كَزَ ر‬ ِ ‫اْلن ِج‬ ْ
ِ – ‫)اثر السجود‬. That is their description in
At-Torah, and their description in the
َّ ُ ْ
‫ْجبُ الزرَّا َع لِيَ ِغيظ بِ ِه ُم الكفا َر ۚ َو َع َد‬ َ ُّ َ
ِ ‫ َعل ٰى سُوقِ ِه يُع‬Gospel; like a crop that brings forth its
shoot, then strengthens it, then grows
ًّ‫ت ِم ْنهُم َّم ْغفِ َرة‬ ِ ‫ اللَّـهُ الَّ ِذينَ آ َمنُوا َو َع ِملُوا الصَّالِ َحا‬stout, then stands firm on its stem,
delighting the grower, so that through
﴾٢٩﴿ ‫ َوأَجْ رًّا َع ِظي ًّما‬this process he can put the disbelievers
in distress (li-yugheez – ‫)لِيُغيظ‬. God has
promised those who have attained to
faith and who among them have
performed reformative deeds,
forgiveness and protection and
forgiveness (maghfiratun – ‫ )مغفِرة‬and
great rewards (29).

'alaihim daaa'iratus saw'i wa ghadibal
laahu 'alaihim wa la'anahum wa a'adda
lahum jahannama wa saaa' at maseeraa
(6) Wa lillaahi junoodus samaawaati
wal ard; wa kaanal laahu 'azeezan
hakeema (7) Innaaa arsalnaaka shaahi
danw wa mubashshiranw wa nazeera (8)
Litu minoo billaahi wa Rasoolihee wa
tu'azziroohu watuwaqqiroohu watusabbi
hoohu bukratanw wa aseelaa (9) Innal
lazeena yubaayi'oonaka innamaa
yubaayi'oonal laaha yadul laahi fawqa
aydehim; faman nakasa fainnamaa
yuankusu 'alaa nafsihee wa man awfaa
bimaa 'aahada 'alihul laaha fasa yu'teehi
ajran 'azeemaa (section 1)(10) Sa

mukhalla foona izan talaqtum ilaa
maghaanima litaakhuzoohaa zaroonaa
nattabi'kum yureedoona any yubaddiloo
Kalaamallaah; qul lan tattabi'oonaa
kazaalikum qaalal laahu min qablu fasa
yaqooloona bal tahsudoonanna; bal
kaanoo laa yafqahoona illaa qaleela (15)
Qul lilmukhallafeena minal A'raabi
satud'awna ilaa qawmin ulee baasin
shadeedin tuqaati loonahum aw
yuslimoona fa in tutee'oo yu'tikumul
laahu ajran hasananw wa in tatawallaw
kamaa tawallaitum min qablu
yu'azzibkum 'azaaban aleemaa (16)

qaatalakumul lazeena kafaroo la
wallawul adbaara summa laa yajidoona
waliyanw-wa laa naseeraa (22) Sunnatal
laahil latee qad khalat min qablu wa lan
tajida lisunnatil laahi tabdeelaa (23) Wa
Huwal lazee kaffa aydiyahum 'ankum
wa aydiyakum 'anhum bibatni Makkata
mim ba'di an azfarakum 'alaihim; wa
kaanal laahu bimaa ta'maloona Baseera
(24) Humul lazeena kafaroo wa
saddookum 'anil-Masjidil-Haraami
walhadya ma'koofan any yablugha
mahillah; wa law laa rijaalum
mu'minoona wa nisaaa'um mu'minaatul
lam ta'lamoohum an tata'oohum
fatuseebakum minhum ma'arratum
bighairi 'ilmin liyud khilal laahu fee
rahmatihee many yashaaa'; law
tazayyaloo la'azzabnal lazeena kafaroo
minhum 'azaaban aleema (25) Iz ja'alal
lazeena kafaroo fee quloobihimul
hamiyyata hamiyyatal jaahiliyyati fa
anzalal laahu sakeenatahoo 'alaa
Rasoolihee wa 'alal mu mineena wa
alzamahum kalimatat taqwaa wa
kaanooo ahaqqa bihaa wa ahlahaa; wa
kaanal laahu bikulli shai'in

fastaghlaza fastawaa 'alaa sooqihee
yu'jibuz zurraa'a liyagheeza bihimul
kuffaar; wa'adal laahul lazeena aamanoo
wa 'amilus saalihaati minhum
maghfiratanw wa ajran

Chapter Al-Hujuraat (49)
Hujuraat (49)
ِ ‫یَا أَیُّ َها الَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا َال تُقَ ِّد ُموا بَیْنَ یَد‬
‫َي اللَّـ ِه‬
O people of faith and peace, do not
َ َ‫سولِ ِه ۙ َواتَّقُوا اللَّـهَ ۙ إِنَّ اللَّـه‬
‫س ِمی ٌع‬ ُ ‫َو َر‬ assert yourselves in the presence of
divine authority (Allah wa Rasuli-hi –
﴾١﴿ ‫َعلِی ٌم‬ ‫ ;)ہللا و رسولہ‬and be mindful of God as
the God, indeed, is constantly
monitoring and remains aware of
‫ت‬
ِ ‫ص ْو‬
َ ‫ق‬ ْ َ‫یَا أَیُّ َها الَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا َال ت َْرفَعُوا أ‬
َ ‫ص َواتَ ُك ْم فَ ْو‬ your conduct (1). O people of faith
and peace do not raise your voices
‫ض أَن‬ ِ ‫النَّبِ ِّي َو َال ت َْج َه ُروا لَهُ بِا ْلقَ ْو ِل َك َج ْه ِر بَ ْع‬
ٍ ‫ض ُك ْم لِبَ ْع‬ above the voice of your Leader and do
not be loud in your discourse with
ْ َ‫ت َْحبَطَ أَ ْع َمالُ ُك ْم َوأَنتُ ْم َال ت‬
﴾٢﴿ َ‫ش ُع ُرون‬ him like the loudness you indulge in

