1 Introduction to PON Products

1 Introduction to PON
Products
GPON is the gigabit-capable PON specified by ITU-T
Recommendation G.984.x, supporting the access rate of 1.25Gbit/s
for uplink and 2.5Gbit/s for downlink.
FiberHome provides GPON series products, which cover the
terminal equipment and client end equipment of various
specifications. The EPON products can meet the multiple
requirements of the operators, broadcast industry and enterprise
private networks. The current GPON equipment includes:
u OLT: AN5116-06B;
u Terminal equipment: includes a variety of FTTH- and FTTB-type
GPON terminal equipment.

5 Service Configuration

5 Service Configuration
5.1 Network Planning
As illustrated in Figure 5.1, in the FTTN or FTTB application, users
can connect the ONU to the OLT via GPON to provide the Internet
service, VoIP service and IPTV service.

Figure 5.1 GPON service network diagram

15
5 Service Configuration

5.2 Configuring the Voice Service

5.2.1 Configuration Rules

u Relevant parameters of the softswitch platform
When the Softswitch platform uses the H.248 Protocol to control the access
terminals, the MGC protocol for the VoIP service should be the H.248
Protocol, and the protocol port should be 2944.

When the softswitch platform uses the MGCP Protocol to control the access
terminals, the MGC protocol for the VoIP service should be the MGCP
Protocol, the softswitch platform protocol port should be 2727, and the ONU
protocol port should be 2427.

When the Softswitch platform uses the SIP Protocol to control the access
terminals, the MGC protocol for the VoIP service should be the SIP Protocol;
the protocol port of both the registrar and the agent server should be 5060.

u Configuration rules for voice service QinQ parameters

The AN5116-06B supports QinQ voice services, in other words, supports
VLAN Stacking , by adding an SVLAN for the IAD.

When you are configuring the VoIP service VLAN, make sure that the VLAN
ID is within the range of service VLAN ID of the uplink port if single layer
VLAN is used. Also make sure that the SVLAN ID is within the range of the
service VLAN ID of the uplink port if QinQ VLAN is used.

5.3 Configuring Data Services

5.3.1 Configuration Rules

u Service configuration rules in transparent mode
The Ethernet data uploaded from the subscriber side will be
added with a VLAN ID when passing the subscriber’s home
gateway and then sent to the ONU. The two succeeding
handling methods are as follows:
The ONU transparently transmits the CVLAN ID and adds the SVLAN ID to it,
and then sends the data service to the AN5116-06B. The AN5116-06B does
not process the data service but transparently transmits it to the upper layer
network side equipment.

The ONU transparently transmits the CVLAN ID and sends the data service
to the AN5116-06B. After adding the SVLAN ID to the data service, the
AN5116-06B transparently transmits the data service to the upper layer
network side equipment.

u Service configuration rules in TAG mode

The Ethernet data uploaded from the subscriber side will be added with the
CVLAN ID and SVLAN ID when passing the ONU and then sent to the
AN5116-06B. The data service will not be processed using the AN5116-06B,
but transparently transmitted to the upper layer network side equipment.

34
5 Service Configuration

The Ethernet data uploaded from the subscriber side will be added with the
VLAN ID when passing the ONU and then sent to the AN5116-06B. The
AN5116-06B will add the SVLAN to the data service and send it to the upper
layer network side equipment.

u Service configuration rules in translation mode

The Ethernet data uploaded from the subscriber side will be
added with a VLAN ID when passing the subscriber’s home
gateway and then sent to the ONU. The three succeeding
handling methods are as follows:
The ONU translates the original VLAN ID into the VLAN ID which complies
with the operator’s requirement and adds the SVLAN to it, and then sends
the data service to the AN5116-06B. The AN5116-06B does not process the
data service but transparently transmits it to the upper layer network side
equipment.

The ONU translates the original VLAN ID into the VLAN ID which complies
with the operator’s requirement and sends the data service to the AN5116-
06B. The AN5116-06B adds the SVLAN ID to the data service and sends it to
the upper layer network side equipment.

The ONU transparently transmits the CVLAN ID and sends the data service
to the AN5116-06B. The AN5116-06B translates the original VLAN ID into the
VLAN ID which complies with the operator’s requirement and adds the
SVLAN ID to the data service, and then sends it to the upper layer network
side equipment.

u Service configuration rules in QinQ mode

The system can process the CVLAN and SVLAN of the service based on the
source MAC address, destination MAC address, source IP address,
destination IP address, L4 source port number, L4 destination port number,
Ethernet type, inner VLAN, outer VLAN, service type, time to live, protocol
type, layer 1 CoS, layer 2 CoS and other conditions.

35
5 Service Configuration

When you are configuring the data service VLAN, make sure that the CVLAN
ID is within the range of service VLAN ID of the uplink port if single layer
VLAN is used. Also make sure that the SVLAN ID is within the range of the
service VLAN ID of the uplink port if QinQ VLAN is used.

u Configuration rules of bandwidth distribution

The sum of the fixed bandwidth and asssured bandwidth of the service in the
bandwidth distribution should not exceed the maximum bandwidth.

Check whether the subscriber’s computer can access Internet
normally through dial-up:
u Properly connect the subscriber’s home gateway, computer
and the ONU, making sure that the subscriber terminal can
communicate normally with the FE interfaces of the ONU.
u Use the PPPoE dial-up software on the subscriber’s computer
for dial-up.
u When the dial-up succeeds, the subscriber’s computer can
access the Internet.

5.4 Configuring Multicast Services

5.4.1 Configuration Rules

u Three multicast modes
4 Under the proxy mode, the core switch card and GPON
interface card are both in the proxy mode; the system
proactively manages the statuses of multicast group
members, effectively reducing the protocol load on the
uplink equipment.
4 Under the snooping mode, the core switch card and EPON
interface card are both in snooping mode; the system only
snoops and forwards the IGMP messages passively, which
causes a relatively low impact on the system load, but

42
5 Service Configuration

increases the protocol process load on the uplink

equipment.
4 Under the proxy-snooping mode, the core switch card is in
the proxy mode, and theGPON interface card is in the
snooping mode. This is a combination of the proxy mode
and the snooping mode.
u During bandwidth allocation: if the data service is not started up
on the ONU port, you should configure one IPTV service
bandwidth and one data bandwidth for the FTTH-type ONU 1,
as well as one IPTV service bandwidth and one Integrated
Service bandwidth for the FTTB-type ONU. If the data service is
started up on the ONU port, you should configure only one IPTV
service bandwidth for every ONU.
u For the FTTH-type ONU, after adding one multicast service to
the ONU port, you should add one unicast service which
provides channel for the multicast uplink / downlink protocol
messages; for ONU type 2 listed in Table 1.2, you should add
only one multicast service to the ONU port.
u The VLAN CoS need not be configured in the multicast services.
The downlink multicast stream carries a CoS that cannot be
modified on the OLT and the ONU. The CoS of the uplink /
downlink multicast protocol message is 0 by default.
u One multicast program can belong to only one multicast VLAN;
one multicast VLAN can include one multicast program or one
multicast program group (which refers to a set of multicast
programs that can be managed as a whole).
u If the set top box or the PC obtains the IP address via DHCP,
the user should configure a unicast service for the port when
configuring the multicast service.
