Key concerns

- The key concerns would be not getting the appropriate data from the client which

would bring negative impact on the project delivery.

- Completing the presentation on time

- Find out who is primary client in the project

- Find out what are the resistance that needs to be dealt with

- Find out the way to let Robert speak about his underlying concerns and fear of

resisting to collaboration

Issues I have with Robert

Issues I have with Robert is not having direct communication, because, we have contacted

only through the boss or other colleagues. This could lead to miscommunication issues.

Another thing is that Robert has some resistance towards to the project which has covered

by some fears that cause clients to be resistant. So as a result, this indirect expression created

similar discomfort in the consultant, here in this case would be Michael Lester. So, both

parties might be on the different page and worrying about different problem.

How my behavior has contributed to the dilemma I find myself in today

Not being direct at my communication with my boss and the client. I should have made clear

boundaries and terms and conditions before I start to take the project responsibility. Another

thing is I was very frustrated about my own reputation instead of focusing on the solutions, I

was only focusing on the problems of not getting the data. I should have been more

transparent about situation with our team members and let them know that there are risk of
not getting data and making a presentation, and proactively find out if there is any other

solution to make things happen without data from Robert.

What you would say to Robert

In the discussion process, I would try to name the resistance in everyday language and more

non-aggressive way.

First of all, I am excited to work with you to make this project successfully complete

on time. But there are certain things we need to discuss before we move further with the

project.

- I feel like, you don’t see yourself as a part of the problem and you seem willing to do

anything, but I can’t tell what your real feelings are?

- You are asking a lot of questions and collecting a lot of data from our team, do you

have any doubts about the credibility of the results?

- You look as if you have other things on your mind, have low attention on this project?

After that, I will listen quietly what Robert respond to my concerns. Based on her response, I

would make the expectation clearer to her and ask her that if she is willing to collaborate

from her part, otherwise we are not possible to provide the expected presentation on time.

In addition, I will let her know possible the negative consequences from not having the

appropriate data.

At the end of the conversation, I would also express my willing to help with her and the

company.