with one another, lest you waste what
you have gained by your deeds
َ‫ول اللَّـ ِه أُولَ ٰـئِك‬
ِ ‫س‬ ْ َ‫ضونَ أ‬
ُ ‫ص َواتَ ُه ْم ِعن َد َر‬ ُّ ‫إِنَّ الَّ ِذینَ یَ ُغ‬ without your being aware of it (2).
Indeed, those who lower their voices
‫الَّ ِذینَ ا ْمت ََحنَ اللَّـهُ قُلُوبَ ُه ْم لِلتَّ ْق َو ٰى ۙ لَ ُهم َّم ْغفِ َرةٌ َوأَ ْج ٌر‬ in the presence of God’s Messenger, it
is they whose minds have been
﴾٣﴿ ‫ع َِظی ٌم‬ examined by God for their
circumspection; so there’s for them
divine forgiveness and a great reward
‫ت أَ ْكثَ ُر ُه ْم َال‬
ِ ‫إِنَّ الَّ ِذینَ یُنَادُونَكَ ِمن َو َرا ِء ا ْل ُح ُج َرا‬ (3). And indeed, those who call you
loudly (yunaaduna-ka – ‫ )یُنادونک‬over
﴾٤﴿ َ‫یَ ْعقِلُون‬ and above (min waraa’a – ‫) ِمن وراء‬
these prohibitions/restrictions
(alhujuraat – ‫)الحجرات‬, most of them
َ ‫َولَ ْو أَنَّ ُه ْم‬
‫صبَ ُروا َحتَّ ٰى ت َْخ ُر َج إِلَ ْی ِه ْم لَ َكانَ َخ ْی ًّرا‬ suffer from lack of reason (4). Had
they been patient until you come forth
﴾٥﴿ ‫لَّ ُه ْم ۙ َواللَّـهُ َغفُو ٌر َّر ِحی ٌم‬ to them, it would have been for their
own good, as the God is forgiving and
merciful (5).
‫ق بِنَبَإ ٍ فَتَبَیَّنُوا أَن‬ ِ َ‫یَا أَیُّ َها الَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا إِن َجا َء ُك ْم ف‬
ٌ ‫اس‬ O people of faith and peace, if a
criminal minded individual comes to
‫ُصبِ ُحوا َعلَ ٰى َما فَ َع ْلتُ ْم‬
ْ ‫ُصیبُوا قَ ْو ًّما بِ َج َهالَ ٍة فَت‬
ِ ‫ت‬ you with some news, you must always
investigate it, lest you should hurt a
﴾٦﴿ َ‫نَا ِد ِمین‬ community unwittingly and feel
remorse upon what you have done to
ُ ‫َوا ْعلَ ُموا أَنَّ فِی ُك ْم َر‬
‫سو َل اللَّـ ِه ۙ لَ ْو یُ ِطی ُع ُك ْم فِي َكثِی ٍر‬ them (6). And take cognizance of the
fact that God’s Messenger is among
ُ‫اْلی َمانَ َوزَ یَّنَه‬ َ َّ‫ِّمنَ ْاْلَ ْم ِر لَ َعنِتُّ ْم َولَ ٰـ ِكنَّ اللَّـهَ َحب‬
ِ ْ ‫ب إِلَ ْی ُك ُم‬ you. If he were to follow your whims
on most of the issues you would surely
‫ق‬ ُ ُ‫فِي قُلُوبِ ُك ْم َو َك َّرهَ إِلَ ْی ُك ُم ا ْل ُك ْف َر َوا ْلف‬
َ ‫سو‬ be in trouble, but the God has made
our faith dear to you and has adorned
ِ ‫صیَانَ ۙ أُولَ ٰـئِكَ ُه ُم ال َّر‬
﴾٧﴿ َ‫اشدُون‬ ْ ‫َوا ْل ِع‬ your minds with it and has made
hateful to you the denial of truth and
the rotten deeds and the rebellion.
Such are they who are the guided
﴾٨﴿ ‫ض ًَّل ِّمنَ اللَّـ ِه َونِ ْع َمةًّ ۙ َواللَّـهُ َعلِی ٌم َح ِكی ٌم‬
ْ َ‫ف‬ ones (7), by way of God’s blessings
and favor as the God is all knowing
ْ َ ‫َان ِمنَ ا ْل ُم ْؤ ِمنِینَ ا ْقتَتَلُوا فَأ‬
‫صلِ ُحوا‬ ِ ‫َوإِن طَائِفَت‬ and wise (8). Moreover, if two groups
of the faithful communities fight
‫بَ ْینَهُ َما ۙ فَإِن بَ َغتْ إِ ْحدَا ُه َما َعلَى ْاْلُ ْخ َر ٰى فَقَاتِلُوا الَّتِي‬ against each other make peace

