B. ANALYSIS
Using your answers in my questions, let us dig deeper on how it relates to our topic for
today.

Let us analyze the following sentences:

1. He took the suitcase to the police station.
2. The police officers were killed by the bomb.

What have you observed in the sentences? How does the subject, verb and the object
of the verb function in the sentence?

So, if we can classify these sentences if it’s in active or passive voice, the first sentence
falls under what voice?

How about the second sentence?

C. ABSTRACTION
The first sentence is in active voice sentence and the second one is a passive voice
sentence.
Now, let’s define what is an active voice and passive voice.

Definition of Terms
 Active Voice
 It tells what a person or thing does.
 The SUBJECT performs the action and typically comes before the verb.
 The OBJECT is who or what receives the action and typically comes after the
verb.
Example:
*Marcowill finishhis project by tomorrow.
Subj VerbObj

 Passive Voice
 It tells what is done to someone or something.
 The SUBJECT performs the action and typically comes after the verb.
 The OBJECT is who or what receives the action and typically comes before the
verb.
Example:
* The videowas posted on Facebook by Anthony.
Obj Verb Subj

Based from the examples given earlier, can you say that there’s a pattern or formula in
identifying each type of voices?

Can you make your pattern for an active voice sentence?
