Music is the most powerful form of art

Plato once said, Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to
the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything. But what is the power behind
music? I believe there's some sort of divine power in music.
Music is there whenever we feel like the whole world is against us. It accompanies us when we
are at our highest or lowest. It sings a story a person went through and somehow, we feel the
same even though we didn’t go through it ourselves. It’s like we can relate to the song. We feel
nostalgic whenever we listen to a song that was often played during a significant life event. Like
from a big celebration, a concert or perhaps even from a breakup. It helps us feel and re live the
moment we wish to feel again. Perhaps music reinforces what we long to remember. It has the
power to express our innermost feelings in the most powerful manner; without having to speak
or show it. Strings of poetry integrated into a structure of sounds are perhaps one of the
greatest ways to say what you don’t want to say. Music is a language for our emotions. We play
a love song when we feel something for someone and play a sad song whenever that someone
rejects us. It has an ability to control our emotions. Our mood might shift if we hear that song,
we use to listen with someone we hold dearly. Music can change our gloomy mood to a much
brighter one by hearing songs that can lift our spirits. It has this kind of power to touch one's
heart and soul. Oftentimes we develop a connection or an admiration to an artist or a song.
Whenever we hear that one song from that artist we might feel like crying, dancing, bopping
with the beat and our heart starts racing. It's simply because we are overwhelmed by such a
power to move a soul and to undress the many layers of the human shield. It has also been said
that music can heal people in various situations. For example, music can make a big difference
to people with brain injuries: it can activate the brain in alternative ways, often bypassing the
damaged areas, allowing people to regain movement or speech. There really is truth to the
saying music soothes the soul, so much so that it is now recognized as a form of therapy.
Studies have shown that music therapy can improve heart and breathing rates. And in the field
of psychology, music has been used to help people suffering from depression and sadness. And
most importantly it has the power link people from all around the world regardless of what
language they speak. It breaks language barriers and we can be able to appreciate and relate to
the song even if it’s not the language we speak. You might feel connected or relate to a person
because they listen to a similar genre that we listen to or their music taste is the opposite to
ours.
And I want to conclude this speech by saying a quote for someone who I deeply admire and
expanded my whole playlist. Someone who broke language barriers, BTS’ RM. Music transcend
language, he said. And I wholly believe that. Music had been able to give someone hope, a new
beginning and sometimes, immense happiness. And for all those reasons, I believe music is the
most powerful form of art.