between them; but if one of them has
‫صلِ ُحوا‬ َ َ َ َ َّ َ َ
ْ ‫ تَ ْب ِغي َحت َّ ٰى تَفِي َء إِل ٰى أ ْم ِر اللـ ِه ۙ فإِن فا َءتْ فأ‬oppressed the other one, then fight
the one which has committed
‫سطوا ۙ إِنَّ اللَّـهَ یُ ِح ُّب‬ ُ ْ َ ْ
ِ ‫ بَ ْینَهُ َما بِال َعد ِْل َوأق‬oppression until it reverts to God’s
command. Also if it fulfils its
﴾٩﴿ َ‫س ِطین‬ ِ ‫ ا ْل ُم ْق‬obligations, then make a settlement
between them with justice and fair
play. God certainly loves those who
‫صلِ ُحوا بَیْنَ أَ َخ َو ْی ُك ْم ۙ َواتَّقُوا‬ ْ َ ‫أ‬َ ‫ف‬ ٌ ‫ة‬ ‫و‬ ْ
‫خ‬ ‫إ‬ ُ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬ ‫ؤ‬ ْ ‫م‬ ْ
‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ا‬
َ ِ َ‫ ِ َ ُ ِ ون‬exercise justice (9). It is so that the‫م‬ َّ ‫ن‬ ‫إ‬
faithful are a single fraternity, so
﴾١٠﴿ َ‫ اللَّـهَ لَ َعلَّ ُك ْم ت ُْر َح ُمون‬make settlement among your
brethren and be conscious of God so
َ
‫س ٰى أن‬ َ
َ ‫سخ ْر ق ْو ٌم ِّمن ق ْو ٍم َع‬ َ َ َ ُ َّ
ْ َ‫ یَا أیُّ َها ال ِذینَ آ َمنوا ال ی‬that you are blessed with His mercy َ
and sustenance (10). O people of faith
َُّ‫س ٰى أَن یَكن‬ َ ‫سا ٍء َع‬ ِّ
َ ‫سا ٌء ِّمن ن‬ َ ْ َ
َ ِ‫ یَكونوا خ ْی ًّرا ِّمن ُه ْم َوال ن‬and peace, no well-established class ُ ُ
(qoum – ‫ )قوم‬may ridicule other well-
ُ َ
‫سك ْم َوال تَنابَزوا‬ َ ُ ُ َ ُ ْ َ
َ ‫ خ ْی ًّرا ِّمن ُهنَّ ۙ َوال تَل ِمزوا أنف‬established people; it may well be that ْ َ
the others are better than themselves;
‫ان ۙ َو َمن‬ ِ ‫اْلی َم‬ ْ
ِ ‫ق بَ ْع َد‬ ُ ‫سو‬ ُ
ُ ‫س ُم الف‬ ْ ْ ‫ْس ِاال‬ َ ‫ب ۙ بِئ‬ َ ْ َ ْ
ِ ‫ بِاْللقا‬and no weaker segment of public
(nisaa – ‫ )نِساء‬should do so with other
َّ َ
﴾١١﴿ َ‫ ل ْم یَت ُْب فأول ٰـئِكَ ُه ُم الظالِ ُمون‬weaker people of their society; it may ُ َ َّ
well be that the others are better than
themselves; and do not incriminate
your own people, and do not insult
one another by calling with
nicknames (aqaab – ‫)القاب‬. The worst
attribute (bi’sal-ismu – ‫االس ُم‬
ِ ‫ )بئس‬is to
commit crimes/sins after attaining to
faith; and they who do not revert
from such conduct, they are the
unjust tyrants (11).
‫ض‬َ ‫اجتَنِبُوا َكثِی ًّرا ِّمنَ الظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَ ْع‬ ْ ‫ یَا أَیُّ َها الَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا‬O people of faith and peace, abstain
from conjecture to the maximum
‫ض ُكم‬ ُ ‫سوا َو َال یَ ْغتَب بَّ ْع‬ ُ ‫س‬ َّ ‫ الظَّنِّ إِ ْث ٌم ۙ َو َال ت ََج‬extent for some of the conjecture is
sin; and do not spy and do not speak
‫ضا ۙ أَیُ ِح ُّب أَ َح ُد ُك ْم أَن یَأْ ُك َل لَ ْح َم أَ ِخی ِه َم ْیتًّا‬ ًّ ‫ بَ ْع‬ill of one another in their absence.
Would any one of you like to eat his
ٌ ‫ فَ َك ِر ْهتُ ُموهُ ۙ َواتَّقُوا اللَّـهَ ۙ إِنَّ اللَّـهَ تَ َّو‬dead brother’s flesh? Therefore, you
‫اب‬
must loathe it! And be conscious of
﴾١٢﴿ ‫ َّر ِحی ٌم‬God because the God is indeed

acceptor of repentance and merciful
‫اس إِنَّا َخلَ ْقنَا ُكم ِّمن َذ َك ٍر َوأُنثَ ٰى َو َج َع ْلنَا ُك ْم‬
ُ َّ‫یَا أَیُّ َها الن‬ (12). O human kind, We have created
you from male and female and have
‫ارفُوا ۙ إِنَّ أَ ْك َر َم ُك ْم ِعن َد اللَّـ ِه‬
َ ‫ش ُعوبًّا َوقَبَائِ َل لِتَ َع‬
ُ divided you into nations and tribes, so
that you might know one another.
﴾١٣﴿ ‫أَ ْتقَا ُك ْم ۙ إِنَّ اللَّـهَ َعلِی ٌم َخبِی ٌر‬ Indeed, the noblest of you in the sight
of the God is the one most conscious
of Him. God is certainly all-knowing
and all-aware.(13)
ُ ‫ت ْاْلَع َْر‬
‫اب آ َمنَّا ۙ قُل لَّ ْم ت ُْؤ ِمنُوا َولَ ٰـ ِكن قُولُوا‬ ِ َ‫قَال‬ So said the Arab folks: “We have
attained to faith and peace”. Tell
‫اْلی َمانُ فِي قُلُوبِ ُك ْم ۙ َوإِن ت ُِطی ُعوا‬ ْ َ‫أ‬
ِ ْ ‫سلَ ْمنَا َولَ َّما یَد ُْخ ِل‬ them: “you have not attained to faith
and peace, but you must say ‘we have
َ ‫سولَهُ َال یَلِ ْت ُكم ِّمنْ أَ ْع َمالِ ُك ْم‬
َ‫ش ْیئًّا ۙ إِنَّ اللَّـه‬ ُ ‫اللَّـهَ َو َر‬ surrendered’ – for the faith has not
yet entered in your hearts; and if you
﴾١٤﴿ ‫َغفُو ٌر َّر ِحی ٌم‬ obey the divine authority, He will not
let the least of your deeds go waste;
for the God is indeed forgiving and
‫سولِ ِه ثُ َّم لَ ْم‬
ُ ‫إِنَّ َما ا ْل ُم ْؤ ِمنُونَ الَّ ِذینَ آ َمنُوا بِاللَّـ ِه َو َر‬ merciful” (14). As for the people of
faith and peace who have believed in
‫یل‬
ِ ِ ‫سب‬ ِ ُ‫یَ ْرتَابُوا َو َجا َهدُوا بِأ َ ْم َوالِ ِه ْم َوأَنف‬
َ ‫س ِه ْم فِي‬ Allah and His Messenger, then have
not doubted their conviction, and
َّ ‫اللَّـ ِه ۙ أُولَ ٰـئِكَ ُه ُم ال‬
﴾١٥﴿ َ‫صا ِدقُون‬ have strived hard with their
possessions and their lives in the way
of God, it is they who are the truthful
ones about their faith (15). Is it you
‫ت‬
ِ ‫اوا‬ َّ ‫قُ ْل أَتُ َعلِّ ُمونَ اللَّـهَ بِ ِدینِ ُك ْم َواللَّـهُ یَ ْعلَ ُم َما فِي ال‬
َ ‫س َم‬
who would explain to the God about
your Deen/conduct, while the God is
ِ ‫َو َما فِي ْاْلَ ْر‬
already well aware of all that is there
ْ ‫ض ۙ َواللَّـهُ بِ ُك ِّل ش‬
‫َي ٍء‬
in all the celestial bodies and on the
﴾١٦﴿ ‫َعلِی ٌم‬ Planet Earth? In fact, God possesses
the knowledge of everything (16).
ْ َ‫یَ ُمنُّونَ َعلَ ْیكَ أَنْ أ‬
‫سلَ ُموا ۙ قُل َّال تَ ُمنُّوا َعلَ َّي‬ They think they bestow a favor upon
you by surrendering/submitting; Tell
them, “Don’t oblige me by your
ِ ‫س ََل َم ُكم ۙ بَ ِل اللَّـهُ یَ ُمنُّ َعلَ ْی ُك ْم أَنْ َهدَا ُك ْم لِ ْ ِْلی َم‬
‫ان إِن‬ ْ ِ‫إ‬
surrender/submission; on the
‫ت‬
ِ ‫اوا‬ َ ‫﴾ إِنَّ اللَّـهَ یَ ْعلَ ُم َغ ْی‬١٧﴿ َ‫صا ِدقِین‬
َ ‫ُكنتُ ْم‬ contrary, it is the God who has
َ ‫س َم‬
َّ ‫ب ال‬
bestowed a favor upon you by guiding
ِ ‫َو ْاْلَ ْر‬
ِ َ‫ض ۙ َواللَّـهُ ب‬
﴾١٨﴿ َ‫صی ٌر بِ َما تَ ْع َملُون‬ you towards the way of faith, if you
have come to it with truth” (17).

