JOB SATISFACTION is the level of contentment a person feels regarding his or her job.
This feeling is mainly based on an individual’s perception of satisfaction. Job satisfaction
can be influenced by a person’s ability to complete required tasks, the level of
communication in an organization, and the way management treats employees. Affective job
satisfaction is a person’s emotional feeling about the job as a whole. Cognitive job
satisfaction is how satisfied employees feel concerning some aspect of their job, such as pay,
hours, or benefits
whole organization face challenges in accurately measuring job satisfaction, as the definition
of satisfaction can differ among various people within an organization. However most
organizations realize that worker’s level of job satisfaction can impact their job performance,
and thus determining metrics is crucial to create strong efficiency.
Despite widespread belief to the contrary, studies have shown that high-performing
employees do not feel satisfied with their job simply as a result of to high-level titles or
increased pay . This lack of correlation is a significant concern for organization, since studies
also reveal that the implementation of positive human resource practices results in financial
gain for the organizations. The cost of employees is quite high and creating satisfaction
relevant to the return on this investment is par amount. Simply put positive work
measurement and increased shareholder value are directly related.

2.STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Job satisfaction is an important aspect of any company when there is a problem with job
satisfaction, there can be decreased work flow, or workers who just do not care . a
management lead focus group or a survey is one way to find out how satisfied or unsatisfied
the employee is .
You can then work to rectify the situations that are causing
a)primary objectives

Research methodology is the systematic way to solve problems. It is the description and
justification of various methods of conducting research. It’s indeed of the following details.
The basic design of the study
The nature of the sample
The data collection techniques
Statistical tool for analysis
Tools which used for analysis are as follows pie diagram, scattered diagram, bar diagram,
line diagram.
The research group had only limited period for studying the topic could not be fully
covered. Hence, a complete picture could not be obtained.
Confidentially matter restricts for an in depth study.
Personal bias of the respondent and their busy schedule also was a limiting factor in the
collection of the data.
The perception bias or attitude of the respondents may also act as hurdle to the study.
Quality of information highly depends on the knowledge of the respondents.

Steel is more important of any modern economy and it is a backbone of human civilization.
The per capita consumption of steel is treated as an important index of the level of socio
economic development and living standards of people in any country. It is smoothly flow of
material and income generation.
The economic growth of every country is depended on the industries of that country.
India is a developing country and focus on the development of the industries to attain
economic growth. Basically India is an agricultural country. Most of the people depends up
on agricultural products. So the government focus on industrial sector to attain economic
growth. Speaking of industries steel industries comes first, India is one of the largest
producers of steels in the world and about 18% of deposit iron one is found in India. India
ranked as the fourth largest producer of crude in the world during Jan- Nov 2010, after
China, Japan and USA as per the world association.
Steel industries mainly derive its demands from other sector like infrastructure,
aviation engineering , construction, automobiles, pipes and tubes etc. thus its intense
integration with other important segments makes it a strategic focus are for the government as
well.
India rating and research anticipates that growth in Indian steel sector will gain
momentum in 2014 on the back of growth in other economic segments. The world steel

association( WSA) project was shows the local steel demand in India would increase by
5.9% and 7% in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

COMPANY PROFILE
Steel industry is one of the basic industries in India. As one of the largest producer of the
crude steel and sponge iron it is important to focus on the development of domestic steel
production and steel production concerns. Considering the importance and also to develop
and promote the steel industrials Ltd ( SILK) in 1975. This is the government company and
one of the largest undertakings of the state. The company undertake the manufacturing
activities such as casting, forging, steel fabricated structure etc.
The company has five manufacturing units and foundry units and the foundry unit situated
in the OTTAPALAM is one of the manufacturing units of the company. The head office of
the company is situated in the ATHANI and liaison office at THIRUVANANATHAPURAM
and agency division at KOCHI. The company also has two marketing division, one power
engineering division, two fully owned subsidiary companies and two associated company in
its control.
The foundry unit of the OTTAPALAM was established as co-operative society under the
banner of ENCOS in 1968, in 1980 KERALA SIDCO taken over the company for revival
and improvements and to bring the steel based industries in KERALA under single
management. The company’s main customer is KERALA water authority, 95% of the
company’s products are consumed by the water

authority. So the company mainly manufactures products that are required for the water
authority that is pipes and other fittings. Other customers are industrials training department,
medical industries SHORNUR , excel classes and KERALA SIDCO

The department is responsible for receiving the work order for the production of new product
; calculation of the new product , inviting quotation and select favorable quotations , the
product design is made by the party. Since customer satisfaction is the main aim of every
company this departments got munch importance in making products that satisfies the need
of every customer.

