The module consists of 30 hours of formal lecture, 9 hours of tutorial lessons, and 6
hours of laboratory work.
Part-time Mode
The module consists of 20 hours of formal lecture, 4 hours of tutorial lessons, 6 hours
of laboratory work and 15 hours of guided study sessions.

Content

3 Determine stresses in subsoil induced z stress distribution under different shapes of loaded areas
by surface and subsurface loadings. z increase of vertical and horizontal stresses under foundations
z graphical solutions

4 Design shallow foundation and assess z definition, types and behaviour of shallow foundations

z application of computer software in analysing shallow foundation
6 Carry out the structural design of z structural design of shallow footing: single spread footing, raft footing, strap beam
foundation. z pile shaft, pile cap and capping beam design