Indeed God knows the hidden reality
of the celestial bodies and the Planet
Earth, and thus, God monitors all
that you are doing (18)."

Transliteration:
Yaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo la
tuqaddimoo baina yada yil laahi wa
Rasoolihee wattaqul laah; innal laaha
samee'un 'Aleem (1) Yaa ayyuhal
lazeena aamanoo laa tarfa'ooo
aswaatakum fawqa sawtin Nabiyi wa laa
tajharoo lahoo bilqawli kajahri ba'dikum
liba 'din an tahbata a 'maalukum wa
antum laa tash'uroon (2)
Innal lazeena yaghud doona
aswaatahum 'inda Rasoolil laahi
ulaaa'ikal lazeenam tah anal laahu
quloobahum littaqwaa; lahum
maghfiratunw waajrun 'azeem (3) Innal
lazeena yunaadoo naka minw waraaa'il
hujuraati aksaruhum laa ya'qiloon (4)
Wa law annahum sabaroo hatta takhruja
ilaihim lakaana khairal lahum; wallaahu
Ghafoorur Raheem (5) Yaaa ayyuhal
lazeena aamanoo in jaaa'akum faasqum
binaba in fatabaiyanooo an tuseeboo
qawmam bijahalatin fatusbihoo 'alaa
maa fa'altum naadimeen (6) Wa'lamooo
anna feekum Rasoolal laah; law
yutee'ukum fee kaseerim minal
amrila'anittum wa laakinnal laaha
habbaba ilaikumul eemaana wa
zaiyanahoo fee quloobikum wa karraha
ilaikumul kufra walfusooqa wal'isyaan;
ulaaaika humur raashidoon (7) Fadlam
minal laahi wa ni'mah; wallaahu
'Aleemun Hakeem (8) Wa in
taaa'ifataani minal mu'mineena
naqtataloo fa aslihoo bainahumaa; fa-im

baghat ihdaahumaa 'alal ukhraa
faqaatilul latee tabghee hattaa tafeee'a
ilaaa amril laah; fa-in faaa'at fa aslihoo
bainahumaa bil'adli wa aqsitoo, innal
laaha yuhibbul muqsiteen.
Innamal mu'minoona ikhwatun fa
aslihoo baina akhawaykum wattaqul
laaha la'allakum tuhamoon (9) (section
1)Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo laa
yaskhar qawmum min qawmin 'asaaa
anyyakoonoo khairam minhum wa laa
nisaaa'um min nisaaa'in 'Asaaa ay
yakunna khairam minhunna wa laa
talmizooo anfusakum wa laa tanaabazoo
bil alqaab; bi'sal ismul fusooqu ba'dal
eemaan; wa mal-lam yatub fa-ulaaa'ika
humuz zaalimoon (10) Yaaa ayyuhal
lazeena aamanuj taniboo kaseeram
minaz zanni inna ba'daz zanniismunw
wa laa tajassasoo wa la yaghtab
ba'dukum ba'daa; a yuhibbu ahadukum
any yaakula lahma akheehi maitan
fakarih tumooh; wattaqul laa; innal
laaha tawwaabur Raheem (11) Yaaa
ayyuhan naasu innaa khalaqnaakum min
zakarinw wa unsaa wa ja'alnaakum
shu'oobanw wa qabaaa'ila lita'aarafoo
inna akramakum 'indal laahi atqaakum
innal laaha 'Aleemun khabeer (12)
Qaalatil-A 'raabu aamannaa qul lam
tu'minoo wa laakin qoolooo aslamnaa
wa lamma yadkhulil eemaanu fee
quloobikum wa in tutee'ul laaha wa
Rasoolahoo laa yalitkum min
a'maalikum shai'aa; innal laaha
Ghafoorur Raheem (13) Innamal
muu'minoonal lazeena aamanoo billaahi
wa Rasoolihee summa lam yartaaboo
wa jaahadoo biamwaalihim wa
anfusihim fee sabeelil laah; ulaaaika

atu'allimoonal laaha bideenikum
wallaahu ya'lamu maa fis samaawaati
wa maa fil ard; wallaahu bikulli shai'in
'Aleem (16) Yamunnoona 'alaika an
aslamoo qul laa tamunnoo 'alaiya
Islaamakum balillaahu yamunnu
'alaikum an hadaakum lil eemaani in
kuntum saadiqeen (17) Innal laaha
ya'lamu ghaibas samaawaati wal ard;
wallaahu baseerum bimaa
ta'maloon (18).

