LESSON PLAN

SIXTH YEAR
CLASS 1
Date: 10/02/2020
Topic: Greetings and Classroom Language
Materials: Computer, Projector, Greetings and Classroom Language (ActivInspire file), Greetings cards,
Candy, Fly Swatters
 Introduce myself, then ask a student his/her name. He/She asks another student his/her name and so
on.
 Introduce “Hello/Hi” and “Goodbye/Bye”. Students practice by saying it to a classmate that is next to
them.
 Introduce “Good morning/afternoon/evening/night”. Explain that “Good morning/afternoon/evening”
are ways to say “Hello”, and that “Good night” is a way of saying “Goodbye”.
 Show cards (“Good morning/afternoon/evening/night”) randomly. Students greet a classmate that is
next to them according to the card.
 Introduce “Thank you/Thanks” and “You’re welcome/Anytime”.
 Give a candy to a student, elicit “Thank you/Thanks” and answer “You’re welcome/Anytime”. This
student gives a candy to another student and they follow the same procedure. Go on until all students
have gotten a candy.
 Introduce “How are you?” and responses. Student practice it by asking and responding to 3 classmates
that are next to them.
 Students play the “Fly Swatter Game” with the Greetings cards in small groups (4, 5 or 6 students,
depending on the size of the class). The winners get candies.
 Introduce “What’s the meaning of...?”. Ask students the meaning of some words in English that are
familiar to them. Practice as a group first, then students practice individually.
4 words – Ask students as a group
4 words – Students ask as a group
2 words – Model the next part with a student
6 words – Students ask each other in pairs, taking turns
 Introduce “How do you say...in English?”. To practice, follow the same procedure from the previous
topic.
 Introduce the other expressions. Students practice by repeating them and then putting them in order.
Invite different students to come to the computer and make the sentences. The students who make it
correctly get candies.
 Students can practice “Can you lend me your...?” by asking their classmates to lend them school
objects. It’s also an opportunity to practice “thank you/thanks” and “you’re welcome/anytime”, and
make real use of “How do you say...in English?” and “What’s the meaning of...?”.
