temperature.
The ordering will be done with specific size and rating indicating Flange size (NPS) as per ASME
Standards.
2. DESIGN STANDARD
This document outlines the general technical requirements for the supply and delivery of fasteners.
Specifically, Fasteners shall be manufactured under the general requirements of the following codes
and standards.

Gaskets not in accordance with the specification and this practice shall be subject to rejections.
For piping applications requiring fasteners and all flanges are WNRF consistent with requirements
of ASME B16.20, unless specification specifies otherwise.
Completed fasteners containing defects originating with the design, materials or workman ship or
which are not in accordance with requirements of the specifications and referenced documents,
shall be subject to rejection.
Acceptance of the fasteners by the purchaser shall not relieve the supplier of the responsibility to
provide the fasteners in accordance with the requirements of this specification and the purchase
order.
The Fasteners materials shall be as per the identified ASTM material specifications in this document
or equivalent or superior. Supplemental and modified requirements to the identified ASTM material
specifications are outlined under each item as necessary.
Fasteners Chemical and Mechanical requirements of supplied must be strictly in accordance with
the latest codes and standards, mentioned in this document.
All items must be supplied in accordance with proper thread pitch / schedule as per standards
thinner or heavier than specified tolerance shall not be accepted.
Bolts and nuts shall be alloy steel conforming to ASTMA A 193 Gr B7/A and have regular square
and hexagonal dimensions. All nuts, bolts and washers shall be galvanized, or cadmium plated.
4. FASTNERS MATERIALS
Stud Bolts / Bolts - shall be comply the requirement of ASTM A193 Gr.B7

Threading
Bolts threading are defined in ASME B1.1 Unified Inch Screw Threads, (UN and UNR Thread Form).
The most common thread is a symmetrical form with a V-profile. The included angle is 60°. This
form is widely used in the Unified thread (UN, UNC, UNF, UNRC, UNRF) form as the ISO / metric
threads.
The advantage of a symmetrical threads is that they are easier to produce and inspect compared
with non-symmetrical threads. These are typically used in general-purpose fasteners.
Thread series cover designations of diameter/pitch combinations that are measured by the number
of threads per inch (TPI) applied to a single diameter.
Coarse thread series (UNC/UNRC) is the most widely used thread system and applied in
most of the screws, bolts and nuts. Coarse threads are used for threads in low strength
materials such as iron, mild steel, copper and softer alloy, aluminum, etc.. The coarse thread
is also more tolerant in adverse conditions and facilitate quick assembly.
Fine thread series (UNF/UNRF) is commonly used in precision applications and in there
where require a higher tensile strength than the coarse thread series.
8 - Thread series (8UN) is the specified thread forming method for several ASTM standards
including A193 B7, A193 B8/B8M, and A320. This series is mostly used for diameters one
inch and above.

All nuts shall be of heavy hexagonal type and shall be in accordance with ASME B18.2.2, and even
as bolts the threading in ASME B1.1. Depending on a customer specification, nuts must be both
sites chamfered or with on one side a washer face.
If the nuts of grade 4 or 7M are specified in the material requisition, then the supplementary
requirements S3 specified in ASTM A194 shall apply. Impact test temperature and test values shall
be as per A 320 respective grade.
Sour Service
All Fasteners specified for sour service shall meet the requirements of NACE MR0175/ISO 15156
– latest edition.
Galvanization
Where specified bolting shall be galvanized in accordance with ISO 1461. Thread fits shall be class
2A for bolts and class 2B for nuts after galvanizing.
Galling
Vendor shall propose measures if any to be taken to prevent the risk of galling between high alloys
bolts and nuts.
Threading
For stud bolts, jackscrews and nuts, the threading shall conform to the following series of standard
ASME B1.1.
“Coarse” series: for bolt diameters less than or equal to 1”
“8 threads” series: for bolt diameters equal to or greater than 1⅛”
Stud bolts shall be threaded along their entire length. The machining and surface condition
tolerances applicable to the various threading shall conform to the following classes:
Class 2A of standard ASME B1.1 for stud bolts and screws
Class 2B of standard ASME B1.1 for nuts
