CODE BLUE PROTOCOL

The SH&CC will provide basic life support measures in the event of a cardiac and/or respiratory arrest.
Basic life support in this setting will include:
1. Initiating CPR;
2. Administering oxygen;
3. Defibrillation if necessary.

In the event of a cardiac and/or respiratory arrest, a “code blue” with the location will be announced
over the P.A. system. All providers and nursing staff will respond to the code blue. The senior
provider/nurse on the scene will be the team leader. The procedure indicated below will be followed.

PERSONNEL PROCEDURE POINT OF EMPHASIS


First person on scene 1. Confirms cardiac and/or respiratory arrest.
2. Calls for HELP. 2. Call HELP loudly, even if no one is in sight.
3. Begins CPR.