Chapter Qaaf (50) Translation Chapter Qaaf (50)

﴾١﴿ ‫آن ْال َم ِجي ِد‬ ِ ْ‫ ق ۚ َو ْالقُر‬Human conscience (Qaaf – ‫ )ق‬and the
Glorious Quran are witness to the fact
‫ال ْال َكافِرُونَ هَ ٰـ َذا‬ َ َ‫ بَلْ ع َِجبُوا أَن َجا َءهُم ُّمن ِذ ٌر ِّم ْنهُ ْم فَق‬that (1) the Deniers of truth rather
wondered that a warner has come to
﴾٢﴿ ٌ‫ َش ْي ٌء ع َِجيب‬them from among their own people; so
they declared it to be a strange event
ٰ
﴾٣﴿ ‫( أَإِ َذا ِم ْتنَا َو ُكنَّا تُ َرابًّا ۚ َذلِكَ َرجْ ٌع بَ ِعي ٌد‬shayin ‘ajeebunh – ‫( )شئی عجيب‬2). They
said: “What & how! Once we have died
and become dust, then a return to life
(rajj’un – ‫ )رجع‬must be far from reality
ٌ‫( قَ ْد َعلِ ْمنَا َما تَنقُصُ ْاْلَرْ ضُ ِم ْنهُ ْم ۚ َو ِعن َدنَا ِكتَاب‬ba’eed – ‫( ”)بعيد‬3). However, it is
known to US as to what part of them the
﴾٤﴿ ٌ‫ َحفِيظ‬earth is going to consume, and We do
have a securing and safeguarding
procedure/system (kitabun hafeez –
‫ق لَ َّما َجا َءهُ ْم فَهُ ْم فِي أَ ْم ٍر‬ ِّ ‫ )کتاب حفيظ بَلْ َك َّذبُوا بِ ْال َح‬for this process (4). In fact
they had rejected the truth when it came
﴾٥﴿ ‫يج‬ ٍ ‫ َّم ِر‬to them and then they fell into a state of
confusion (5).

‫أَفَلَ ْم يَنظُرُوا إِلَى ال َّس َما ِء فَوْ قَهُ ْم َك ْيفَ بَنَ ْينَاهَا َو َزيَّنَّاهَا‬
Do they not observe the Universe above
them as to how We have built it and
ٍ ‫ َو َما لَهَا ِمن فُر‬adorned/equipped it that it has no
﴾٦﴿ ‫ُوج‬

loopholes in its functions (ma laha min
ِ ‫ض َم َد ْدنَاهَا َوأَ ْلقَ ْينَا فِيهَا َر َو‬
‫اس َي َوأَنبَ ْتنَا فِيهَا ِمن‬ َ ْ‫َو ْاْلَر‬ furooj – ‫(?)ما لها من فروج‬6) And the
Planet Earth that We have stretched
﴾٧﴿ ‫يج‬ ٍ ْ‫ُكلِّ زَ و‬
ٍ ‫ج بَ ِه‬ wide and fixed into it mountains and
grew in it all kinds of plants (7), for
ٍ ‫ْص َرةًّ َو ِذ ْك َر ٰى لِ ُكلِّ َع ْب ٍد ُّمنِي‬
﴾٨﴿ ‫ب‬ ِ ‫تَب‬ observance and taking lessons by every
obedient subject of ours (8). And We
ٍ ‫َونَ َّز ْلنَا ِمنَ ال َّس َما ِء َما ًّء ُّمبَا َر ًّكا فَأَنبَ ْتنَا بِ ِه َجنَّا‬
َّ‫ت َو َحب‬ sent down from the heights blessed
waters, then We grew with it thickly
ِ ‫ْال َح‬
﴾٩﴿ ‫صي ِد‬ covered gardens and grains to reap
(habb-ul-haseed – ‫( )حب الحصيد‬9); and
ِ َّ ‫ت لَّهَا طَ ْل ٌع ن‬
﴾١٠﴿ ‫ضي ٌد‬ ِ َ‫َوالنَّ ْخ َل ب‬
ٍ ‫اسقَا‬ tall palm-trees having clustered dates
(10) as provisions for our subjects; and
َ‫رِّ ْزقًّا لِّ ْل ِعبَا ِد ۚ َوأَحْ يَ ْينَا بِ ِه بَ ْل َدةًّ َّم ْيتًّا ۚ َك ٰ َذلِك‬ with that we infuse life into dead
lands/human settlements. So, the
﴾١١﴿ ‫ْال ُخرُو ُج‬ coming forth from death (al-khurooj –
‫ )الخروج‬is also going to take place the
same way (kazaalika – ‫( )کذلِک‬11).

ِّ‫وح َوأَصْ َحابُ الرَّس‬ ْ َ‫َك َّذب‬


ٍ ُ‫ت قَ ْبلَهُ ْم قَوْ ُم ن‬ Before them the community of Noah
also denied this destiny and so did the
﴾١٢﴿ ‫ َوثَ ُمو ُد‬dwellers of Al-Rass region (ashaab-al-
Rass – ‫ )اصحاب الرس‬and the people of
﴾١٣﴿ ‫ان لُو ٍط‬ ُ ‫ َوعَا ٌد َوفِرْ عَوْ ُن َوإِ ْخ َو‬Thamud (12); and ‘Aad and Faroah and
Lot’s brethren (13); and the
َ ‫ َوأَصْ َحابُ ْاْلَ ْي َك ِة َوقَوْ ُم تُب ٍَّع ۚ ُكلٌّ َك َّذ‬communities of Al-Ayikati (proper
َّ ‫ب الرُّ س َُل فَ َح‬
‫ق‬
nown) and of Tubba’in (Tubba’in – ‫)تُبع‬,
﴾١٤﴿ ‫ َو ِعي ِد‬all of them denied the Apostles, so My
warning became a reality (14).

