StarTrack
Introduction

1.3 Product description

StarTrack is a 2D array detector, with vented ion chambers, arranged in Product

arrays. description

1.3.1 Arrays

Two arrays are located along the main central axes and two along the main Arrays
diagonals. Additional arrays are located at ±5 and ±10 cm parallel to one of
the main axis, and are intended for measurements of the relative position
of the leaves of the multi leaf collimator, when located at 0, ±5, and
±10 cm.
Additional single chambers are dedicated to the measurement of beam
energy, and are located in the eight areas formed by the main axis and
diagonals.

1.3.2 Chambers and data transmission

The charge released in the active volume of the chambers is separated by Chambers
means of an electrical field between the bottom and top electrodes. The and data
transmission
collected current, which is proportional to the dose rate, is measured and
digitized, by an individual electrometer for each chamber.
The measured data is transmitted to a PC via a standard Ethernet interface,
available on most PCs.

A 2.5 m power cord is shipped with the device.

NOTE:
All equipment must be connected to mains power outlets with protective
earth. For the mains connection of the StarTrack, use a power cord with
a grounding pin.

5.2 Software

The software controlling the StarTrack device is called OmniPro-Advance. Software

This software provides functions for visualization, analysis, handling, and
storing of measurement data.
In the Setup mode the user can define test queues, by setting up test
configurations and tolerances that can be recalled and performed routinely.
In the Measurement & Analysis mode the user can execute the test queues,
and check if the measurements are within the tolerance range, via
passed/failed criteria. Tolerance ranges are defined according to the
protocol chosen by the user among a set of proposed standard, or user-
defined, protocols.
The data is stored in a data-base, and can be retrieved to perform statistical
evaluations on previously analyzed quantities, with the possibility to filter
the data according to several different parameters.
Please refer to the OmniPro-Advance User’s Guide for details.

StarTrack
Installation

5.4 StarTrack installation

The StarTrack can be connected directly to a PC, or to a local network Installation

(LAN), via an Ethernet cable. One 30 m straight Ethernet cable for LAN
connection and one cross-over Ethernet cable for direct PC connection,
are shipped with the device.
Several StarTrack devices can be connected at the same time to a network.

NOTE:
Administrator status is required to perform connections.

TCP/IP and
IP addresses
5.4.1 TCP/IP and IP addresses

5.4.1.1 TCP

The Transmission Control Protocol is a virtual circuit protocol that is used TCP
to create connections between hosts on a network. The protocol
guarantees reliable and in-order delivery of data from sender to receiver.

5.4.1.2 IP address

An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a unique address that network IP address

connected devices use to identify and communicate with each other.
The IP address (IPv4) consists of four numbers (0.255) separated by
period. For example, 192.168.23.34.

5.4.1.3 Subnet mask

Subnet mask is a mask used to determine what subnet an IP address Subnet mask
belongs to. An IP address has two components, the network address and
the host address.
Normally the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 (Class B) or 255.255.255.0
(Class C) for company networks.

As an example, consider the IP address 150.215.017.009:

The subnet mask is 255.255.0.0. The two first numbers in the IP address
(150.215) which corresponds to 255.255 in the subnet mask is the network
address. The last two numbers (017.009) which corresponds to 0.0 in the
subnet mask is the host address on the network.

Subnet mask 255.255.0.0

Network address 150.215.0.0

Host address 0.0.017.009

All the systems on the same subnet must use the same subnet mask in
order to communicate with each other directly. Otherwise a gateway has to
be used.

5.4.1.4 Ethernet

Ethernet refers to the family of local-area network (LAN) products covered Ethernet
by the IEEE 802.3 standard that defines what is commonly known as the
CSMA/CD protocol. Three data rates are currently defined for operation
over optical fiber and twisted-pair cables:
10 Mbps 10Base-T Ethernet
100 Mbps Fast Ethernet
1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet

under the treatment head. The lasers in conjunction with the
side cross markers can be used to position the StarTrack
roughly in the center of the beam.
If you intend to use the MLC QA lines of chambers, they should
be oriented orthogonal to the travel direction of the leaves.

At the accelerator, set the field size 20 x 20 cm, and turn on the
light field.

Move the StarTrack detector plane to 100 cm SSD (the distance

from the LINAC source to the markers on the side of the
StarTrack).

Use the adjustment capabilities of the treatment couch, or the

lifting table, to position the StarTrack so that the cross-hairs at
the sensor area and the light field cross-hairs are superimposed.

NOTE:
Due to the higher uncertainty when positioning the device in the light
field (diffuse penumbras and cross-hair width), for precise positioning it
is advisable to refer to the side markers which are engraved in the
housing.

values

 Select an SDD.

Put the special plate, corresponding to the beam type (electrons

or photons), on the device.

Set the field size ≥20x20 cm2.

Perform one measurement for each available beam energy,

preferably integrating at least 1 Gy per measurement. The
values measured in the dedicated chambers below the plate
inserts are normalized to the value measured by the chamber in
the center of the device.

ments
beam, energy, SDD, and field size.

6.7.3 Calculations

For each energy, the set of results of the routine measurements is Calculations
automatically compared to the set of reference values. A test report is
issued, according to the pass/fail criteria set by the user.

If the uniformity correction matrix needs recalibration, please return the Uniformity
StarTrack to the manufacturer. recalibration

7.5 Temperature correction

Correction for temperature deviation can be performed by the user. Check Temperature
the correction factor regularly. For details, see the OmniPro-Advance User’s and pressure
correction
Guide.

7.6 Dose output measurement

Dose output measurement must be performed regularly, and whenever the Dose output
accelerator MU calibration has been made. After calibration a control measure-
ment
measurement is recommended. For details, see the OmniPro-Advance User’s
Guide.
