Seven Sacraments and Sacramentals

SACRAMENT
A visible sign of an inward grace, especially one of the solemn Christian rites considered
to be instituted by Jesus Himself, to symbolize or confer grace. Christ the Word Incarnate is seen
as the primordial sacrament of our encounter of God because He took on a material form and
became fully human yet He remained God. As the church grew in its understanding of Jesus’ life
and teachings, it identified seven ways by which God’s grace is active in a Christian’s life.

Through these sacraments, we recall the life message of Jesus, and celebrate it anew
among us. We celebrate the sacraments in the community to make us belong to the body of
Christ.

SACRAMENTALS
Sacramentals are associated with or imitate the Church’s official rituals. They are sacred
signs which remind which remind devotees of the sacraments. Some can be physical objects like
rosary beads or non-physical objects like music.