ٍ ‫س ِّم ْن خَ ْل‬
‫ق‬ ِ ‫أَفَ َعيِينَا بِ ْالخَ ْل‬
ٍ ‫ق ْاْلَ َّو ِل ۚ بَلْ هُ ْم فِي لَ ْب‬ Had We become exhausted by the first
stage of their creation? No, rather they
﴾١٥﴿ ‫َج ِدي ٍد‬ just turned confused in respect of a new
stage of creation (15). As We have
‫اْلن َسانَ َونَ ْعلَ ُم َما تُ َوس ِْوسُ بِ ِه نَ ْف ُسهُ ۚ َونَحْ ُن‬
ِ ْ ‫َولَقَ ْد خَ لَ ْقنَا‬ created the man, We know well what
their inner self (nafsu-hu – ُ‫)نف ُسہ‬
﴾١٦﴿ ‫أَ ْق َربُ إِلَ ْي ِه ِم ْن َحب ِْل ْال َو ِري ِد‬ intrigues them with, because We are
nearer to him than his jugular vein (16).
ِ ‫ان ع َِن ْاليَ ِم‬
ِ ‫ين َوع َِن ال ِّش َم‬
‫ال‬ ِ َ‫إِ ْذ يَتَلَقَّى ْال ُمتَلَقِّي‬ When he faces/meets (yatalaqqa – ٰ‫)يتلقی‬
the two demands (al-mutalaqqiyaan –

﴾١٧﴿ ‫ )ال ُمتلقِّيان قَ ِعي ٌد‬one arising from righteousness
(‘anil-yameen – ‫ )عن اليمين‬and one
arising out of vice (‘anish-shimaal – ‫عن‬
‫ )الشمال‬existing (qa’eed – ‫ )قعيد‬in his self
َّ ُ ْ
﴾١٨﴿ ‫( َّما يَلفِظ ِمن قَوْ ٍل إَِّل لَ َد ْي ِه َرقِيبٌ َعتِي ٌد‬17), he does not utter a single word
which the watcher/monitor (raqeeb –
‫ )رقيب‬inside him (ladyi-hi – ‫ )لديہ‬does not
ُْ‫ق ۚ ٰ َذلِكَ َما ُكنتَ ِمنه‬ ْ
ِّ ‫ت بِال َح‬ ْ ْ ْ
ِ ْ‫ َو َجا َءت َسك َرةُ ال َمو‬record for the future (‘ateed – ‫( )عتيد‬18)
and then comes the stillness (sakrat-
﴾١٩﴿ ‫ )سکرةُ ت َِحي ُد‬of death with its reality, that
which you have always tried to avoid
ْ
﴾٢٠﴿ ‫ور ۚ َذلِكَ يَوْ ُم ال َو ِعي ِد‬ ٰ
ِ ُّ‫ َونُفِخَ فِي الص‬taheed – ‫( )تحيد‬19); and when the final
proclamation is made (nufikha fis-soor –
‫ ;)نُفِخ فی الصور‬that will be the arrival of
the promised time (20). And every being
ٌ َ ٌ
﴾٢١﴿ ‫س َّم َعهَا َسائِق َوش ِهيد‬ ْ َ ُ ْ
ٍ ‫ َو َجا َءت كلُّ نف‬or self would have come up in company
of its inner urges or driving instincts
(saa’iqun – ‫)سائِق‬ and a
witness/conscious mind (shaheedun –
َ ْ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ
َ‫( )شہيد لقد كنتَ فِي َغفل ٍة ِّمن هَ ٰـذا فكشفنَا عَنكَ ِغطا َءك‬21). He will be told: “Indeed you ُ ْ َ َّ
have been unmindful of this happening;
ٌ
﴾٢٢﴿ ‫صرُكَ اليَوْ َم َح ِديد‬ ْ َ
َ َ‫ فب‬therefore, we have now lifted off the
veil from you so your vision today is
sharp in understanding (hadeedun – ‫)حديد‬
﴾٢٣﴿ ‫ي َعتِي ٌد‬ َ َ
َّ ‫ال ق ِرينهُ هَ ٰـذا َما ل َد‬ ُ َ َ
َ ‫( َوق‬22)”. And his inner self/conscience
(qareena-hu – ‫ )قرينہ‬would say: “This
was my forthcoming future (‘ateed –
﴾٢٤﴿ ‫ار َعنِي ٍد‬ َّ ُ َّ ْ
ٍ ‫( ”)عتيد ألقِيَا فِي َجهَن َم ك َّل َكف‬23). The command will be issued َ
to cast into hellfire every stubborn
disbeliever (24), forbidder of goodness
﴾٢٥﴿ ‫ب‬ ٍ ‫اع لِّ ْلخَ ي ِْر ُم ْعتَ ٍد ُّم ِري‬ ٍ َّ ‫ن‬ ‫م‬
َّ and fomenter of distrust (25) who had
set up other authorities beside God so as
ِ ‫ الَّ ِذي َج َع َل َم َع اللَّـ ِه إِلَ ٰـهًّا آخَ َر فَأ َ ْلقِيَاهُ فِي ْال َع َذا‬to cast him into severe suffering (26).
‫ب‬
Upon this his inner self/conscience
﴾٢٦﴿ ‫( ال َّش ِدي ِد‬qarina-hu - ُ‫ )قرينہ‬would plead: “O our
Sustainer, it was not me who made him
َ ‫ط َغ ْيتُهُ َولَ ٰـ ِكن َكانَ فِي‬
‫ض ََل ٍل‬ ْ َ‫ال قَ ِرينُهُ َربَّنَا َما أ‬ َ َ‫ ق‬transgress, but it was he who has been in
manifest error” (27). He will be told:
﴾٢٧﴿ ‫“ بَ ِعي ٍد‬Do not contend with Me because I had
warned you in advance of the

