6 GRADE OF CONCRETE
Grade of concrete shall be as per drawing
8 CONCRETE PRODUCTION.
For all PCC works, the concrete will be mixed in batching plant or at site using RM-800
Mixture machine with approval of EIL
Before laying PCC, sub base at founding level shall be compacted as Per specification.
Compaction of lean concrete will be done manually using rammers.
Formwork for PCC will be done using battens / wooden planks / Steel channels.
For all the RCC structures, bar bending schedule will be prepared as per drawings.
Batching of cement, coarse aggregates, sand and water will be done in batching
plant. The Engineer in charge will be informed about the concreting program well in
advance and the arrangement and availability of materials and necessary equipment
will be checked before calling for inspection. All information regarding a particular
concrete pour will be incorporated in Concrete program and inspection plan and the
concreting will commence only after due review of relevant QA document.
The ingredients will be mixed in a mechanical mixer. Weigh batcher of batching plant
will measure the coarse and fine aggregates. The mixing time will not be less than 2
minutes for a mixer of 2 cum. capacity and 3 minutes for a mixer of capacity more
than 2 cum. The concrete will be transported and placed on a clean bed or directly in
the Formwork. Concrete will not be dropped from a height of more than 1.5 meter
and will be laid in position in horizontal layers. The concrete, after being laid will be
compacted using vibrators. The whole process will be completed before initial setting
takes place.
Whenever a construction joint as per drawing to be provided in a monolithic structure,
bonding grooves will be formed in the concrete already laid and the surface will be
roughened, cleaned and given a wash of neat cement slurry before laying new
concrete as laid down in clause 12.4.1 of IS: 456.
The construction joint shall be vertical in case of beams & slabs & shall be thoroughly
cleaned & hacked before resuming the concrete works. In case of construction joint, the joint
shall be covered with cement mortar of the ratio same as that of concrete mix, on the
same plane
All inserts, anchors, sleeves and all other embedded items shall be at site prior
to the start of concrete.
10.2 PLACING
The method of placing of concrete shall depend on the quantity of concrete, type
of structure, type of formwork etc.
The concrete pour shall be checked for the position, level, proper
reinforcements, embedded parts, and adequacy of shuttering, Scaffolding etc &
Concreting shall be commenced on approval from engineer in charge.
Concrete shall be laid in layers no greater than 400 mm, and each layer shall be
compacted using appropriate vibrators. Concrete shall not be moved horizontally
by vibration, and care taken to avoid segregation while pouring. Concrete shall
be placed while it is sufficiently plastic for full compaction. It shall be worked
around reinforcements and embedded items
Placement of concrete shall continue until the completion of the concrete in one
pour to avoid cold joints in concrete unless construction joints are specified
The maximum permissible free fall of concrete may be taken as 1.5 mts, In case
shuttering height more than 1.5 Mts shall be poured using boom placer.
Mass concrete shall be planned and discussed with EIC well in advance,
separately with pour sequence, rate of pour, pumping arrangement and
vibrators as required
Concrete shall be placed without segregation ,
The concrete shall be placed in its final position and compacted before initial
setting time of concrete commences after first mixing of water, cement and
aggregates
Water for use in mixing concrete and curing shall comply with the requirements
of IS 456
Wherever construction, contraction and expansion joints occur in the water
retaining concrete structures as per drawings these joints shall be made
watertight.
For Provision of Construction Joint at place other than mentioned in drawing
prior approval shall be taken from Engineer in charge.
No wet concrete shall be placed in flowing water
Concreting shall be carried out continuously up to construction joints
Vertical construction joints shall be formed by the insertion of rigid stopping off
forms.
Any remedial treatment to concrete surfaces shall be agreed with the company
Representative and shall be carried out without delay and before the application
of any curing membrane.
Any concrete surface which is found improper shall be inspected by the
company Rep before treatment.
10.3 COMPACTION
Concrete should be thoroughly compacted and fully worked around the reinforcement,
around embedded fixtures and into corners of the formwork.
Whenever vibration has to be applied externally, the design of formwork and the
disposition of vibrators should receive special consideration to ensure efficient
compaction and to avoid surface blemishes.
10.4 CURING
Curing is the process of preventing the loss of moisture from the concrete whilst
maintaining a satisfactory temperature regime. The curing regime shall also
prevent the development of high temperature gradients within the concrete.
Curing compound of approved brand shall be applied in RCC Exposed surface
structure by spraying and brushing where ever water curing is not possible..
Curing compound shall confirm to the relevant IS code.
Exposed surface of concrete shall be maintained continuously damp or wet
condition at least for7 days.
12 SEPERATION JOINT.
Expansion joints shall be provided at the locations and to the details shown on
Drawings, with the joints filled with approved joint filling material.
14 WATER STOPS.
PVC water stops as per ElL Specification No. 6-68-0002 for materials shall be
accurately cut, fitted and integrally joined as per manufacturer's specifications
to provide a Continuous, watertight diaphragm at all points
Water stops shall be provided at locations as shown in drawing.
Adequate provision shall be made for the support and protection of water stops
during the
Progress of the work. Damaged water stops shall be replaced and/or repaired
as directed
