Mayor, Franz Kevin L.

1st Weekly Report

During the first week of On the Job Training, I went to the Department of Justice to
appeal a decision made by the City Prosecutor. The law office in which I was working was the
counsel for the private complainant in a Homicide case. However, the Prosecutor found that
there was no probable cause to charge the accused with the crime. From this decision, I went to
the DOJ to appeal, review and see whether the Prosecutor committed an error in not finding a
probable cause. I left Lipa at around 6:30a.m. and I got there at around 10 in the morning. I
thought that I was going to take a lot of time but quite the opposite, I was already in Lipa by 3 in
the afternoon.

The experience was tiring. Nevertheless, there was so much to learn because reading and
studying law is far different from actually going to courts and doing the work. There are still a
lot of things I can learn and this is just the beginning.
2nd Weekly Report

During the second week of my On the Job Training, I went to Balayan, Batangas to meet
with a client. There were several documents which were needed by the law office in order to
review the case that the latter was handling. The case was about a petition for quieting of title in
which the client was the complainant.

When I got back to the office, I was made to execute a Deed of Sale of a parcel of land.
Through this, I was able to recall and familiarize myself with the lessons we learned from Legal
Forms and Sales. Somehow, I tried to be more careful in making it because it involved real
persons with actual properties. I didn’t want to make mistakes in the details so I became very
cautious about it.
3rd Weekly Report

During the third week of my On the Job Training, I went to the office of the Integrated
Bar of the Philippines. I was made to inquire about the fees and membership does that should be
paid by the lawyers in the law office. It was my first time to go there. It was actually helpful
because I became aware of the amounts to be paid for, the manner by which it can be paid, the
time in which it was due, and the procedures to be followed in paying the same. There were also
other lawyers who were there to do the same itinerary.

Aside from this, this week was filled with mostly doing office work, as I was able to
make a lot of Affidavits of Loss for several licenses. I also made several Affidavits of Mutilation
for damaged passports and other important documents. Two of those affidavits were made
because the clients’ dog bit off some pages from the passport. In addition to this, I also made
some Contracts to Sell.
4th Weekly Report

During the fourth week of my On the Job Training, I spent a lot of time arranging the
documents in the office. I was involved in familiarizing myself with Notarial Practice. From such
work, I was able to know that for every legal document the office makes, there should be at least
four copies. Two goes to the client, one goes to the court records, and the other as part of the
records of the law office. I was used to having some of my documents notarized but little did I
know that the law office actually keeps a copy as part of their records. I also spent some time
arranging those records, in accordance with the chronological sequence, from Doc No. 1, 2, 3,
onwards.

A client also consulted the law office and inquired about a Special Proceeding for Change
of Name. Her children were born before she and her husband got married, and were actually
recognized by the latter as his sons but until today, those children do not bear the last name of
their father. Hence, the client wanted to pursue instituting the petition.
