let’ have a short review. What was our

Our previous lesson was all about the two

The two voices of the verb are passive and

active voice.

Correct!
Now, how can we identify if the sentence
uses active or passive voice?

B. Lesson Proper

1. Motivation

Let’s have an activity before we formally

start our discussion.
You will think of a problem you have (real
or imaginary) that you would like advice
on. You should write it on a slip of paper
that I will provide however don’t write your
name on it. I will give you 2 minutes to
think and then I will collect it.
(The students will do what was instructed
to them.)

Okay, class if you’re done. I will group you

into four. Each group will pick four slip of
paper from what you have passed while
ago. Select only two and give advice to the
writer about their problem (include the
words like ought to, shouldn’t, must, or
must have).
I will give you 3 minutes to work with your
group and afterwards you will read out the
problem and the advice.

(The students will do the task and present

their work.)

Job well done class! You’re quite a good

adviser.

2. Presentation

Upon doing the activity, what do you think

is our lesson for today? Did you notice the
verbs you used to give an advice to your
classmates?

Yes ma’am, and so I think our lesson for

today is about modals.

Exactly right!
Now, who will volunteer to read the
objectives?
(The students will volunteer to read.)

Objectives:
At the end of 60-minute period, the
students should be able to:

in the sentence; and

appropriate modals.

Later, we will dig more about the different

modals and its uses.

modals?
Modals are special kinds of auxiliary or
helping verbs. It is a verb that cannot work
without another verb.

Modal verbs are a special kind of auxiliary
verbs. Like other auxiliary verbs, they are
always used with a main verb but modal
verbs express an attitude to what we say.
They can express how certain or uncertain
we are about an event, or how willing or
unwilling we are to do something. We will
give attention to the four paired forms can
and could, will and would, may and mighty,
shall and should and one of the singular
forms- must.
Okay class, I have here different
sentences. Who would want to read the
sentences?

(A student will volunteer.)

2. Could I use your phone please?

ability in the past. In the second sentence,
it is use as a polite permission or request.
The third sentence conveys suggestion.
The fourth sentence tells about possibility

2. It may rain today.

way).

writing because it is formal while might is
