6th Grade Clarinets Interested in Switching To...

SAXOPHONE
Dear Students & Parents,

The Medina Band Program auditions for saxophone will be held after school on
Tuesday, December 17th 2019 in the Root Middle School band room. Any 6th clarinet
band member is welcome to audition. The attached Audition Application must be turned in
during band class no later than Friday, December 6th.

As stated at our Informational Meetings/Instrumental Tryouts last spring, only a

limited number of musicians will be able to switch to saxophone. We will be switching
several students over to alto saxophone and tenor saxophone. Please do not rent or
purchase a saxophone until you receive a letter from the Medina Band Staff.

If chosen for alto sax, each student must either rent/purchase the instrument,
purchase the director approved reeds, and purchase the Essential Elements book 1 for alto
saxophone. If chosen for tenor sax, each student will be provided the instrument through
the school and will be responsible for any cost due to damage of the instrument, purchase
the director approved reeds, and purchase the Essential Elements book 1 for tenor
saxophone.

ALL STUDENTS SELECTED ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO TAKE PRIVATE

SAXOPHONE LESSONS!!!! Students not selected for saxophone, please know that there

Students, please answer the following questions:

1.) I would like to play the saxophone because...

The saxophone is a fun instrument to play, sounds beautiful, and I
am really excited to play it in band. My dad plays the saxophone
(blues/jazz) and is going to add country to the mix for me. I will
continue to be getting lessons from my aunt who is a working
musician and from my dad.
I am a great candidate for the saxophone because…
I have the enthusiasm and support from my musical family as well
as everything I am learning at Root.

2.) I practice my clarinet about 2 ½ hours per week + lessons & jam/improv time.

3.) I would like to be considered for (circle one): Alto Sax Tenor Sax Either

4.) I plan on being a Medina Band member through 12th grade.