﴾٢٨﴿ ‫ت إِلَ ْي ُكم بِ ْال َو ِعي ِد‬
ُ ‫ي َوقَ ْد قَ َّد ْم‬ ِ ‫ال ََّل ت َْخت‬
َّ ‫َص ُموا لَ َد‬ َ َ‫ق‬ Reckoning (28); My decrees do not
change, while I am not cruel/unjust to
ْ ِّ َّ َ
﴾٢٩﴿ ‫ي َو َما أنَا بِظَل ٍم لل َعبِي ِد‬ َ َ ْ
َّ ‫ َما يُبَ َّد ُل القَوْ ُل ل َد‬my subjects (29). On that stage We
would ask hell, “Have you been filled”;
ُ
‫ت َوتَقو ُل هَلْ ِمن‬ ْ َّ ُ
ِ ‫ يَوْ َم نَقو ُل لِ َجهَن َم ه َِل ا ْمت َََل‬and it will answer: “Is there more to
﴾٣٠﴿ ‫ َّم ِزي ٍد‬come”?” (30) And then the life of peace
and protection (al-Jannatu – ُ‫ )الجنۃ‬for the
﴾٣١﴿ ‫ت ال َجنَّة لِل ُمتَّقِينَ َغي َْر بَ ِعي ٍد‬ ْ ُ ْ ْ ُ
ِ َ‫ َوأزلِف‬circumspect ones would draw nearer
(uzlifat – ‫( )اُزلفت‬31); they will be told
﴾٣٢﴿ ‫ب َحفِي ٍظ‬ ٍ ‫“ هَ ٰـ َذا َما تُو َع ُدونَ لِ ُكلِّ أَ َّوا‬This is what was promised to everyone
turning to God and constantly
ْ
ٍ ‫ب َو َجا َء بِقَل‬
‫ب‬ ْ
ِ ‫ َّم ْن خَ ِش َي الرَّحْ َمـٰنَ بِال َغ ْي‬remembering Him (32), who was fearful
of the Most Gracious with an Unseen
﴾٣٣﴿ ‫ب‬ ٍ ‫ ُّمنِي‬status (bil-ghayib – ‫)بالغيب‬, and who has
come up with a heart always turning to
Him (33)”; They will be told “Enter this
ُ ُ ْ َ ٰ َ ُ ُ ْ
﴾٣٤﴿ ‫ ادخلوهَا بِ َسَل ٍم ۚ ذلِكَ يَوْ ُم الخلو ِد‬life in peace; this is the stage of eternity
(34)”. For them will be all that they
ٌ َ َ َ
﴾٣٥﴿ ‫ لهُم َّما يَشاءُونَ فِيهَا َول َد ْينَا َم ِزيد‬would desire therein and We have much
more for them (35).

‫ط ًّشا فَنَقَّبُوا‬ ْ َ‫ َو َك ْم أَ ْهلَ ْكنَا قَ ْبلَهُم ِّمن قَرْ ٍن هُ ْم أَ َش ُّد ِم ْنهُم ب‬And how many have we destroyed
before them from earlier generations
﴾٣٦﴿ ‫يص‬ َ ْ
ٍ ‫ فِي البَِل ِد هَلْ ِمن َّم ِح‬who were greater in might than theirs,
and as a result, they wandered in the
َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ ٰ
‫ إِ َّن فِي ذلِكَ ل ِذك َر ٰى لِ َمن َكانَ لهُ قلبٌ أوْ ألقى ال َّس ْم َع‬lands for a place of escape/refuge (36).
In it, there is indeed a lesson for those
﴾٣٧﴿ ‫ َوهُ َو َش ِهي ٌد‬who are conscious or who listen
carefully and have an observing mind
(37).

َ ْ‫ت َو ْاْلَر‬
‫ض َو َما بَ ْينَهُ َما فِي ِستَّ ِة‬ َ ‫َولَقَ ْد خَ لَ ْقنَا ال َّس َم‬
ِ ‫اوا‬ And We have created the celestial
bodies and the Planet Earth and all
﴾٣٨﴿ ‫ب‬ ُّ َ
ٍ ‫ أي ٍَّام َو َما َم َّسنَا ِمن ل ُغو‬that’s between them in six stages (sittati
ayyaam – ‫)ست ِۃ ايام‬
ِ and no weariness ever
ُ ُ ُ ُ
ِ ‫ فَاصْ بِرْ َعلَ ٰى َما يَقولونَ َو َسبِّحْ بِ َح ْم ِد َربِّكَ قَب َْل طل‬touched us (38). So you too be steadfast
‫وع‬
against what they keep saying, and work
﴾٣٩﴿ ‫ب‬ ْ ِ ‫ ال َّش ْم‬hard to glorify your Sustainer before the
ِ ‫س َوقَب َْل ال ُغرُو‬
rise of the Sun of glory (tulu-ish-Shams
– ‫وع الشمس‬ِ ُ‫)طُل‬, and before you perceive

or fear its downfall (al-ghuroob –
َ َ‫َو ِمنَ اللَّي ِْل فَ َسبِّحْ هُ َوأَ ْدب‬
﴾٤٠﴿ ‫ار ال ُّسجُو ِد‬ ‫( )ال ُغروب‬39); and as long as the darkness
of evil persists (min al-layil – ‫ )من الليل‬,
keep striving hard towards that target
(sabbih-hu – ُ‫ )فسبحہ‬and keep following
the aim of a total submission to His
commandments (adbaar-as-Sujood –
﴾٤١﴿ ‫ب‬ ٍ ‫َوا ْستَ ِم ْع يَوْ َم يُنَا ِد ْال ُمنَا ِد ِمن َّم َك‬
ٍ ‫ان قَ ِري‬ ‫( )ادبار السجُود‬40). And take care to
monitor/observe the time when the
‫ق ۚ ٰ َذلِكَ يَوْ ُم‬
ِّ ‫صي َْحةَ بِ ْال َح‬
َّ ‫يَوْ َم يَ ْس َمعُونَ ال‬ proclaimer issues the proclamation from
a place near-by (41). The stage when
ْ
ِ ‫ال ُخر‬
﴾٤٢﴿ ‫ُوج‬ they would all listen to the loud noise
(as-sayihah – ‫ )الصيحۃ‬of truth, that would
be the stage of final coming out from
the state of death (al-khurooj – ‫)ال ُخروج‬
ِ ‫يت َوإِلَ ْينَا ْال َم‬
﴾٤٣﴿ ‫صي ُر‬ ُ ‫إِنَّا نَحْ ُن نُحْ يِي َونُ ِم‬ (42). Indeed, it is us Who grant life and
it is us Who give death and it is Us to
whom is the journey’s end (43). That’s
‫ق ْاْلَرْ ضُ َع ْنهُ ْم ِس َراعًّا ۚ ٰ َذلِكَ َح ْش ٌر َعلَ ْينَا‬
ُ َّ‫يَوْ َم تَ َشق‬ the stage when the Earth opens up ways
upon them in a haste which would make
﴾٤٤﴿ ‫يَ ِسي ٌر‬ the gathering before us easy (44). We
are fully aware of all that they keep
‫نَّحْ ُن أَ ْعلَ ُم بِ َما يَقُولُونَ ۚ َو َما أَنتَ َعلَ ْي ِهم‬ uttering, but you are not a tyrant over
them; so keep reminding all those who
﴾٤٥﴿ ‫اف َو ِعي ِد‬ ِ ْ‫َّار ۚ فَ َذ ِّكرْ بِ ْالقُر‬
ُ َ‫آن َمن يَخ‬ ٍ ‫بِ َجب‬ fear the coming time with guidance
from the Quran (45).