The company’s total work force in 55 in that 47 workers in different sections and 8 are
executives. The company has also 44 contract based workers in order to fulfill its workforce
to increase its production.
During the peak time the company run on shifts there are two types of shift in the
company. The company provide double amount of actual wages to the employees who are
willing to work overtime one shift covers nearly 8 hours a day.
The workers have 13 paid holiday leaves under the negotiable instrument act and they are
also allowed with casual leave, earned, half pay leave and ESI leave. Each workers leave is
properly recorded in a leave car.

1. MATERIAL DEPARTMENT:-
The main function of this department is receiving, allocation, inspection and
storage of material in the right place. This department tries to purchase quality
materials at lower price so that the cost of production will decrease and the company
can produce better product at cheap price. This department assesses the need of the
company’s material requirement and sends the purchase requisition and then it
prepares purchase order and receives the materials after proper inspection and testing
the details are recorded in the material receiving note and send to the authorities for
payment.
The department is also responsible for keeping the goods in the right bins and keeping the
records of issues so that the material used can be easily identified. The materials purchased
by the company are C I scrap/pig iron, coke, limestone ferrosilicon, detonate powder,
graphite powder, fire clay , sodium silicate, silica sand etc. the company purchase materials
mainly from Coimbatore, Ahmadabad and Bangalore.
The department is a service department in the organization. The main function of this
department is to give necessary instruction to the production department in creating new
patterns. This department develops new pattern according to the need of the new product
design and calculates its cost.
The department gets information about the new pattern from the marketing department.
Then it analysis the pattern and give the report to marketing officer about the cost. This
department is also responsible for checking the quality of the product.

From the overall study I reach at the following conclusions:-
More than 80% of the employees in the company have more than 20 years of work
experience.
About 70% of the employees are satisfied with the hours they each work.
About 70% of employees are satisfied with the flexibility in work scheduling.
Only 50% of employees are satisfied with their location of work.
More than 50% of the employees are only moderately satisfied with the salary paid
to them.
Most of the employees are satisfied with promotional opportunities provided to
them.
More than 60% of employees are satisfied with the benefits given to them.
About 70% of the employees are satisfied with the job security.
More than 40% of employees are only moderately satisfied with the recognition for
work accomplished.
Most of the employees are satisfied with their relationship with co-workers, their
supervisors and with their subordinates.
Most of the employees are dissatisfied with the lack of opportunity to utilize their
skills and talents.
Employees are also dissatisfied in learning new skills.
More than 50% of employees are dissatisfied with the their lack of support for
additional training and education.
Employees are satisfied with their job responsibility.
They are also satisfied with the degree of independence associated with your work
roles.
6.2 SUGGESTIONS

When company take any decision about their company policies and rules for
employees planning, organizing and retaining in the organization they should
consider about the majority opinion and takes a better decision
Company should also consider for providing better training and development
activities for the employees.
Employees are expecting more recognition for the work they accomplished.
Employees are also expecting for reasonable salary, and opportunities for
promotions and other benefits.
Company should also consideration improving the work location.
And also try to avoid the dependence of old principles and try to make the new
principles that gives better result and overcome all the limitations.
6.3CONCLUSION

The organizations lack the opportunities for promotion and other training and development
programs. The organization also lack on certain factors such as working conditions, canteen ,
rest room facilities, rewards, recognition and promotion policy. Employee’s welfare
measures and job security should be given utmost importance, so that the employees turn
over may be restricted. The organizations need to modify the reward system of the employees
and promotions must be given based on merit, educational qualifications and experience, and
if these factors are given little more care, the company can maintain good workers with high
level of satisfaction, organizational commitment and involvement. This will in turn lead to
effectiveness and efficiency in their work which leads to increased productivity.