Qaaaf; wal Qur aanil Majeed (1) Bal


'ajibooo an jaa'ahum munzirum minhum
faqaalal kaafiroona haazaa shai'un 'ajeeb
(2) 'A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaaban
zaalika raj'um ba'eed (3) Qad 'alimnaa
maa tanqu-sul-ardu minhum wa 'indanaa
Kitaabun Hafeez (4) Bal kazzaboo bilhaqqi
lammaa jaaa'ahum fahum feee amrim
mareej (5) Afalam yanzurooo ilas samaaa'i
fawqahum kaifa banainaahaa wa
zaiyannaahaa wa maa lahaa min furooj (6)
Wal arda madadnaahaa wa alqainaa

feehaa rawaasiya wa ambatnaa feehaa
min kulli zawjim baheej (7) Tabsiratanw wa
zikraa likulli 'abdim muneeb (8) Wa
nazzalnaa minas samaaa'i maaa'am
mubaarakan fa ambatnaa bihee
jannaatinw wa habbal haseed (9)
Wannakhla baasiqaatil laha tal'un nadeed
(10) Rizqal lil'ibaad, wa ahyainaa bihee
baldatam maitaa; kazaalikal khurooj (11)
Kazzabat qablahum qawmu Noohinw wa
Ashaabur Rassi wa Samood (12) Wa
'Aadunw wa Fir'awnu wikhwaanu loot (13)
Wa Ashaabul Aykati wa qawmu Tubba';
kullun kazzabar Rusula fahaqqa wa'eed
(14) Afa'a yeenaa bilkhalqil awwal; bal
hum fee labsim min khalqin jaded (15) Wa
laqad khalaqnal insaana wa na'lamu maa
tuwaswisu bihee nafsuhoo wa Nahnu
aqrabu ilaihi min hablil wareed (16) 'Iz
yatalaqqal mutalaqqi yaani 'anil yameeni
wa 'anish shimaali qa'eed (17) Maa yalfizu
min qawlin illaa ladaihi raqeebun 'ateed
(18) Wa jaaa'at sakratul mawti bilhaqq;
zaalika maa kunta minhu taheed (19) Wa
nufikha fis Soor; zaalika yawmul wa'eed
(20) Wa jaaa'at kullu nafsim ma'ahaa
saaa'iqunw wa Shaheed (21) Laqad kunta
fee ghaf latim min haazaa fakashafnaa
'anka ghitaaa'aka fabasarukal yawma
hadeed (22) Wa qaala qareenuhoo
haazaa maa ladaiya 'ateed (23) Alqiyaa
fee Jahannama kulla kaffaarin 'aneed (24)
Mannaa'il lilkhayri mu'tadim mureeb (25)
Allazee ja'ala ma'al laahi ilaahan aakhara
fa alqiyaahu fil'azaabish shadeed (26)
Qaala qareenuhoo Rabbanaa maaa
atghaituhoo wa laakin kaana fee dalaalin
ba'eed (27) Qaala laa takhtasimoo
ladaayya wa qad qaddamtu ilaikum
bilwa'eed (28) Maa yubaddalul qawlu
ladaiya wa maaa ana bizal laamil lil'abeed
(29) Yawma naqoolu li'jahannama halim
talaati wa taqoolu hal mim mazeed (30)
Wa uzlifatil jannatu lil muttaqeena ghaira
ba'eed (31) Haaza maa too'adoona likulli
awwaabin hafeez (32) Man khashiyar

Rahmaana bilghaibi wa jaaa'a biqalbim
muneeb (33) Udkhuloohaa bisalaamin
zaalika yawmul khulood (34) Lahum maa
yashaaa'oona feehaa wa ladainaa
mazeed(35) Wa kam ahlaknaa qablahum
min qarnin hum ashaddu minhum batshan
fanaqqaboo fil bilaad, hal mim mahees
(36) Inna fee zaalika lazikraa liman kaana
lahoo qalbun aw alqas sam'a wa huwa
Shaheed (37) Wa laqad khalaqnas
samaawaati wal arda wa maa bainahumaa
fee sittati ayyaamin wa maa massanaa mil
lughoob (38) Fasbir 'alaa maa yaqooloona
wa sabbih bihamdi Rabbika qabla tuloo'ish
shamsi wa qablal ghuroob (39) Wa minal
laili fasabbih hu wa adbaaras sujood (40)
Wastami' yawma yunaa dil munaadi mim
makaanin qareeb (41) Yawma
yasmaoonas sai hata bilhaqq zaalika
yawmul khurooj (42) Innaa Nahnu nuhyee
wa numeetu wa ilainal maser (43) Yawma
tashaqqaqul ardu 'anhum siraa'aa; zaalika
hashrun 'alainaa yaseer (44) Nahnu
a'lamu bimaa yaqooloona wa maaa anta
'alaihim bijabbaarin fazakkir bil quraani
many yakhaafu wa'eed (45).
